CUSCO
Location
Cusco, the gateway to Machu Picchu, is located in the valley of the Huatanay
River in the southeast of the Andes at 3400 meters above sea level. Cusco is
1153 Kms. southwest from Lima.
History
Cusco is the former capital of Tahuantinsuyo, the center of the Empire of the
Four Regions and the "Navel of the world”. From this city unfurled one of the
most remarkable empires in the history of mankind. The Incas expanded their
frontiers in less than one hundred years from the north of Quito in Ecuador to
Santiago de Chile far south. In the eastern direction they reached Argentina.
Although the Incas are not well known in the western world, they were bigger
than many ancient cultures intensively studied.

AREQUIPA
Location
Arequipa is located at a height of 2325 meters in the desert mountains of the
Andes. This beautiful city is practically totally built out of sillar, a kind of white
volcanic stone. This is why Arequipa is called the white city. With its one
million inhabitants, Arequipa is Peru´s second biggest city. The main square,
the “Plaza de Armas” is the most beautiful of the country. The magnificent
"Catedral" and the shopping malls are in colonial style.
Climate
It presents temperatures between 25°C and 10°C; with more than 300 days of
sun. The humid season (from December to March) is characterized by the
presence of clouds and little precipitations. In winter (June and July), it
becomes slighty colder and the temperature descends until an average of 10ºC
but the dry climate aid to feel the cold with smaller intensity. With a number
record of 4000 hours of exhibition to the sun in the year, Arequipa justifies its
nickname of “City of the eternal blue sky”.

