PREFACE
We are very pleased to bring you the 4th edition of Synagri’s Seed Guide. Our portfolio has evolved a great deal
over the years, integrating a number of new varieties into our SEMICO and SOYHINOVA range of products.
A new feature has been added this year. While genetics may remain a key factor in the selection of new
varieties, all of these are subjected to a number of tests. Our intention is to share the results of these tests
with our clients, and to provide them with the tools they need to achieve the full genetic potential of these
new varieties.
Of course, our priorities remain the training for our staff and our quality assurance programs, and we are
keeping these up rigorously.
I invite you to contact our representatives and agents, who will be able to give you details about which seeds
would be most suitable for your business.

I hope you enjoy this guide!

SEMICO forage seeds have been synonymous with success and confidence for more than 32 years. They are exclusive innovative
and quality high end products.
Our cultivars are selected based on the specific needs of today’s local producers in terms of forage quality, digestibility, yield,
resistance to disease, regrowth and persistence.
All of these features have helped made SEMICO forage seeds a product that is recognized and sought-after by producers who
are interested in increasing their productivity and profitability while at the same time reducing their production costs.
All of our mixes are prepared in our authorized seed establishment in Saint-Hyacinthe.

PROTECT-FOIN PLUS... for dry hay or silage
BIO-PLUS... for silage
Protect-Foin Plus is a 70% buffered organic acid (56% propionic and
16% acetic). The combination of these two organic acids (in a ratio of
4:1) yields a broad spectrum of aerobic micro-organisms. It is a liquid
mould inhibitor for legume and grass hay with high moisture content.
It is non-corrosive.
Protect-Foin Plus helps reduce heat buildup and mold in pressed hay
between 20 and 35% humidity when used as directed.
200 g water soluble or 20 kg granular product (treats 40 MT of corn
silage or 20 MT of grass silage)
Bio-Plus is a unique and natural non-corrosive product that combines
3 lactic bacteria and 3 enzymes. The purpose of using an inoculant
such as Bio-Plus is to supply homolactic bacteria that are more
effective than natural bacteria for converting soluble sugars into lactic
acid, and thereby lower pH as quickly as possible.

Seal the silage silo (last 15-20 MT) by adding PROTECT-FOIN PLUS
(5 L/ton) on the top of the silo. Apply using a gravity blower with a tap
or applicator installed next to the blower. This reduces heat buildup and
mold when the silage is fed immediately after being placed in the silo.
Silage treated with Protect-Foin Plus can be served the same day. No
waiting period is required. If the silage is not used immediately, it should
be covered with a tarp.
Protect-Foin Plus is available in 20, 200 and 1000 kg formats.
A HOMOFERMENTATIVE inoculant
• Produces only lactic acid
• Lowers pH very quickly by preserving all sugars and producing very
little heat
• Minimizes the loss of dry materials.
• Improves the digestion of forage
MOLD-ZAP... for total mixed rations (TMRs) and silage
This is a unique mix of propionic and other buffered organic acids
that blend to form a powerful mould inhibitor in TMRs and preserved
foods. Its natural lemony flavor enhances the palatability of cattle feed.
MOLD-ZAP is non-corrosive and is safe to use in animal feed. It inhibits
an extremely broad range of mold species.
Designed to inhibit the growth of mold, MOLD-ZAP:
• Reduces the heat caused by mold in TMRs, in coated feed and in
silage exposed to air
• Improves savouriness thanks to its natural lemony taste
• Improves the quality of ingested feed
• Reduces waste in animal feed
• Helps reduce losses in animal production

These tests reveal a great deal about the main agronomic and phitosanitary characteristics of our varieties when compared
with competing varieties and respected sources. However, given the relatively small number of tests, the limited
distribution and a strict conventional management model, more widespread testing would be required
To compensate for this situation, Synagri has introduced numerous crop management
tests in order to determine the most appropriate form of management for each of
our wheat, barley and oat varieties to ensure that they achieve their full yield. Based on
this information, we are now able to better advise our producers and to recommend the best
varieties according to their needs and their environment.
In order to restore cereals to their rightful place, we also established a culture monitoring program called CEREAL EXPERT.
This program is designed for producers who are interested in improving their cereal cultures and maximizing the output of their

that would be called for in terms of adjustments in machinery, seeding rate and depth, user of fertilizer and phytosanitary
products, rotations, and the timing and method of harvesting and storage.
Finally, we are developing links with different stakeholders in the industry in order to diversify their markets. For example, wheat
for human consumption, oat groats and hulless barley.

Every variety of SEMICO barley has its own characteristics. However, they all have excellent yield and grain
quality, as well as good tolerance to fusarium head blight. SEMICO’s 6 row varieties of barley are rated at

The components variation percentage (± 5%) is not necessarily the most important factor in the choice of a mixture. The environmental conditions in the current year determine the development of every component in the mixture. There is a complex relationship between seed characteristics
and the environment in which they will compete with one another for space, water, nutriments and light. There are more advantages in growing mixtures in an uncertain farming environment.

The cultivation of canola, although variable from year to year, has nonetheless gained in popularity in the zones suited to its
cultivation. The introduction of traits such as resistance to clubroot is an important criterion for regions where this disease is
relatively prevalent.

In order to meet the needs of producers who are interested in growing canola, Synagri has connected with
a few select partners to offer new glyphosate-resistant cultivars.
74-44 BL... Blackleg resistant
Description:
New hybrid evaluated for a first year in the 2013 RGCQ* trials. Best hybrid in 2012 Ontario trials with 106% of relative performance of controls
(Meaford and Listowel).
• Type: Genuity ® Roundup Ready ® hybrid
• Resistant to blackleg
Advantages:
• Superior performance in Alberta and Ontario
• Good shelling tolerance at harvest
• Early maturity
Synagri has been looking into the management of winter canola crops in southern Quebec and eastern
Ontario production zones to which spring canola is not well adapted. Initial results have been interesting
and have encouraged us to offer the new option of a canola that can be sowed in August for a fall crop. The
choice of fields and seeding dates remain important criteria for growing winter canola.
Sitro... Definitely the most productive
Description :
• Adapted to Zones 1 and 2
• Most productive in 2012 Ontario trials with a relative yield of 105%
• Available this year at Synagri
Advantages:
• Yield and vigor

73-75RR... Mid-season maturity hybrid
Description:
After the first year in the RGCQ* trials, 73-75RR shows a very good combination of high yield with a mid-season maturity. 73-75RR is becoming
our best new glyphosate resistance hybrid.
• Type : Genuity® Roundup Ready® Hybrid
• Height of the plant: short
• Lodging: good
• Oil content: high
• Black leg: (% Westar): R
• Fusarium wilt resistance: R

The seeding density of canola should be between 75 and 130 seed/m2 that means about 3.5 to 5 kg/ha for a TKW of 4 to 5 grams. Always check the
TKW corresponding to the seed lot to be planted.
