Let's try to have ‘one normal night’ at the theatre by
leaving all mobile devices off. The use of all cell phones,
recording devices, and photography of any kind is strictly
prohibited and will get you sent straight to the torture
chamber... we don’t recommend it unless, of course, you’re
into that sort of thing.

“The

Good Company Players’ upcoming production of Smokey Joe’s Cafe celebrates the
talents of Jerry Leiber
and Mike Stoller, two of
the truly distinctive creators of mid-twentiethcentury pop music.
Both were born in
1933, Leiber in Baltimore, Stoller in Queens,
New York. They were
both students in Los
Angeles in 1950 when

they were introduced by a mutual friend.
They found they shared a love of rhythm
and blues music and began writing right
away. Leiber served as the sharp-witted lyricist while the classically trained but jazz-loving Stoller wrote the music. By the end of the
year, jazz/blues singer Jimmy Witherspoon
had recorded and performed their first commercial song, “Real Ugly Woman.”
By the time they were 20, in just three years
of working together, their early songs had
been recorded by a collection of true allstars in the rhythm and
blues genre including
Jimmy
Witherspoon,
Charles Brown, Little
Willie Littlefield, Bull
Moose Jackson, Linda
Hopkins, Ray Charles
and Willie Mae (Big

made the first recording
of “Hound Dog” in 1952.

Atlantic Records executives were impressed
and in 1955 signed the duo to the music industry’s first independent production deal,
forever changing the course of production in
the industry.
For the next several years, well into the late
1960s, the hits of Leiber and Stoller were constantly at the top of the charts, including the
memorable “Stand By Me,” “Spanish Harlem”

William Shakespeare’s merry romp, The
Comedy of Errors, just opened at Good Company Players’ 2nd Space Theatre and continues through October 12. Two sets of identical
twins are separated as children by a shipwreck
and raised in ignorance of each other’s whereabouts. When grown, they wind up in the same
town by accident and the possibilities are endless: angry spouses, near-seductions, false arrests, and mild insanity are the order of the day.

One of GCP’s most popular Holiday shows
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever opens
November 1. In this hilarious Christmas classic, a couple struggling to put
on a church Christmas pageant is faced
with casting the Herdman kids--probably the most inventively awful kids in

The
Pre-Show
Since tonight’s mainstage show is about a loving family – albeit a scary one -- the Junior Company would
like to pay tribute to families, too – musical families.
The pre-show this evening features music written or
performed by siblings, cousins, spouses, parents and
children.

this cocktail made with Meyers Dark Rum, Vanilla Torani, Pineapple Juice, and Blue Curacao.
Served on the rocks.
MOONSTRUCK - A hot Cafe’ Mocha spiked
with Dark Creme De Cacao and Irish Cream.
Topped with whipped cream and a drizzle of
Chocolate Sauce.
THE GHOUL – (Non-Alcoholic) – A Salted Caramel Hot Cider made with Torani Salted Caramel Syrup, and topped with Whipped Cream,
Caramel Sauce and Fresh Cracked Sea Salt.
SHAKES Available with or without alcohol
except where noted
TERRIBLE STORM – A Pumpkin Shake Blended with Pureed Pumpkin, Pumpkin Pie Spice,
and Bailey’s Irish Cream. Topped with Whipped
Cream.
