On-line entry is available at www.showsecretary.com . You may still mail your paper entry and check to Susan
Peacock. Make checks payable to Houston Dressage Society and send with entry to Show Secretary: Susan
Peacock, 837 Glenlake Dr., Edmond, OK 73013. No post-dated checks accepted. Include copies of
owner/rider/trainer/coach current USEF card(s) or non-member fee and USDF card(s) or non-member fee.
Include copy of horse’s Registration/Recording card or certificate. A copy of a Coggins taken within 12 months
of the show dates must accompany each entry.
Entries are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, based on postmark date and entries may be limited.
Those entries postmarked after closing will be accepted at the discretion of the show secretary, based on a
space available basis and charged a $50 late fee per show. If the classes are oversubscribed, a Waiting List (in
the order of receipt) will be maintained. Management reserves the right to refuse any entry.

To enter a class as a Great American/USDF Qualifier, put a “Q” after the appropriate class number on the
entry form and include the qualifying fee of $10 and/or if you intend on entering the Southwest Dressage
Championships Qualifier and include the qualifying fee of $8.
Great American/USDF Qualifying Classes: For the Great American/USDF Qualifying rides, riders and owners
must have an active USEF Membership. Riders are required to have a USDF Participating Membership; Owners
may have a USDF Participating or Business Membership. Horses must be Annual or Lifetime Recorded with
USEF and USDF Lifetime Registered, an HID is not sufficient. Great American qualifying entries must include
horse USEF and USDF registration and rider’s and owner’s USEF and USDF card(s).
Official Ride Times: Stabling assignments and provisional times will be available to competitors at
www.showsecretary.com. Official times will be available at noon the day before the show.
All Change requests must be made by 11:00 AM the day prior to the class.
Refund Policy: Cancellations prior to closing date will be refunded, less office fee. If the owner is owed a
refund of $25 or less, the refund can be donated to the HDS Education Fund by checking the line at the
bottom of the entry form. No refunds will be given after closing date.
Hazardous Weather/Act OF God/Accident Policy: Management reserves the right to cancel any classes due
to hazardous weather, Acts of God, accident, or emergency. Every effort will be made to reschedule with priority
given to any qualifying classes being offered. No refunds for cancellations due to hazardous weather, Acts of God,
accidents or emergencies.
Schedule : Classes may not necessarily be run in the order listed in the class lists. It is the responsibility of the
rider to inform the show secretary of any time conflicts as soon as possible after receiving the schedule.
Management reserves the right to change officials, limit entries, combine or cancel classes, and modify the
schedule, and to modify or cancel awards and/or make whatever changes are required by circumstances to the
competition specifications listed herein. Show Management reserves the right to cancel classes insufficiently
filled and to refuse or require withdrawal of an entry for cause deemed sufficient by Show Management.
Non-compete horses are allowed on grounds, if space is available. Owner must fill out entry form and pay office
and stall fees, but no USEF drug fee.
All horses must wear show numbers at all times when out of stall.

