The Next Generation of Denture Courses
Education Programme for 2012/13
Course Leaders: Marc Northover & Andrew Taylor
Welcome to the removable revolution
The removable revolution is well under way, with hundreds of Dental Technicians evolving into the next
generation of denture experts. Clinical Dental Technicians now work in everyday partnerships with Implant
Dentists, pursuing the ideal goal of providing edentulous patients with implant assisted dentures that are
comparable in function to natural teeth.

enamel surfaces. The proximal surfaces are designed to tightly fit together
in a unique ‘Set & Fit’ design enhancing the ‘white aesthetics’ of the
restoration and allowing for a more natural looking gingival
architecture.
Next generation denture teeth
The latest generation of SR Phonares II now offers an expanded range of
use to the customer in particular cases that place the teeth under high
masticatory force such as in implant supported restorations. The material’s
molecular components have been optimised to increase its toughness with
a higher resistance to wear and chipping when under pressure. Other
benefits of the material include the reduction of opalescence and reduced
brightness when in the mouth, low affinity to plaque and a precise shade
match to the A-D shade systems.
Precision dentures at the touch of a button
Participants will also learn about the new SR Ivobase system, a new fully
automated electronic injection moulding device that combines the positive
properties of self-cured and heat-cured polymers. This symbiosis of two
chemical worlds forms a new quality standard, creating a hybrid denture
base material with an extremely high accuracy of fit plus very low thermal
shrinkage, high material density, high fracture toughness, and low residual
monomer content, all achieved within a relatively short curing time.
SR Phonares II tooth moulds have been designed to match the gender,
age and characteristics of the individual patient. The tooth moulds are
available with ‘soft’ and ‘bold’ characteristics. Each soft and bold category
is further subdivided into the three age groups: youthful, universal and
mature. SR Phonares II is distinguished by a high quality surface texture
that reproduces the mild true-to-nature ripple effect seen on natural

This new system enables the user to create tissue-friendly dentures using a

offering unparalleled accuracy of fit.

Birmingham
Course Leaders: Marc Northover, Clinical Dental Technician
Andrew Taylor, Clinical Dental Technician
CPD: 6 Hours
Fee: £295 plus VAT
This introductory one day clinical course is designed for Clinical
Dental Technicians who wish to improve their existing knowledge
of full arch prosthetics. It includes clinical demonstrations, lectures
and discussion.
The Biofunctional Prosthetic System (BPS)
The latest developments within the BPS denture system provide solutions
to many prosthetic difficulties encountered when treating patients
with edentulism, and when planning for implant retained full arch
prosthetics. The BPS protocol involves implementing standardised clinical
and laboratory techniques which help to create dentures with enhanced
appearance and optimised performance. By attending this course you
will gain the skills that you need to treat the edentulous patient with this
system, and also gain a better understanding of the latest generation
of denture teeth – SR Phonares II – and learn about the new SR Ivobase
system, a fully automated electronic injection moulding device that
produces precision denture bases offering unparalleled accuracy of fit
and fracture toughness.

Put your clinical skills to the test
The first half of this course will detail the use of each clinical component
of the BPS system; the course leaders will demonstrate the application of
the system for each appointment when treating the edentulous patient.
You will see at first hand just how simple it can be to capture all of the
precise information you need to restore the smile and face to its correct
natural proportions. We will look at recording the Vertical Dimension of
Occlusion and Centric Relation using the Gnathometer M gothic arch
tracing appliance and dual mouth impressions. During the second half
of the course, participants will then treat a patient using the techniques
demonstrated.
•
Understand the complementary clinical components of the Biofunctional Prosthetic System
with a particular emphasis on full arch prosthetics
Learn to incorporate the BPS system when planning treatment of the edentulous arch
Learn to correctly record the important anatomical landmarks for full arch prosthetics with
primary two-stage alginate impressions
Learn the importance of dual mouth functional impressions in full arch prosthetics
Learn the importance of a gothic arch tracing system for full arch prosthetics
Learn to objectively establish the patient’s OVD and CR by use of a gothic arch tracing system
Learn to check chairside the working and balancing side contacts of complete dentures
Understand the next generation of the technical components of the Biofunctional Prosthetic
System with particular emphasis in full arch prosthetics
Understand the use of ideal reference points for full arch prosthetics – median plane,
horizontal plane, Camper’s plane, Bonwill triangle and Balkwill angle
Learn to analyse edentulous casts identifying the stable reference points important for the
restoration of the full arch using complete dentures

SR Nexco – Lifelike appearance: Aesthetics made easy
SR Nexco is a next generation flowable laboratory composite cured only with light. During
the course each CDT will learn the advanced application of the material for multiple
layered prosthetic gingiva upon the processed SR Ivobase material and the modification/
characterization of SR Phonares II teeth. The micro opal fillers provide a true to nature
appearance with optical properties that perfectly match that of SR Phonares II and the
vitality of a natural tooth. The SR Nexco A-D shades have been specially designed to
perfectly blend with those of the SR Phonares II denture teeth.

This exclusive One-to-One tuition takes into account your interests and experience
in full arch prosthetics and can be designed around your personal needs. During
your time together with Marc you will complete clinical sessions, laboratory
sessions and discussion. To achieve this, you will ‘learn through work’ treating
three edentulous patients by appointment from initial consultation through to tryin. This will be achieved in a ‘live’ clinical environment and by working together in
the dental laboratory.
“Over the past four years, I have attended several courses presented
by Marc and Andrew from the BPS technical, to ‘one to one’ advanced
clinical courses. The blend of professionalism & approachability they
demonstrate cannot be over stated. I would recommend & encourage
any Technician or CDT intent on improving their skills or learning new
techniques to consider attending one of the many courses they offer.”
With this One-to-One training, you will become a knowledgeable operator of the
complete BPS system including the use of latest generation of SR Phonares II and
SR Ivobase and gain from Marc’s experience, enabling you to take full advantage
of your tuition when treatment planning for your edentulous patients.
In co-ordination with good patient management, the techniques passed on to
you will help you produce a more predictable outcome and give you the extra
confidence in your day-to-day work with edentulous patients.

“I attended a 3 day one-to-one personalised learning programme with
Marc that he designed specifically for my needs. The level of training
made me feel very confident in my new work with patients. The course
content left me feeling revitalised as a Dental Technician and excited
about moving forward with my education as a CDT. I am looking
forward to working to the best of my ability using the BPS products and
giving my patients thirty years of experience.”