IQUITOS
Loreto is the largest yet least populated department in Peru. It is covered by dense
vegetation and by primary and secondary jungle with low hills and slightly rolling landscape,
crisscrossed by the many rivers of the Amazon River basin, which is born at the confluence
of the Marañon and Ucayali Rivers.
Iquitos, the capital of Loreto, is the main port city on the Amazon River and the largest city
in the Peruvian jungle. Different indigenous people groups like the Cocama, Huitoto, and
Bora first inhabited the area, then came the Jesuit missionaries who founded the city. At the
end of the nineteenth century was when Iquitos experienced its greatest economic glory
due to the rubber industry. The economic bonanza meant that luxurious buildings like the
art noveau Palace Hotel and the Iron House, designed by the famous French architect
Gustave Eiffel, were constructed there. In contrast to these buildings, you find the homes in
the Belen neighborhood that are constructed on top of rafts and pylons to protect them
from the flooding of the river.
One of the best attractions in Loreto is navigating on the rivers and lakes and enjoying the
beautiful beaches. The Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve (2,080,000 hectares), the largest
reserve in Peru, is located 183 kilometers from the city and is home to numerous plant and
animal species, many of them in danger of extinction like the charapa river turtle, the giant
river otter, the black caiman, and the river dolphin.
Likewise, the Allpahuayo-Mishana National Reserve (58,000 hectares) protects the largest
concentration of white sand forests, or varillales as they are known in the Peruvian Amazon
rainforest. This happens to be one of the best areas to go for bird-watching. In addition to
these national reserves, there are also numerous private reserves, which have been created
to satisfy all tastes.
ALTITUDE
Capital: Iquitos (104 masl / 341 fasl)
Lowest point: 70 masl / 230 fasl (Amelia)
Highest point: 220 masl / 722 fasl (Balsapuerto)
CLIMATE
The weather in Iquitos is hot and rainy all year long. The average annual maximum
temperature is 31ºC (88ºF) and the minimum is 21ºC (70ºF). The dry season (July–
November) and the flood season (December–July) feature particular differences in the plant
and animal life, as well as in the climate.
IQUITOS, THE GRATE JUNGLE ADVENTURE
04 Days / 03 Nights
Day 1: Lima – Iquitos - Amazon River & Serpentario - Lodge
……….
Our guide collects you from the airport or your hotel; the transfer by bus from
Iquitos airport to the Bellavista port is a 1/2 hour ride. On the way we pass
the fascinating vibrant jungle metropolis with historical roots in the rubber
boom.
We head towards the Bellavista harbor on the Nany River to board our
speedboat for a 45 minute trip up the Nanny and Momon rivers (Note: It is
quite possible that you will share the boat trip with other passengers who are
entering the lodge at the same time).
On the way we observe the Nanay and Amazon River, you will note the
“meeting of the waters” a blending of the Amazon which is brown and Nanay
which is black water. (Sometimes you can see the pink or gray
dolphins).
We will appreciate our natural wonder that is the “Amazon River”
Visit to “Barrio Florido” a small village where you can see Victoria Regia
plants, and see a collection of aligators and paiche fish.
On the way to the lodge we stop to visit the Serpentarium. A local Peruvian
man has a fine collection of wild animals including Boa and Anaconda snakes,
monkeys, jungle cats and sloths. He is happy for you to pick up the animals
and take plenty of photographs. This is actually a real fun part of the whole
jungle tour experience as it is the only time that you can really get up close
and personal with the animals!
Upon arrival at the Lodge we are warmly greeted with a welcome drink made
of local tropical fruits. Our Guide will explain the activities and he will give an
orientation of the bungalows and the main facilities available at the Lodge.
We have our first taste of the delicious food in our restaurant “The Hungry
Monkey”.
Free Afternoon: Boating, walking excursion or If you prefer, time to relax at
the lodge such as the large swimming pool, the water slide, the Jacuzzi as
well as going to the top of our two towers to enjoy the view or relaxing on the
balcony overlooking the Momon river to watch the boats sailing by and
observe the birdlife.
After dinner your Guide fascinates us with tales of the jungle, telling us
about jungle folkore: Tales of pink dolphins that turn into humans and seduce
young maidens, the whistling of the Tunchi, and the one-legged ELF known
as the Chulluchuki.
Day 2: Lodge
05:30h
(Optional) We rise at the crack of dawn, around 05:30 AM, for an hour long
canoe ride up river to enjoy the great variety of bird life. Many bird species of
the Amazon are active at this hour feeding on fruit trees and diving into the
river to catch small fish. We hear their joyful singing as they fly around.
After breakfast: Hike through the jungle to explore the rainforest. We visit the
river communities of Gen Gen and Centro Fuerte where we will learn the
customs and habits of the mestizo people who live on the river banks of the
Amazon region. These “River People” are humble subsistence farmers and
fishermen. In their small plots they harvest manioc tuber and plantains. They
use small canoes and fishing nets to harvest the abundant variety of fish in
the river. We will have a game of football against the local villagers from Gen
Gen or Centro Fuerte (optional).
Visit the Botanical Garden “Chullachaki”. The owner will give an
explanation about medicinal plants growing in this beautiful garden.
We visit the ‘Alamas’ Indigenous Tribe. They recently moved to our area
and they have built a small community with a large communal hut where they
offer us a typical friendly greeting. They dance and sing and perform their
traditional rituals. They offer us their home made handicrafts made out of
local plants, seeds and wood from the area.
We will travel by boat to Piranha Park a private reserve. It is a place to
enjoy nature; there are five lakes, in one of them you can fish piranhas, in
another other fish of the region, take a ride on a cayak; you can observe
primates, a great variety of trees with long fibers and medicinal plants; you
can see Victoria Regia, considered the largest water lilies; they have large
round leaves measuring up to 1 meter in diameter, the flower is up to 40 cm
diameter. They open from six in the evening, blooming from March to July. In
this area you can find virgin forest and explore the mysteries of our jungle.
After the delicious evening meal we motor our way up river with our long
canoe; after a while the Guide switches off the engine and in complete silence
we drift downstream under the moon and stars, enjoying the chorus of
nocturnal animals, fire flies, insects, frogs, birds, owls, jumping fish and other
creatures of the night.
Day 3: Loldge
Breakfast at the lodge.
Visit our new attracion: an Insectarium called ‘Macrodonta’. It is a center
of display of nature in which you observe several species of insects such as
spiders, beetles, ants, grasshopers, butterflies, etc. The local guide gives an
explanation of each type of insect which are housed in 12 specially built
enclosers.
The second part of the tour shows the ruber demostration for making
hadicraft products; Rubber is obtained from a tree by a treatment of a milky
juice called “latex” . Your guide explains the whole process.

cane maker and taste his delicious sugar cane liquor.

the cacophony of sounds that begin after dark. Sometime you see tarantulas!
After dinner, we have a musical jungle jam session using a variety of local
acoustic instruments that we keep by the Restaurant, such as harmonicas,
guitars and flutes. Each of the tourists can pick an instrument and we can
have fun playing and singing until the wee hours of the night.

Breakfast at the Lodge
On our final day, from here we make our way back to the city of Iquitos and
on the way we make visits by boat, to the Boras Indigenous Tribe who

us their traditional dancing and singing. The men chant and beat their drums
and the women sing and dance playfully. After several songs the young Indian
girls invite the tourists to join in the dancing and everybody ends up dancing
together going round and round in big circles. After the dancing session is
over we can take plenty of photos of the tourists together with the Indians
and they will show us their lovely collection of handicrafts which they offer for
sale to the visitors.
Visit to the Butterfly Farm, just off the Nanay River near the village of Padre
Cocha. There is a large enclosed area which houses dozens of species of

The cast Iron House built by Eiffel, designed by the French architect
Gustave Eiffel (of Eiffel Tower fame) in 1897.

