Wildcats qualify
for state
By Ira Taylor
The Hector Wildcat baseball
team will be playing in the state
tournament this week at Parkers
Chapel after finishing fourth in the 2A 4 Regional tournament
last week at Magazine. The
Wildcats won their first game
but then lost in the semifinals
in extra innings and then lost
another tough game in the consolation game on Saturday.
The tournament started
well for the Wildcats as they
defeated Mountainburg 15-4
in the opening round game. Mountainburg’s Dragons scored
three runs in the second inning
off sophomore starter Camren
Haralson who had some control
problems, and then added just
one other run in the top of the
fifth. Meanwhile the Wildcats
exploded for eight runs in the
bottom of the third, five more in
the bottom of the fifth and ended
the game with two more runs in
the bottom of the sixth with the
10-run rule.
Tanner Gaines picked up the
win in relief of Haralson and
helped his own cause with a 2-4
performance at the plate and
scored three runs. Haralson was
2-3 at the plate with three RBIs
and Rustin Hays and Parker Lee
were both 2-4 batting with four
RBIs each. The Wildcats banged
out 12 hits while the Wildcat
pitchers held Mountainburg to
only two for the game.
In the second round game
against host Magazine, runs
didn’t come so easy for either
team as the Rattlers were able to
score a run in the bottom of the
ninth inning to take a 5-4 decision over the Wildcats. Hector
