Since 1984, the Spectrum Awards
has promoted natural colored
gemstones and cultured pearls in
innovative fine jewelry design.
This respected and prestigious
design competition honors and
recognizes designers whose work utilizes the best
color. It sets the benchmark for jewelry designers and
has launched trends, increased visibility and inspired
great innovation in use of color and materials.

HISTORY
1984
First AGTA Spectrum Awards™ competition.
1986
Gessell Studios crafts the first sandblast and carved glass trophies, which are still used today.
1990 Competition debuts first video production of the winners.
1991
First AGTA Cutting Edge Awards™ competition begins to honor excellence and creativity lapidary arts.
1993
The AGTA Spectrum Masterworks Collection premiers.
1996
Llyn Strelau awarded first Platinum Honors™ Award.
1997
B. Sholdt Designs awarded the first Best of Show Award.
1998
G. J. Designs awarded the first Best Use of Color Award.
1999
Manufacturing Honors category debuts to honor pieces to be manufactured in production quantities.
2001
AGTA celebrates it’s 20th Anniversary and asks entrants to utilize emerald, the 20th Anniversary gemstone, or 20 gemstones.
2002
Establishes categories without dollar amount, which include Bridal, Business/Day, Casual, Evening and Men’s.
2004
Judging moved to New York City to host Editors’ Events.
2006
Fashion Forward Honors category introduced and awarded to A & Z Pearls and Devta Doolan Jewelry.
2007
Classical category introduced to honor traditional looks and timeless designs.
2009
Best Use of Pearl & Best Use of Color & Platinum are introduced, awarded to J.W. Currens, Inc. & Erica Courtney, respectively.
2010
Editor’ Choice Award debuts and awarded to Evelyn Clothier Jewelry.
2011
The AGTA Spectrum Awards™ acquire actresses Regina King and Illeana Douglas as the first-ever celebrity models.
2012
The AGTA Spectrum Awards™ jewelry appears in New York’s Time Square.
2013
AGTA Spectrum Awards™ celebrates it’s 30th Anniversary.

RULES AND REGULATIONS
The AGTA Spectrum Awards™ competition is open
to all individuals living in the United States and
Canada.You do not have to be a member of the
AGTA to enter.
Any jewelry or gemstone produced after
October 2012, and not previously entered
into an AGTA competition may be entered.
Entries must be finished pieces;
No drawings will be accepted.

JUDGES
Spectrum Award winners will be selected by
distinguished members of the industry. Entries are
judged on criteria which include overall beauty
and wearability, innovative design, effective use
of materials, quality of gemstones, quality of
workmanship, broad-base consumer appeal and
potential to generate positive publicity for natural
colored gemstones and cultured pearls.
