2013-2014 BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Providence Day School’s Board of Trustees serve as stewards of the school who hold “in trust” its mission and
reputation. As such, Trustees accept the obligation to not only preserve but also to advance the institution. Their
work begins with the fiduciary expectations of duty (due diligence on financials), care (executing decisions by
prudent standards) and obedience (to laws and bylaws). Beyond these duties, Trustees focus on policies and
strategies that are future-focused, leaving daily operations to the Head of School, whom they select. The Board utilizes
several committees to study and assess in depth the needs, activities and performance of the school and to make
recommendations when planning, developing and establishing policy.

2013-2014 BOARD OF ADVISORS
Initiated in 1997, the Providence Day School Board of Advisors serves as a link between the PDS community and the PDS
administration. The Board of Advisors is comprised of current parents, alumni parents, alumni and grandparents.
Members are active supporters of PDS through their gifts of time, talent and resources. With a focus on strategic issues, the
Board of Advisors assists the school in identifying new opportunities for growth and improvement. They also provide PDS
with a clear understanding of the external environment in which the school operates, and help to identify key stakeholders
and potential partners to help PDS achieve its strategic goals.

Dear Parents, Alumni and Friends of PDS:
It has been another incredible year at Providence Day School! From prestigious awards at
rigorous competitions and triumphant victories on the playing field to powerful performances
on stage and everyday successes within the classroom, our reputation for excellence in
academics, the arts, and athletics is steadfast and well earned.
These many achievements celebrate and exemplify the extraordinary Providence Day
experience — from Transitional Kindergarten to Commencement and well beyond — that is
made possible thanks to the enthusiastic efforts and generous support of so many. Among the noteworthy examples is our
alumni giving, which this year surpassed the NAIS’s (National Association of Independent School) national average for day
schools by reaching 11.2 percent!
Our community’s renowned culture of philanthropy is indeed an enterprise in sharing — not only of gifts and donations but
also of knowledge and experience, of time and attention, of compassion and consideration by and for those within and far
beyond our campus.
Our team consists of our exceptional faculty and staff, our dedicated parents, our thriving alumni, and our important
extended family — alumni parents, grandparents, and friends of the school — not to mention our talented students.
Together we share in our mission to inspire a passion for learning, a commitment to personal integrity, and a sense of social
responsibility. Together we are the catalyst for the success, fortitude, and future of our school.

The Providence Day School Heritage Society recognizes those members of the PDS community who have included
Providence Day School in their estate plans. Heritage Society giving to PDS includes planned gifts such as life insurance
policies, bequests and real estate. Gifts to the Heritage Society are generally designated toward the endowment and secure
the future of PDS for generations to come.

1970 SOCIETY
Providence Day School was founded in 1970 by 12 parents who came together to create a school that would provide an exceptional
learning environment for the children of Charlotte. The 1970 Society was established in the spirit of our founders’ commitment to
PDS and recognizes those donors who give $1,000 or more to the school in the current fiscal year.

Once again, thanks to the generosity of the Providence Day School
community, PDS’s Annual Fund campaign surpassed its goal.
The 2013-14 goal of $1,150,000 was surpassed for a total of
$1,257,408 — the highest total in school history.
The Annual Fund provides critical funding that supports every
aspect of life at PDS, from students and faculty to programming and
facilities. The campaign runs July 1 through June 30 every year.
“We are so grateful for each and every gift received from our
donors across the entire PDS community,” said Meggan Barber,
Director of the Annual Fund. “Special thanks to Annual Fund Chairs
Steve and Paige Burgess and to the team of volunteers who worked
so tirelessly on behalf of this year’s campaign.”
PDS hopes all donors realize the value of their generosity far
exceeds just the dollar amount of their gifts. Because of them, PDS
is able to achieve its mission of inspiring a passion for learning

CHARGER CLUB
The Charger Club is an organization of parents from all grade levels whose purpose is supporting all aspects of athletics at
Providence Day School. The Charger Club’s primary goals are to encourage parents and students to become involved in the
athletic programs and to support the programs through community building and fundraising activities.
During the 2013-14 school year, the Charger Club was strategic in their approach of supporting the overall athletic needs of
the school. The Charger Club supported the services provided Woolpert, a design management firm, who is consulting on
the long-term athletics facilities master plan. They also continued to fulfill their philanthropic commitment to the Overcash
Stadium renovation project.
