My dear family of St. Andrew the Apostle and dear friends of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic School,
To ensure a smooth leadership transition, the Diocese of Joliet Catholic Schools Office and I are
working closely with the St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic School Principal Search Committee to find an
excellent candidate who will serve as the next distinguished leader of our school and to honor the many
contributions that Mrs. Lifka has made to our faith community over the past four years. The dual purpose
of this letter is to outline principal search procedures and to request that you offer valuable input to this
search process by prayerfully responding to a brief online survey.
The search process formally began on Tuesday, February 23, 2016. At this initial meeting, Karen
Udell, Catholic Schools Office Assistant Superintendent of Leadership and Personnel, and I reviewed the
Diocese of Joliet Principal Search Process Guidelines and developed a timeline for the discernment of the
new principal of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic School.
One critical aspect of the principal search involves eliciting the ideas of faculty and staff members,
parents, and parishioners regarding leadership qualities that are necessary to meet the present and future
needs of our parish school. To accomplish this task, the Catholic Schools Office has designed an online
community survey instrument. The results of this survey will be carefully studied by the Search Committee
and will be used both to create a Principal Profile and to design first and second-round interview protocols.
As a member of the St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Community, you are an important component
of our school and parish family. I encourage you to share your thoughts with us regarding desired principal
attributes by responding to this survey that may be directly accessed in both English and Spanish by clicking
on the links below. You will be notified as soon as a Polish version of the survey is available.
English survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HX786FN
Spanish survey: http://es.surveymonkey.com/r/HJT33D2
Completing this instrument will require ten - twelve minutes of your time and the survey will be posted from
Saturday, February 27 through midnight on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016. Thank you in advance for
your assistance in discerning the next spiritual and instructional leader of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic
School!
In the loving Hearts of Jesus and Mary,
Fr. Gregor

Our helpline 815-886-4165 ext. 304
All calls are confidential with callbacks within 24 hours.
The parable of the fig tree describes the fate of those who do not repent. Even though God gives us everything
we need for our journey toward salvation, we ourselves need to “cultivate and fertilize” our spiritual lives.
Repentance is “cultivating” the soil so we can bear fruit. The discipline of Lent calls us to follow in the
footsteps of Jesus.
If you or someone you know is in need of temporary assistance please call our helpline.
Our yellow donation envelops are in the back of the church and at the hall exists.

I AM. You are. We are. Our ancestors
“I AM”
Kindness and mercy are what the enslaved people of
Israel needed, and they came in the form of deliverance.
They came through a leader, Moses, who was once
plucked from the Nile River and was now herding his
father-in-law’s sheep in the land of Goshen. The bush
that burned but was not consumed shows us that God is
inexhaustible mystery.
Moses’ awe and deference are mixed with a touching
conversational tone as he seeks to learn God’s name. And
God sweetly responds. The somewhat abstract “I AM”
distinguishes the God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob
from the minor gods in the territory who “are not.” They
are helpless, powerless, and useless. Moses is to step out
into an amazing future, and God will be there with outstretched arm. Just go and see, God seems to say.

in faith, the good people of Israel, have a
name for God that is never spoken. They
see YHWH and say instead “The LORD”.
That same LORD met Moses – in the desert, no less – looking like fire flaming out
of a bush that was not consumed and
introduced himself as “I AM”. What a
name! The name for an unburned bush. The name of
the One who witnesses affliction. The name for the God
who hears, who knows, and who saves.
Saves them. Saves me. Saves us.
Let us spend some focused time with I AM this
Holy Year in this cherished Lent.
Let us look for those in need; let us say, “You are known

Let us admit that we are loved as well by I AM.

This is a reminder that all scholarship requests/applications are due by March 1, 2016.
Anyone requesting financial assistance from the Catholic Education Foundation or from one of three St. Andrew
Scholarships must fill out the application through the FACTS Grant and Aid Company.
Three of the scholarships require additional paperwork that needs to be filled out by the student and their family. The
paperwork is available online at the respective websites or at the school office
The Kathleen Malchow Scholarship (grades K-8), http://andrewcc.org/documents/2016/1/MALCHOW%
20SCHOLARSHIP-2016-17.pdf_edit.pdf
The Bartel Scholarship (grades 1-8), http://andrewcc.org/documents/2016/1/BARTEL-2016-17.pdf_edit-1.pdf
The Sister Dee Scholarship (grades 5-8)
http://andrewcc.org/documents/2016/1/SISTER%20DEE%20SCHOLARSHIP-2015-16.pdf_EDIT.pdf
Every Catholic School in the Diocese is now using FACTS for their scholarships and grants. If your family has
students in a Catholic high school and St. Andrews, you will only need to complete one application on FACTS Grant
and Aid. Remember, NEVER assume you make too much. Additionally, you can let the principal know about any
special circumstances so that she may advocate for your family with CEF. You may also have concerns about your
financial information and its privacy. The only people who see a family's income are those at CEF who determine
scholarship awards. St. Andrew is then given a list of all the families that applied and who qualified for assistance
so that we can apply the scholarship or grant money to your tuition.
Remember that CEF and the three St. Andrew scholarships have a deadline of March 1, 2016. The additional
paperwork for the three St. Andrew scholarships must be turned in by March 1, 2016.
No application will be considered after that date.

adults who have not been baptized, and seek deeper insight
into the Christian faith.
BAPTISM OF CHILDREN
We joyfully celebrate the baptism of children of Christian
households which are joined to our weekly worship, and
have active registration in our parish community for at least
3 months. After registration in the parish, please attend an
Evening of Awareness, if you have not attended a class in
the past two years, to register for Baptism and select a date.
Classes are presented on the first Wednesday of each month
at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Baptism is celebrated on the
third Sunday of the month at 1:30 p.m.
EUCHARIST AND CONFIRMATION
Formation for those coming first to the table of the Lord
as children is infused into the efforts of our school and Faith
Formation Office. Confirmation formation is a two year
process completed in eighth grade. Please call the Faith
Formation Office for more information.