Scores: It is the responsibility of the competitor to verify the accuracy of all scores. Scoring errors
must be reported to the Show Secretary within one hour of the official posting of the scores from the
last class of the show day during which the score was earned.
Freestyles/Music: The minimum score required to enter a freestyle class at any level for a horse/rider
combination is 60 percent. Competitors must submit a copy of a test at the highest level showing that the required
60 percent was met in order to enter the Freestyle at that level. Music for all freestyles on CD must be given to the
show office upon arrival to show grounds and check in to show office. Sound checks will be conducted during the
Saturday lunch break before or after dragging and after the last class Saturday. The times for sound checks will be
posted in the show office. Competitors are responsible for picking up their music before the end of the show.
Music left will not be mailed.
Opportunity Classes: Opportunity classes are intended for entry level riders. Horses and riders entered only in
“Opportunity” classes are exempt from USEF and USDF membership requirements, and do not have to pay nonmember (show pass) or HID fees. Riders and/or horses entered in “Opportunity” classes may not cross enter into
other recognized classes at the show. Participants must abide by all USEF regulations pertaining to attire, tack
and equipment for the recognized show. Reference GR821 for additional information.
Opportunity Classes at HDS 2015 Recognized Shows will count towards 2015 HDS Schooling Show
Championship qualifying and HDS year-end Schooling Show Awards.
Pony Measurements: Show Management will notify Veterinarian and Technical Delegate of competitors
requiring Pony measurements. Ponies will be measured on FRIDAY between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. Additional
measurement times, if required, will be posted in the show office on Friday at 5:00 pm. All ponies competing in
pony classes that do not have a valid pony card must be measured prior to the first class shown. Measurement
requests must be received prior to the start of competition.
Stabling: Stalls are permanent, 10 x 10’ with solid walls and doors. Two bags of shavings are provided with each
stall. Additional bags may be purchased – must use facility shavings per contract – no outside shavings permitted.
Stall charts will be posted and check-in will start at 1:00 PM on Friday, August 28, 2015. Early arrivals and late
departures are only available by arrangement with Show Secretary at $45/night/stall. Cost applies to horse stalls
or tack stalls. Stalls must be vacated by 9:00 pm Sunday or the late departure fee paid.
There is a $50 penalty for switching horse stalls without notifying the Show Office in advance.
GSWEC will charge a $100 fine for anyone bringing in shavings from outside the facility.
No staples or nails are allowed to be affixed to any Great Southwest Equestrian Center Property with the
exception of stall cards. Individuals wishing to tape advertisements or flyers to the walls must first
obtain approval in writing from Great Southwest Equestrian Center. Such approval must be shown to
Show Management prior to display or the flyers will be removed.
THERE WILL BE NO SMOKING IN THE BARNS AND NEAR THE INDOOR WARM-UP ARENA.
DESIGNATED SMOKING AREAS WILL BE PROVIDED.
Arenas/Footing/Warm-Up: All tests and warm-up will be ridden in covered arenas with sand/clay footing
mix. Competition arenas include up to three indoor arenas. The main indoor facility will have two dressage
arenas and the east arena will have one arena which complies with a Dressage Level 2 show. Each arena is 20 x
60 meters, with the exception of Para Equestrian classes which may be ridden in a small arena, 20 x 40 meters.
Schedule for schooling will be posted at the show grounds. Lunging will be permitted in Barn D warm-up only.
Arenas close at 9:00 pm.
Veterinarian: The veterinarian, Katy Equine (281) 391-8250, will be on call each show day. Phone numbers
and information will be posted at the show grounds and in the show secretary’s office.
Farrier: The farrier, Chris Guillory (713) 498-2428, will be on call each show day. Phone numbers and
information will be posted at the show grounds and in the show secretary’s office.

Breed Show Directives and Information
Membership/Nonmember/Proof of Membership fees: All participants (handler, owner, trainer, agent, lessee, or
coach) must present to the competition secretary a current USEF membership card or copy thereof. In the event
the participant does not have his/her card or copy, he/she must pay a $30 USEF show pass fee per show.
No USDF membership is required for the handler. Owners are not required to be a USDF member for qualifying
events but do need to pay the USDF nonmember fee; however, owner must have a current USDF Participating
Membership (PM) or Business Membership (BM) for their horse to compete in the series final class. Those who
cannot provide proof of their USDF membership may fill out an affidavit form and must pay the $5 fee. The affidavit
may also be used to verify horse registration and/or horse ownership. The USDF nonmember fee is $25 plus the
$5 affidavit fee if a copy of the USDF member card can’t be provided. The Nonmember form/Affidavit form may be
found on www.USDF.org. All horses entered in any USDFBC series qualifying class must have either a USDF
Lifetime Horse Registration (LHR) or USDF Horse Identification Number (HID) and submit identification
information.
Coggins: A clearly legible copy of negative Coggins dated within 12 months of last day of show date. 2015 foals
MUST have a separate entry for Dam with the Dam’s Coggins.
Times: Provisional times will be available to competitors at www.showsecretary.com. Official times will be
available at noon the day before the show. Please double check your times upon check in. Start times for breed
classes are a “guesstimate” and for reference only. Listen for announcements of actual times. Breed classes may be
up to 60 minutes ahead or behind posted times.

