Well, if you have, you might think that these clever chimps should be in it. These chimps pulled of the same thing on April 9th. Numbers! Ah, they’re the stepping stones of math. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and don’t forget 10. But have you ever asked yourself which is your favorite? No? Well, most people in the world say 7. Why 7 you might ask? I don’t know, maybe because of lucky sevens slot machines. The Dinonet Crew Presents: May 2nd, 2014: Page 2 Scientists have discovered and named the earliest and most primitive pterodactyloid and said they flew above Earth 163 million years ago. The preserved bones of Kryptodrakon progenitor (shown in the picture) has helped make new discoveries on the origin of the pterodactyloids. The research has extended the fossil record of pterodactyloids by at least five million years to the Middle-Upper Jurassic boundary about 163 million years ago. Kryptodrakon progenitor lived around the time of the Middle-Upper Jurassic boundary. Through studying the fossil fragments, researchers also determined that the pterodactyloids originated, lived, and evolved in terrestrial environments. This new take on the history of pterosaurs is supported by a connection found between wing shape and environment in pterosaurs and modern flying vertebrates, like bats and birds. Pterosaurs, however, are not the ancestors of birds -- those are the dinosaurs -and scientists believe that pterosaurs did not evolve into birds or other modern animals humans would know. It is the only spider that is able to move by means of flicflac jumps. The flic-flac spider uses its legs to create a rolling motion. It is like a gymnast because it propels itself off the ground. The nocturnal spider Cebrennus rechenbergi lives in the sand desert Erg Chebbi in southeastern Morocco. The spider's best talent is its ability to move by means of flic-flac jumps. This gives the spider great flexibility. Cebrennus rechenbergi can move along easily. It does this when provoked by a congener, a camel spider, a scorpion or a human. At almost 2 meters per second, the flicflac jumps make the spider move twice as fast as when it is walking. Through examination, Dr. Peter Jäger was able to determine that the flic-flac spider really is a new species. May 2nd, 2014 Page 3 Recent discoveries prove that there was indeed liquid water on Mars 200,000 years ago. This is indeed a sign Mars might have once been like Earth. Now before I say indeed again, I need to explain things to you. A few years ago, probably 10, scientists began to come up with what seemed like a wild idea: colonizing Mars. The idea showed up in various sci-fi stories probably during the 50s, and did seem ridiculous. But when tests on the planet conducted that Mars could indeed be colonized, the project really began! Then, probably 4 years ago or so, research began on Mars being like Earth many moons ago, before life existed here. I’m saying that there’s other life because Mars, at one point, was indeed like Earth, because there is ice on Mars, the ground is rust (a thing that exists here, meaning the hard rusted metal ground was once soil and sand), and it’s almost as big as Earth, meaning it could’ve been sizable for life at one point. It could’ve even had similar paths of evolution, meaning humans could’ve been there before Earth got them! And new satellite photos showing cracks and crevasses supposedly formed by eroding liquid water prove this evidence even further! Even though it’d take even longer to colonize this rusted, barren, and dried blood-colored desert, it’d be satisfying once we indeed do, after centuries of backbreaking toil. Will we colonize Mars? Only when our planet expires… but that won’t happen with so much time for Earth left! On Friday, April 25th, Gersh Academy hosted its first Walk-A-Thon to raise money and awareness for Autism! The kids did an amazing job of walking and raising money. Check out these great pictures! May 2nd, 2014: Page 4 Illustrated by Nicholas Munno Written by: Bobby Shrem Do you know this week’s Pokemon?
