Ahhhh, I thought, I’ll cover the great warranty that Nikon offers. A full 2 years for all Nikon
bodies and 5 years for all Nikon Lenses. Nope I’ll save that point for another day.

Well I have to speak to the unsurpassed image quality. Of the color and depth that all Nikon
cameras are known for. But I’m running out of room.
W
hen I was asked to write this article about what I loved about
Nikon I thought I would just list in point form all the reasons I enjoy
using Nikon products. Easy enough, right? I’ve used Nikon for many
years and feel strongly that they make the best camera system for
me. But I think I’ll save that point for another time.
I suppose all I really have time to say is that Nikon builds a great product and has a great

I thought I’d tell you about the great line-up of products Nikon has to offer. Everything for the
beginner to the seasoned Pro. Cameras big and small, binoculars, Spotting scopes and more.
But I decided against that tact.
Well, I could go over the all the great lenses that Nikon has to offer. Classic lenses from the early
days to the more recent offerings. Stabilized lenses and some with the new Nano Crystal coatings
to reduce reflection and glare. So little space, I’ll have to talk about this another time.
I know, let’s go over the great ergonomics, the intuitive layout and amazing feel of the camera
in your hand. But not enough time or space to cover that point.
I thought for sure I’d mention the excellent Nikon flashes and the Creative Lighting System that
allows us to get the flash off the camera and control them wirelessly. Another time perhaps.
I have to cover the new Nikon 1 mirrorless system. Feature rich, small and easy to use without sacrificing control or image quality. If only we had time to mention it.

Why use a flash?
A speedlite or flash is to ensure you have consistent lighting when taking pictures close up (like portraits or
macro photography) or in dim lit lighting. Sometimes by using a flash you can ensure that inconsistencies of
the lighting can be removed, making your lighting much more uniform, usually giving a much better result.
When shooting under tungsten or fluorescent lighting, using a flash ensures that you don’t see the “green”
or “yellow” tones in your photo. Next time when taking a picture of the family and some of the faces are dark
(because of shading or shadows) try using your flash, you may be pleasantly surprised!!!
If you are finding the flash is too strong, meaning you are whiting out your subject, there are a few things you
can do to lower the intensity or the power of the flash. Most flashes will have a setting which will allow you
to control the intensity of the flash, this is a setting usually directly on the flash. Another option is to angle or
bounce the flash, as this also reduces the intensity of a direct flash. Lastly you can attach light modifiers to the
flash which diffuse the light giving a softer effect.
For macro photography (as well as in Dentistry) you may want to use a special speedlight system designed
to attach to the end of the macro lens. These systems for macro photography are often called “Close-up
Speedlight” or a “Macro Ring Flash”. Its most important characteristic is providing even illumination with few
shadows visible in the photograph, as the origin of the light is very close to (and surrounds) the lens.
