Why at Erode?
Erode is the administrative headquarters of Erode District in the South Indian state of Tamil
Nadu. Erode is the seventh largest urban agglomeration in Tamil Nadu. Located on the banks
of River Kaveri, and has been ruled, at different times, by the Early Pandyas, Medieval Cholas,
Later Cholas, Vijayanagar Empire, Madurai Nayaks, Hyder Ali, Carnatic kingdom and the
British. It is situated at the centre of the South Indian Peninsula, about 400 kilometres southwest
of the state capital Chennai and about 82 kilometres east of Coimbatore with International
Airport. It is well connected with all major cities by road. Agriculture, Fisheries, Cattle Fields,
Animal Husbandary, Poultry Farms, Handloom, Powerloom textile products and Readymade
garments industries contribute to the economy of the city. The people in the city are employed
in various textile, oil and turmeric manufacturing industries.