Bridle/Halter numbers must be worn at all times on the show grounds. This includes non-competing horses.
IN-HAND TRIANGLE PROCEDURE
In-hand classes will perform individually on the triangle measuring approximately 30 meters on each
side, and 15 meters from B-C, or sized, if judge specifies, as described in USEF DR209.
When called by the Ringmaster, follow the procedure as diagramed:
Stand horse at A for conformation judging
Walk small triangle: A - B - C - A
Trot large triangle A - D - E - A
7 judging area promptly unless requested
Leave
otherwise by judges.
Definitions
Handler: Any person who holds, walks, or trots a horse while it is being judge in the competition arena for any InHand, Group, or Championship class. Handlers may have one Assistant Handler, if necessary. The Handler,
Assistant Handler, and/or a whip assistant may each carry only one whip or one standard lungeing whip (without
attachments, i.e. plastic bags, etc.) In addition, disruptive noisemaking devices are not permitted in the
competition ring or warm-up areas. Prior to entering the competition arena, all Handlers and Assistant Handlers
must have on file in the show secretary’s office a Handler/Assistant Release Form and be wearing an appropriate
wrist band. Handlers must be USEF members or pay the show pass fee.
Assistant Handler: Any person, other than the Handler, who holds or walks a horse in the competition arena
during a class, whether or not it is being judged. An Assistant Handler is permitted only for call-backs after InHand or Group classes, for Championships, and for handling non-competition mares and foals that accompany
another entry in the competition arena. Assistant Handlers may not show a horse at the trot, (except for horses not
being judged but accompanying a mare or foal this is being judged.) Only Handlers and Assistant Handlers may act
as Whip Assistants. Assistant Handlers are not required to be USEF members or pay the show pass fee but are
subject to all other rules regarding Handlers.
Class Procedure




All competitors are responsible for understanding and complying with the current USEF Dressage/Sport
Horse Breeding rules (Sub-Chapter DR-2.)
Any horse entering the arena, whether being judged or not, must be controlled by a separate handler or
assistant handler. NO HORSE, INCLUDING FOALS, MAY BE SHOWN LOOSE. ONE HORSE, ONE HANDLER
AT ALL TIMES.
In classes with 20 or more entries, the horses with the top scores may be recalled as a group for reevaluation.
Championship Class Procedure-Horses will be shown at the walk as a group and individually at the trot.

Breed Show Awards
For each non-championship (regular) class, trophies will be presented for first place and ribbons will be
presented for first through sixth place. When classes are posted, you may pick up your ribbons.
Management reserves the right to make any changes required by circumstances.
For the Current Year Foal Championship, Filly Championship, Colts/Geldings Championship, Mare
Championship and Stallion Championship classes, the Champion and Reserve Champion will each receive an
HDS neck sash.
For the Young Horse Championship, Mature Horse Championship and Grand Championship classes, a trophy
will be presented to the Champion, neck sashes will be presented to both the Champion and Reserve Champion.
Great American/USDFBC Qualifier Classes: Champion and reserve are eligible for Great
American/USDF Breeders Championship Southern Series Final. USDFBC Southern Series Qualifier
ribbons will be awarded to the Champion and Reserve of each Qualifier class.
Born in the USA ribbons will be awarded to the top scoring horse conceived and foaled in the USA in each of the
following championship classes: Current Year Foal Championship, Filly Championship, Colts/Geldings
Championship, Mare Championship and Stallion Championship. Horses imported in utero are not eligible. Scores
must fall within the top 50% of the class.
HDS Laborious Day Dressage Shows I & II Awards
 Trophies will be presented for first place and ribbons will be presented for first through sixth place.
Qualifying classes will not be pinned separately.
 Champion High Point ribbon and trophy and a Reserve High Point Champion ribbon will be given
at each show in three divisions: Open, Amateur, and Junior at the National Levels combined (Training
Level through Fourth Level) and at the FEI Levels combined (Prix St. Georges, I-I, I-II, IA, IB and Grand
Prix) each day. Rider Tests, Freestyles, Opportunity Classes, Pas De Deux, Quadrille, Introductory
Level, Young Horse (4-6 yr old) and Equitation classes are not eligible. Riders must collect their
awards at the show. Awards will not be mailed afterwards.
 USDF Dover Adult Amateur medal class is 2nd Level Test 3 on both days. See additional Dover

