WHEN IT COMES TO
SAFETY, THERE IS NO
ROOM FOR COMPROMISE
A motorcycle helmet is not a novelty. Your helmet is a serious
piece of safety gear and should be carefully selected. While
we strive to make Harley-Davidson helmets great looking,
our primary concern is the protection they provide our riders.
Whether you’ve always worn a helmet or wearing one is
new to you, here are some basics you need to know in
order to optimize your safety and comfort on the road.

3/4 Helmets
Cover your ears and the sides
of your face to reduce wind
noise. Some can be fitted with
a face shield or a visor for
extra protection.

Full Face Helmets
Completely cover the head
and face, for optimal protection.
Equipped with a flip-up face
shield. Warm in the winter and
with a flow-through ventilation
system, comfortable in warm
weather, too.

Modular Helmets
A combination of the benefits
of full-face and 3/4 helmets.
Flip up the face/chin module for
easy on and off, and for full-face
exposure. Remember to always
ride with the module in the
closed position.

CHOOSE FROM THREE LEVELS
OF PERFORMANCE AND COMFORT.
1. THERMOPLASTIC
These helmets are made from
thermoplastic, a single-layer,
injection-molded material.
Due to its single-layer
construction, a thermoplastic
helmet requires a larger inner
impact liner, which in turn
increases shell size and weight.
Blade 3/4 Helmet Shown

2. FIBERGLASS
This material differs from
thermoplastic shells in that
it has multiple layers of fiber
cloth combined with layers
of resin. The strength of the
fiberglass weave allows for a
smaller inner liner, which is why
fiberglass shells are typically
lighter and more compact than
thermoplastic shells.

3. CARBON KEVLAR®
Manufactured using multiple
layers of carbonized Kevlar
fibers, along with multiple layers
of resin. Due to the combined
strength of both carbon and
Kevlar, less material is needed
to achieve maximum helmet
strength. As a result, carbon
helmets are significantly lighter
in weight.

YOU’RE ALWAYS ON OUR MIND.
FOR THAT REASON, ALL OUR HELMETS
MEET ECE 22-05 REQUIREMENTS.
Your safety on the road is of the utmost importance to
Harley-Davidson®. That’s why all of our helmets meet ECE
22-05 requirements. Safe gear for safe riding is what our
customers deserve.

The “One-Touch Integrated Sun Shield” is an internal tinted,
retractable shield that deploys quickly and easily with the
slide of a lever to provide immediate relief from sunshine
and glare. With the Sun Shield, deployment and retraction
is instantaneous, with one finger. That means you can travel
without the hassle of stopping to add or remove a tinted face
shield depending on light levels.

PERFORMANCE
®
EVERY HARLEY-DAVIDSON
HELMET IS A TOUGH CHOICE
While it might seem like there are as many helmets to
choose from as there are roads to ride, all helmets have four
major components: a rigid outer shell, an EPS (Expanded
Polystyrene) impact-absorbing liner, a chin strap retention
system, and padding for fit and comfort. All Harley-Davidson®
helmets meet ECE 22-05 requirements.
Rigid Outer Shell
Distributes the force of an impact
while resisting penetration.
EPS I mpact-Ab sorbing Liner
Foam liner crushes to absorb
the energy of an impact.
Comfort Padding
Along with the retention
system, helps keep the
helmet in place, therefore
providing the proper fit.
D HELMET BROCHURE.indd 6
Retention System
Should be snug, yet comfortable.
Always fasten while riding.

fit
make sure your helmet measures up
Proper fit is vital to the performance and effectiveness of any
helmet. Remember: all helmets fit differently, so always try on
a helmet before you purchase it. Ask your local dealer to help
you choose the helmet that’s right for you.
find the proper fit
Using the steps below, try on various sizes of helmets
until you find your perfect fit. Proper fit is vital to the
performance and effectiveness of your helmet.
r
STEP one:
Put the helmet on and fasten the chin strap comfortably snug. It should
not be easy to slide a finger between your chin and the strap. And if
there is space between your brow-line and the inner lining, or you’re
able to roll the helmet forward and off your head, try on the next
smaller size.
STEP two:
Move the helmet from side-to-side
and front-to-back. You should feel
your skin and scalp move as the
helmet moves. The helmet should
fit as tightly as you can comfortably
wear it, because the helmet’s inner
liner will compress with use.
STEP three:
Wear the helmet for at least fifteen minutes prior to purchase to ensure
there are no uncomfortable pressure points. If you do experience
discomfort, try on a helmet that is a larger size or another style. If
you wear eyeglasses or sunglasses while riding, bring them along
and wear during the 15 minute test time to ensure they fit inside the
helmet without irritating your ears or the bridge of your nose.
STEP FOUR:
Once you find a helmet that fits properly, check your range of vision
to the left, right, up and down to insure no part of the helmet
obstructs your field of vision.

CARE
REPLACE YOUR HELMET EVERY 3-5 YEARS
• M
anufacturers and Helmet Safety Schemes recommend helmets be
replaced every 3 to 5 years, depending on use. Glues, resins and
other helmet materials break down over time, and hair oils, sweat,
cosmetics and the sun’s UV rays can add to helmet deterioration.
• R
emember, a helmet is designed for only ONE impact. If a helmet
is dropped or suffers any impact, it should be replaced immediately.
Any impact may fracture the outer shell or compress the impactabsorbing liner.
MAXIMIZE THE LIFE OF YOUR HELMET
NEVER
• E
xpose a helmet to chemicals or excessive heat, as this may
degrade the protective properties, even if damage is not visible.
• H
ang a helmet on a motorcycle’s mirror, turn signal or sissy bar,
which may damage the impact absorbing liner.
• U
se solvents or chemicals to clean any part of the helmet or shield,
as they can destroy protective coatings and compromise the
structural integrity of the helmet.
• U
se a dry cloth to clean debris from a face shield as you might
scratch the shield.
ALWAYS
• Before riding, be sure chin straps are tightened properly and not frayed.
• Check that visor screws and the face shield are firmly secure.
• Use mild soap and water to wash the outer shell.
• C
lean the shield with warm water and a wet, soft, lint-free cloth
immediately after dirt accumulates.
• Hand wash the internal liners with mild soap and allow to air dry.
• Use compressed air to clear helmet air vents and channels.
TWO YEAR WARRANTY
All Harley-Davidson® helmets are backed by a limited two-year warranty.
Refer to warranty information included with each Harley-Davidson®
helmet for warranty details and limitations.
