HMC Consulting Group
The global automotive market shows increasing complexity, former local markets turn into
nationwide or paneuropean competitive situations. Informations are not protectable any longer,
transparency is global and given in a matter of seconds. Decision processes of customers are
rapidly changing in the “digital age” of the worldwide web.
Beside the mature markets of West Europe, North America, Japan and South Korea, where the
volatility is predictable quite precisely, manufacturers are facing different problems and needs in
the „BRIC” Markets. Apparently several evolutionary steps of the mature markets are skipped in
these emerging markets.
Furthermore, in many markets ownership of a car gets less important. In fact, vehicles become
increasingly part of a „multimodal mobility chain“, a trend which will become even stronger in
times of a proceeding urbanization.
In this environment, especially the Automotive „Downstream“ is changing faster than ever before.
Only manufacturers that are able to follow the pace of the market will be amongst the winners.

Who we are – our Consulting Philosophy
Founded in March 2004, „HMC Automotive Strategy & Marketing Consulting GmbH`s“ USP
is the specific know how of our partners in the area of Sales, Marketing, Aftersales and
Financial Services in the Automotive Downstream.
A main reason for setting up projects with external consultancy is their assumed capability
of „thinking out of the box“. We share this assumption, but for us, a mandatory condition
is the in-depth knowledge of „in the box“, which - from our perspective - is only given by
long time management experience and responsibility in the industry.
Following that principle, all our consultants (only senior partners) have - beside their
methodological competence - a respective career in the Automotive Downstream.
Our standard generally is „to be on a par“ with our clients working out and implementing
solutions for all kind of Automotive Downstream questions.
Our Senior Partners and collegues from the network have gained their Management- and
Top-Management experience at Daimler, Ford, General Motors, Hyundai/Kia, PSA, VW,
Deutsche Bank and Société Générale. In the course of their career, each of them was
responsible for a number of restructuring- and integration-projects.
The in-depth knowledge gained from personal responsibility as the major differentiator
versus „Classic Consultants” guarantees, that beside a „theoretical ideal solution“, we will
define solutions based on the personal experience of our team. This will enable our clients
to realize „Quick Wins“ and generally assures appropriate implementation time frames.
Our work does not end with the final project report and we would appreciate to support
the implementation phase as external Project Manager or Interim Manager.

Actually we are 5 Senior Partners having in total more than one century business experience in the
Automotive Downstream. A number of the Top Ten Global Players have been our employers. This
guarantees, that all our Collegues and our Network Partners can discuss „on a par“ with the
Client`s Management and Top-Management.
Efficient and succesful Consulting means „to walk the Realistic Way“ together
with our Clients after evaluation of all possible Alternatives!
Thomas Bade
Founder of the HMC Consulting Group in 2004, today he can look back to more than 20 years in
Automotive Sales, Marketing, Aftersales and Financial Services plus more than 6 years in
Consulting. After an Apprenticeship in Banking and Studies in Economics and Business
Administration, he worked in different Management and Top Management positions for 3 of the
actual Top 5 Global Car Makers and for 2 Top European Banks. He has deep experience in
intercultural work and is one of the very few people in Europe combining Top Management
Experience in Automotive Sales, Marketing and Financial Services. (Details)
Torsten Kühl
Managing Partner at „HMC Automotive Strategie & Marketingberatung GmbH“, has more than 20
years Experience in Automotive Dealer Business and Financial Services. After an apprenticeship in
Automotive Sales & Administration and Studies in Business Administration, he spent 20 years at 3
well known Leasing Companies. During that time, he had responsibility for all business areas of
Full-Service Leasing. He was Head of several Re-Engineering and Integration Projects with specific

Andreas Prillmann
Spent more than 25 years of his career for Top Players in Consumer Goods and Automotive
Industry with focus on Marketing, Sales and Aftersales. Since 1997, he held several TopManagement Positions in the Luxury Car Industry.
Based on Studies in Economics and Social Sciences, Andreas Prillmann has special expertise in reengineering, strategic Brand, Market and Dealer Network Development. (Details)

Peter Sommer
Peter Sommer has more than 30 years experience in the Automotive Downstream sector.
Based on Studies in Business Administration, he was in charge of several responsible positions in
all Marketing and Sales Areas of Headquarters and NSC`s, since 2000 on Top Management Level.
He has special expertise in Dealer Marketing, Product Launch Strategies, Dealer Network
Development, Sales Operations and Field Force Management, Optimization of business processes

Göran Tamm
After Studies in Business Administration, Göran Tamm gained more than 25 years in-depth
Marketing and Management Expertise. He started his Career in FMCG and worked more than 15
years for Top Players in the Passenger Car and Truck Business, where he made major contributions
to profilize Premium and Volume Brands. He has in-depth experience in intercultural work and has
been part of severel re-engineering processes. Göran Tamm has special expertise in global Brand