National Dressage Pony Cup Awards
National Dressage Pony Cup (NDPC) showcases the exceptional talent, training, and commitment of ponies, their
owners, breeders, trainers, and riders in the art and sport of dressage. NDPC encourages competition at every level,
for riders of any ability or age, and ponies of any breed or mix of breeds to compete and enjoy their experience.
NDPC partners with USDF recognized shows around the country to offer our Partner Show Program. These shows
will offer at least one ‘pony only’ class, but possibly more, and an opportunity to receive a USEF Pony Measurement
card. All ponies must have their USEF Measurement Card in order to compete. You do not need to be an NDPC
member to participate in a Partner Show. All scores in “pony only” classes will automatically be entered in the NDPC
Year-End Awards Program, where you will be competing with ponies across the country. Learn more at

NDPC Show Awards: NDPC Ribbons will be given for first through sixth place in the HDS Laborious Day Show I
pony class with the most riders. The pony and rider with the highest single score at each show (each day) will
also receive an NDPC high point ribbon. In addition, an HDS first place trophy and 1st to 6th place ribbons will be
awarded in every pony class.
After the show, NDPC will mail an overall champion ribbon and certificate to one pony winner each day. The
overall champion is computed using the NDPC Degree of Difficulty Chart as outlined below.
NDPC Houston Pony Series Awards: Riders must participate in at least two out of the four Houston NDPC
Series shows to be eligible for NDPC Houston Pony Series Awards. Only scores from “pony” classes at each show
will be counted. Shows included in the 2015 series are Windy Knoll Summer 1 & 2 on July 25 & 26, 2015 and
Houston Dressage Society’s Laborious Shows I & II on August 29 & 30, 2015. All USEF rules apply.
The Houston Pony Series awards will be broken down into the following divisions: Open, AA, JR/YR. Champion
and Reserve Champion will be awarded in each division. The scores will be tallied using the Degree of Difficulty
Chart based on the level and test performed. The scores will then be averaged to calculate the winners. Awards
for NDPC Houston Pony Series will be mailed concluding the final show.
NDPC Year-End Awards: All pony tests ridden will automatically be entered in NDPC Year-End Awards.

