President's Message
Our July meeting was themed by our Nation's Birthday. Thanks to all who pitched in
to make it so festive.
The motion to increase our monthly meal donation to $10.00 (except for Christmas) was
defeated. We are open to suggestions on how to insure that we do not lose money at our
monthly meetings. To this end, Trustee Hank Ingorvate has accepted the chairmanship of
the newly formed Meals Committee. Please seriously consider becoming a member of
this committee if approached by Chairman Hank. This committee is the place to direct
any ideas, comments, or suggestions on any facet of the monthly meals. In this way, we hope to keep the business
portion of our Monthly General Meetings short and allow time for other programs of interest.
Denise Ciarmoli has agreed to chair our Program Committee. She will have a report at our August meeting about
an event planned for the evening of September 6 after our Annual Garage Sale. Busy day, but it's a chance to get
together and also raise funds. So please plan to participate in both events.
The Executive Committee voted to postpone the Annual Lodge Picnic at the Encinitas Bocce Courts due to a
number of conflicts with the date. Hope to have an update for you at the August Meeting.
Update - Dinner-Dance Saturday October 25 St. Patrick's, Carlsbad
I am pleased to announce that thanks to the efforts of Immediate Past President Sadie Tamburine, Frank DiSalvo
(Vice President of the Dolly Sinatra Lodge in Palm Springs) has accepted our Nomination for Italian-American of
the Year. Frank is a highly regarded entertainer in Palm Desert, and in his show, he brings all of the great ItalianAmerican singing stars back to life. Sadie and I had the opportunity to meet him at the State Grand Lodge
Convention, and he's the real deal.
On a similar note, your Executive Committee selected Immediate Past President and State Orator Sadie Tamburine
to be our 2014 Honoree in recognition of her many years of dedicated service to both our Lodge and O.S.I.A. in
general.
I think you'll agree, that with these two most deserving Honorees in attendance, this is an event not to be missed.
Sempre Avanti.
Cliff Monzeglio
President

NEXT MEETING IS TUESDAY, AUGUST 5TH
DINNER 6:30PM
MEETING 7:30PM
The Minutes
7/1/14
Prior to the meeting the membership was treated to an Americana style meal in celebration of July 4th. A wonderful time
with many helping hands and smiling faces. Thank you to our cooks, bakers and servers for the delicious food. Thank you to
Adele for setting up decorations.
The meeting was called to order by President Cliff Monzeglio at 7:32pm.
Pres. Cliff welcomed the following guests: State Deputy, Sid Tamburine and State Orator, Sadie Tamburine. Rita Stasio
brought her granddaughter, Mary. Gloria Minano-Doty brought her niece (and junior member) Katherine and good friend,
Wendy Evers.
A roll call of officers was taken with Mimi Gattinella and Rosalia Brown absent.
The Minutes from the June meeting were approved as published in the La Voce.
Financial and Treasurer's reports will be given next month.
Communications this month included an invitation to the Columbia Lodge #1940 Anniversary Celebration at the Elks Club in
San Mateo on September 7th. Also, the Joanne Coccia Lodge #2553 30th Anniversary Dinner Dance on August 23 in
Fontana.
Unfinished Business: A motion was on the table for a raise in the monthly dinner price from $7 to $10, with the exception of
our December holiday meal. A secret ballot was collected and counted. The announcement was made to not change the
dinner price.
Past President, Sadie confirmed our Anniversary Dinner Dance for Saturday, October 25th at St Patrick's in Carlsbad.
Suggestions on our theme were taken and will be decided soon. We are considering the next Honoree. The caterers are the
same with a different meal line up. The music entertainment will once again be Oscar Aries.
VP Sal gave an update about the State Convention last week to let us know how Kathryn Webb made us all so proud of her
for all her work, time, dedication and love she has demonstrated through many years! Congratulations to Kathryn for
winning one of the biggest scholarships and left the convention to go directly to Italy were she is staying with a host family.
New Business: The Bocce Picnic will be coming up on Saturday, July 19th at the Bocce court in Encinitas. Jim Mazzeo will be
able to have the key to the equipment. We hope to see everyone there.
Good of the Order: Gloria announced the Farewell to Rita Stasio celebration as she will be moving back east to live with her
family. There will be a Sunday Champagne Brunch held at The Crossings in Carlsbad beginning about 11am on July 27th. The
cost is $25 per person.
Doug Bishop and Mike Seymour discussed designing a new t-shirt for our lodge.
Please continue to donate your change to the Cooley's Anemia can collection- a worthy cause!
Pres. Cliff adjourned the meeting at 8:09pm.
50/50 winner- Ted, the Elks bartender. Once again, Ted donated his winnings back to our lodge. Thank you so much.
Respectfully Submitted,
Carolyn Petrella
Recording Secretary