PUNO
Location
Puno is without a doubt one of the most attractive destinies in Peru and one of
most interesting in the continent: few cities have the privilege to be located to
borders of a natural wonder like the Titicaca, then highest navigable lake in the
world.
Located in the Plateau of the Collao and on the shores of the Titicaca (3860
meters above sea level) Puno is the most important lake port of Peru. Its
strategic location between the cities of Cusco and La Paz, makes of Puno a notto-be-missed step for the tourists who travel between Peru and Bolivia. The
limits of Puno are Tacna, Moquegua and Arequipa. Puno is 1303 Kilometers
south of Lima.
The city of Puno
Puno is a tourist place thanks to the nearby Titikaka Lake and Sillustani
Burial Towers. The city itself isn't very interesting and looks poor. Most of the
buildings are made of adobe and covered with metal roofs. The center is small.
The Jirón Lima is a car free street with restaurants and pubs. This street is the
center of nightlife and many tourists and locals come together in this place.
Peñas with live music create a pleasant atmosphere. One end of this street is
the Plaza de Armas with the Cathedral built in 1747 by Simón de Asta. The
railway station is situated on Avenida la Torre where you can also find a
market of vegetables and fruits. In the small tiny streets of Puno a lot of
bicycles are used for transportation. As these are also used as taxi, they bring
visitors to the harbor at the end of Avenida el Puerto and Avenida Titikaka.
Boat trips are offered with a guide to the floating islands of Uros and to the
islands of Taquile and Amantaní.

LIMA
Lima is the capital and largest city of Peru. It is located in the valleys of the
Chillón, Rímac and Lurín rivers, on a coast overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It
forms a contiguous urban area with the seaport of Callao. After Sao Paulo and
Mexico City it is the third largest city in Latin America.
Lima was founded by Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro on January 18,
1535, as La Ciudad de los Reyes, or "The City of Kings." It became the most
important city in the Spanish Viceroyalty of Peru and, after the Peruvian War of
Independence, was made the capital of the Republic of Peru. Today, around
one-third of the Peruvian population lives in the metropolitan area.

This excursion offers the best combination of the different attractions in Lima and its three
historical periods: pre-Hispanic, colonial and contemporary. In Lima, there were several
different pre-Columbian cultures which are dated thousands of years back. Lima was part of
the Inca Empire until was founded by the Spaniard Francisco Pizarro on the 18th of January,
1535. During our guided tour we will travel along its millenary history.
ANCESTRAL LIMA. At the Huaca Pucllana, an archeological precinct build in the IV century
A.C., we willhave a panoramic view of this magnificent ceremonial and administrative centre
which was considered by the Incas a holy village. We will learn about the life and rituals of its
ancient inhabitants and admire its typical pyramidal building, very
characteristic of sacred pre-Hispanic edifications which were adored in the coast of Perú.
COLONIAL LIMA. The Peruvian Viceroyalty was the most important one in the Spanish Empire
and Lima was its capital. The highlights of its historical centre are its architecture and the
urban design of the city, found in the old streets filled with colonial houses adorned with
Moorish-style balconies. Our trip includes the Paseo de la República (Promenade of the
Republic), Plaza San Martin (San Martin Square) and the Plaza Mayor (Main Square), with their
different buildings: Palacio de Gobierno (Government Palace), Palacio Arzobispal the
(Archbishop’s Palace), the Basilica Catedral (Cathedral Basilica) and the Palacio Municipal
(Municipal Palace). In its historic centre we shall visit one of its most beautiful buildings, the
Museum of the Banco Central de Reserva, where we can admire Peru’s treasures: a fine
selection of objects made in gold, ceramics and textiles of its different pre- Columbian cultures,
ranging since their origins to Inca times (1). We will enter the monumental Convento de San
Francisco (Convent of Saint Francis), which displays the biggest collection of religious art in
America. We can admire the Choir Room and the Monks’ Library, the Sacristy, with its
collection of Zurbaran and Rivera paintings. The Big Patio of the Main Cloister, decorated with
sevillan tiles from the XVI century, its beautiful Moorish arches and its subterranean crypts
known as The Catacombs, where you will feel the presence of Lima's colonial past.
CONTEMPORARY LIMA: Visit to the most traditional residential areas in the capital: The Olive
Grove of San Isidro, Miraflores and Larco Mar, distinctive tourist centre of contemporary Lima,
and visit of a magnificent exhibition of jewelry and handicrafts from the different regions of
millenary Peru. Live and enjoy the feeling of cosmopolitan Lima.