EVERY CLASS OFFERED HEREIN WHICH IS COVERED BY THE RULES AND
SPECIFICATIONS OF THE CURRENT USEF RULE BOOK WILL BE CONDUCTED AND
JUDGED IN ACCORDANCE THEREWITH.
Helmet Policy: DR120.6 From the time horses are officially admitted to the competition grounds by competition
management, anyone mounted on a horse at any time on the competition grounds, including non-competing riders,
riders on non-competing horses, mounted participants in exhibition classes and those competing in all classes and
tests, iincluding Para-Equestrian tests, must wear protective headgear as defined by this rule and otherwise in
compliance with GR801. The harness must be secured and properly fitted.
Sharps Containers: Competition management shall place a minimum of one sharps container per each
competition, whether or not stabling is provided. Additionally, at least one sharps container per fifty occupied
stalls for the disposal of needles and other disposable sharp instruments in convenient locations in barns
housing competition horses. It is competition management’s responsibility to replace such containers when full
and dispose of them properly. Competition management may fine any individuals including trainers,
owners, exhibitors, or their agents up to $100 for improper disposal of needles or other sharp disposable
instruments. If local law has different requirements, local law will prevail.
2015 Motorized Vehicle Statement GR1301.7:
Minors who do not have a valid driver's license which allows them to operate a motorized vehicle in the state in
which they reside will not be permitted to operate a motorized vehicle of any kind, including, but not limited to,
golf carts, motorcycles, scooters, or farm utility vehicles, on the competition grounds of licensed competitions.
Minors who have a valid temporary license may operate the above described motorized vehicles as long as they are
accompanied by an adult with a valid driver's license. The parent(s), legal guardian(s), or individual who signs the
entry blank as a parent or guardian of a minor operating a motorized vehicle in violation of this rule are solely
responsible for any damages, claims, losses or actions resulting from that operation. Violations of this rule will be
cause for sanctions against the parent(s), guardian(s) and/or trainer(s) who are responsible for the child
committing the offense. Penalties may include exclusion of the child, parent(s), guardian(s), and/or trainer(s) from
the competition grounds for the remainder of the competition and charges being filed against any of the above
individuals in accordance with Chapter 6. Wheelchairs and other mobility assistance devices for individuals with
disabilities are exempt from this rule.
2015 USEF MEMBERSHIP STATEMENT GR901.9
Life, senior active and junior active members shall be eligible to participate in all classes at Regular
Competitions, Eventing Competitions at the Preliminary Level or above and Combined Driving
Competitions at the Advanced Level, Dressage, Reining and Vaulting Competitions and Endurance Rides. A
nonmember may participate as a handler, rider, driver, owner, lessee, agent, coach or trainer at Regular
Competitions, Eventing Competitions, Dressage Competitions, Reining Competitions and Combined Driving
Competitions upon payment of a $30 Show Pass registration fee. Participants in the following classes are
exempted from the Requirements of this rule: 1) leadline; 2) exhibitions; 3) games and races; 4) classes for
4‐H members; 5) walk trot and academy classes (academy classes are classes limited to horses used
regularly in a lesson program); 6) USDF introductory level tests, pas de deux and quadrille classes; 7)
NRHA Endorsed Reining Competitions. 8) Opportunity classes, 9) citizens of other nations who have proof,
in English, of current membership in good standing of their own National Federation, 10) USEA beginner
novice division; and 11) assistant handlers in Dressage Sport Horse Breeding classes.
ATTENTION COMPETITORS
Each competitor is responsible for supplying management with correct association numbers (USDF, United
States Equestrian Federation) for horse, owner, rider and trainer, before the day(s) of the competition.
The scores of competitors who fail to supply correct numbers may not be counted toward national
awards.

All questions not covered in these rules and regulations shall be decided by the show management whose decision
shall be final.
Every horse entered for competition will comply with the rules of the horse show management, but management
will, in no case, be responsible for any loss or damage that may occur, and it shall be condition of entry that each
exhibitor shall hold this horse show and the officials and employees of the show blameless for any loss or accident
to his horse, employees, equipment, which may occur from sickness, fire or otherwise.
The management reserves the right to refuse, accept conditionally, or to cancel any entries, disqualify any riders or
exhibitors, prohibit entries and cancel award prizes without claims for damages; to cancel or combine unfilled
classes, or to reschedule classes after due notice to exhibitors; to change rings or rotate judges.
Exhibitors are notified that any act of discourtesy or disobedience to the judges or officials, on the part of the owner,
manager, rider, or groom shall disqualify the horse, and the owner shall forfeit his entry fee and other fees.
Show management reserves to itself the power to prohibit any person from attending or showing a horse in the ring
and to remove any groom or horse from the show without being liable for compensation.
No person will be allowed in the show ring during the time of judging except the exhibitor and those having official
or requested duties to perform.
It is the tradition of the show that riders be correctly attired for the class in question, that attendants be neatly
dressed and the horses properly presented. Management may in its discretion bar any person from entering the
ring if not suitable presented to appear before an audience.
