I began life in Tampa and still live in Hillsborough County. It’s not that I don’t enjoy being elsewhere ‐ I just haven’t found any place that I like any better. And believe me, I’ve tried looking. Clue #1: My first credit purchase was a set of luggage! I’ve still got the blue Maas Brothers credit card that I used! My first paid employment was at the Kress dime store downtown, earning a whopping 50 cents an hour. It was part‐time and temporary, working during one Christmas season, storing and retrieving layaways (the District Manager for Kress was a family friend). My next part‐time, temp job was at Maas Brothers in the credit department (co‐worker was a good family friend). Does anyone else remember when the sales person had to call the credit department to get approval for each credit sale? After graduation from Hillsborough (feel free to guess the year) I was given a deadline by my parents for the following September: Go to work, or go to Business School (President of the school was a family friend). I attended Business School at the University of Tampa to learn speedwriting, typing, bookkeeping, and other “business” classes, all to the tune of $535 ‐ which I had to pay back when I got a full‐time job. For almost 15 years, I worked in an insurance company Bond Department (I’m still close friends with my boss’s widow). I then passed the Civil Service test, and worked the next 28 years as a Federal employee. I began with the Probation Office, transferred to the U.S. Attorney, then to Strike Force, and finally retired from the U.S. District Court Clerk’s office in December, 1999. I began the 21st century the right way ‐ retired! Although I had no children of my own, I was the only 30‐
something woman that had about 20 “kids” during the late ‘60's ‐‐ a church youth group that called me “mom.” Some still do. Together, we accomplished several “They can’t do that!” events and enjoyed many just‐plain‐fun events, all recorded on many yards of 8mm film which are now converted to six DVD’s. All are fond memories ‐ even when I watched and filmed a canoe overturning in the Hillsborough River, with my wallet on board. Wanna see that one? “And the years with those kids,

This 5 hour class begins at 10 AM, so bring your own lunch (coffee & beverages provided).  This low‐stress class is designed to provide seniors with a basic understanding of how to safely handle, function and shoot a handgun with comfort and confidence. We will participate in "dry" drills where we will learn to safely handle and function our handgun before firing any shots. We will then be put through a series of live‐fire drills where we practice topics covered in the classroom.  Bring your own handgun and ammo at no charge, or use handgun from Shooters World at no charge, but ammo must be purchased from them @ $18 for 50 rounds. We will follow elevated boardwalks to the observation tower and its amazing view of the preserve, St. Pete and the Tampa Bay.
