district lines of Texas
Congressional
District
22, Clear Lake’s loss is
Pearland’s gain. Rep. Pete
Olson (TX-22) has officially
moved his congressional
office to 6302 Broadway
St., Ste. 220, Pearland. As
a result of the newly drawn
district lines, the Clear Lake
area will become part of the 36th Congressional District on Jan. 1, and the Clear Lake office will be closed.
Until then all calls will be forwarded to the Pearland office. Although Olson did not have the good fortune
to be born in Texas, he got here as fast as he could. His family settled in Seabrook, Texas in 1972, where
Olson grew up, graduated from Clear Lake High School, earned a B.A. from Rice University, and law
degree from the University of Texas. On the day he completed the Texas bar examination, he took the oath
of office for service in the United States Navy. After earning his Wings of Gold in March 1991, Olson had a
decorated career flying the P-3C Orion, which is designed to track and destroy ballistic missile submarines.
Olson was transferred to serve on the Joint Chiefs of Staff in 1994 and a year later, was assigned as a naval
liaison officer to the U.S. Senate. In 1998, Olson became a legislative aide to Texas Senator Phil Gramm.
In 2002, newly elected Texas Senator John Cornyn appointed him as his first Chief of Staff. In 2005, Pete
returned home to Texas, and in November 2008, the people of the 22nd District of Texas elected him to the
111th Congress. He was re-elected in 2010 and 2012. Olson said this is the first time Pearland has had a
congressional office. “It’s an indication of the growth that we have had as a city here in Pearland,” Mayor
Tom Reid said after the ceremonial ribbon cutting. If constituents don’t want to communicate by phone,
email, website or fax, “I’ll be here and meet with them personally. If they want to talk to my staff about a
specific issue, they’ll get the same service, but if it’s important to come here, come on,” Olson said. “This
is not my office. It’s their office. They paid for it.”

TML Conference in Grapevine, Texas
November 14-16, Destination Pearland exhibited at the TML
Conference in Grapevine. The purpose of exhibiting was to entice
meetings held by small governments to use Pearland as their
meeting destination.
The entire Pearland City Council and several city officials also
attended the conference for educational purposes. During one of
the breaks, Mayor Tom Reid helped man the booth. Rushi Patel of
the Hampton Inn and SpringHill Suites worked the exhibit as well.
