Presentation of the school.
Polarsirkelen Upper Secondary School is a rather large school with around 1300
students and a staff of about 300. The School is situated in Mo i Rana in the
county of Nordland. The school is made up of three locations: Moheia, Mjølan
and Kongsvegen.

The age of the students is generally 16 to 19. The General Study Programmes last
3 years, while the Vocational Study Programmes are based on 2 years at school and
then 2 years of apprenticeship. In stead of being an apprentice for 2 years, the
students can enter a one-year-course of general studies which will give him/her a
general university and college admission’s certificate. The school also has a centre
for courses and adult education.

Information about Mo i Rana and Norway
Norway is situated in the north of Europe. The country covers an area of 386.433
km2 and has a population of around 4,8 mill. inhabitants. Norway is divided into 19
counties and 431 local boroughs.
Mo i Rana is situated near
to the Arctic Circle and it
is the 3rd largest town
Northern Norway. The
borough has 25,124
inhabitants. The town is
the centre of Rana borough,
which is Norway’s largest
town area, covering 4463
km2.

Mo i Rana has a varied business life. Around a hundred small and bigger companies,
with Norwegian and foreign owners, are situated in the area of the old state run
Steal Mill, which has been converted into an industrial estate. In Rana there are
more than 1,000 enterprises, and the town has valuable competence in many fields
within industry, computer technology, education and culture. Around 500 students
are connected to higher education in Rana.
The town also has a rich cultural life which stimulates the inhabitants.
Here you can find regional theatres ( Nordland Theatre, South Sami Theatre),
cinemas, museums, culture school and lots of clubs and societies. A number of
music and theatre festivals are arranged throughout the year.
Mo i Rana is the centre of communications in Northern
Helgeland, with railway, main roads north-south/east-west,
airport and one of the busiest harbours in Norway.
Rana’s beautiful scenery with closeness to mountain and ocean,
gives rich possibilities for recreation, hunting and fishing.
From the Arctic Circle Town you have short distance to coast or
to mountain. Within an hour’s drive westwards you have access
to the fantastic coastal area of Helgeland . If the weather is
agreeable, you can, for a short period, see the midnight sun.

Drive northwards for an hour or so, and you are up in the mountain area of
Saltfjellet near the Arctic Circle Centre . A 20 minutes’ drive towards Sweden, and
you are up in a beautiful area for skiing. Rana is in total area quite a large borough,
which has a varied scenery. When it is dark during Winter, you might see the
spectacular Northern Light phenomenon.
