Tampa Bay Area Church
Installs Line Array Rig
South Biscayne Church installed a D.A.S. line array system.
NORTH PORT, FL — GC Pro (Guitar Center Professional Division) of Atlanta, working
in conjunction with Tampa-based Event Resource Group, designed and deployed an
all-D.A.S. line array system for South Biscayne
Church in Florida’s Tampa Bay area.
“There were many design challenges in
providing the ideal audio system for South
Biscayne,” said GC Pro’s Brad Lyons. “Formerly a shopping center, the worship center’s
ceiling height was just under 20 feet with a
dropped ceiling. The space itself measures
roughly 100 feet deep and 70 feet wide. With
support beams running across the side of the
area, this technically cut the trim height. The
sanctuary uses movable seating and has a
capacity for roughly 900 people. Music plays
a huge role in worship services, with a full
worship band, vocal team and occasionally a
choir. But ultimately, the message is the fundamental teaching, so both music reproduction and a high level of speech intelligibility
were essential from the sound system.”
To address these challenges, Lyons and the
Event Resource Group team flew two clusters
of four Event 208A line array elements for the
left-right hangs over the front edge of the
stage at a height of 18 feet. Low frequency
support comes from two D.A.S. Event 218A
subs in recessed cubicles under the stage
front. Four D.A.S. Action M12A floor monitors
provide foldback for vocalists. “Between the
use of AFMG’s EASE Focus acoustic modeling
software for system tuning, we were able to
plan how many loudspeakers were required
and at what angles they should be positioned
to achieve the perfect coverage pattern,” Lyons explained.
“The challenge on this install was to provide even sound coverage not only from side
to side, but also from front to back — while
at the same time not creating line-of-sight
issues with the video screens,” Lyons added.
“The Event line arrays were not only the right
size, their broad horizontal dispersion and
solid throw made them the perfect solution.
The system delivers incredible sound with
amazing clarity of vocals and instruments
along with huge bottom-end from the two
subs. The system provides incredibly even
coverage without being too loud.”

times, Patan Hospital, is still standing and
able to function. The main problem is keeping all patients on the main floor as a precaution with the continuing aftershocks, but they
will be compiling product needs once the immediate chaos passes.
Helping Hands out of Boulder, Colorado is
requesting assistance from Project CURE and
a surgical group out of Washington DC. They
are still assessing needs.
Having only eight slots for planes, with no
wide-body aircraft allowed, the government
has prioritized the use of its airport, limited to
search and rescue, food and shelter, medical
and other support.
Given the logistics of where Nepal is —
7,000 miles from the U.S. — JABOR is not in
an efficient position to rush in with air freight
and can better assist in the ongoing and
long-term situation especially in the medical
arena since it works so closely with Project
CURE. JABOR is considering plans to join in an
effort to ship some sea containers to rebuild
and restock medical centers in and around
Kathmandu.
