SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER
Vision Statement
Incarnation Parish is a Roman Catholic community
centered around the Lord Jesus, a living sign of
hope to all that the Word made flesh dwells
among us. His presence and love is encountered
in all areas of our life together, especially in the
Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, in Sacred Scripture and
in the Sacraments. We seek to make the Lord's
presence and love known through service and education, through evangelization and through continual conversion and renewal in Him. We entrust
our life together and our sharing in the mission of
Christ to the protection and intercession of Mary,
Mother of the Lord and our Mother.

And the Word became flesh

-John 1: 14
This week we open our 90th Anniversary Festivities as Bishop Massa visits and celebrates our Parish Feast Day
with a special Mass on Monday at 7:30PM. Our Gala Dinner Dance follows on Saturday beginning at 7PM. The Mass
will be beautiful, I’m sure. And at $40. the Gala tickets are going to be a steal for those who can get their limited
number. It’s a great opportunity for us to celebrate ourselves here at Incarnation. And this will be Fr. Chris’ first here.
But why are we so special? Why should we celebrate ourselves? It comes from the very nature of the feast of
the Annunciation. People are special. We are the pinnacle of creation! Even when we lost our way we were judged
worthy of saving. We were not left on our own. “For God so loved the world that he sent his only Son, so that everyone
who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.” In the person of Jesus, the God of heaven reaches
down to embrace all humanity. In the Incarnation not only does God come to dwell among us but God becomes one of
us: Jesus is fully divine and fully human—a mystery exemplifying the unity of God and his people.
That is what God has done making us special. But what have we done? “We have seen God’s Glory.” We are
most Christian when we recognize the presence of Jesus in the past and in the present and act accordingly. When we
affirm in faith and action the wondrous events of Jesus to fulfill the Father’s plan and accomplish our salvation, we are
able to glimpse into the Mystery of Divine Love. But the Incarnation demands that we also recognize Jesus in the
people around us. People at times we don’t like; we don't understand; we don’t trust. That is the calling for us who
“have seen his glory.”
The events of the past two weeks remind all Christendom of the unimaginable depth of God’s Love as we look
to Jerusalem: to the Cenacle, Cross and Empty Tomb. But before Jerusalem, there was Nazareth and Bethlehem. The
Incarnation allowed Jesus to come to us; to be one of us; to gather us and to save us. It is a salvation that is realized
collectively.
I hope and pray you wont celebrate these grace filled days in isolation. Come to
Mass on the 4th and to our Parish Gala on the 9th. For we have seen his glory!

LIVING LIGHTS. Securing an Annual Living Light
Votive Candle to Honor a Loved One, Remember
a Special Intention, or Mark a Milestone is a continual and wonderful way to celebrate sentiments
and offer intercessions of remembrance, hope and
gratitude. Two wall mounted electric candle
stands now hang in our church on either side of the newly
restored and expanded Saints’ Shrine. These unique and
inviting candles are made of real wax with electrified illumination to insure your Living Light burns brightly
throughout the year. A plaque displaying the name of
your loved one, your intention, or your milestone will be
mounted before your Living Light Votive Candle.
Plaques will remain for the year you have secured your
Living Light and may be renewed or rededicated for additional 12 month periods. In addition to its rightful place
before your Living Light in the Saints’ Shrine, your Loved
One, Special Intention, or Milestone will also be included
in the Living Light Section of the Parish Website. See the
blue brochure by the church doors or contact the rectory
for more info: 718-465-8534.
Feast of Faith Series: Themes of Catholic Social Teaching . . . Do unto Others as You
would have them do to You ~ We invite everyone who would like to explore our Catholic Faith more
deeply to come and reflect on the beliefs of Catholic Social Teaching throughout this coming year. Catholic Social Teaching is rooted in the Life and Message of Jesus
Christ and applied to present day circumstances. The next
of the five sessions on -“The dignity of Work and the
Rights of Workers: Lord, Give Success to the Work of
Our Hands” takes place Tuesday, April 19 at 7:30PM.
Save the date for the final session on Tuesday, May 24.
The Shepherd Speaks
By his death and resurrection, Jesus
shows everyone the way to life and happiness:
this way is humility, which involves humiliation. This is
the path which leads to glory. Only those who humble
themselves can go towards the “things that are above”,
towards God (cf. Col 3:1-4). The proud look
“down from above”; the humble look “up from
below”.
