THE
HISTORY OF
WHG GIVING
Wisconsin Hospitality Group, LLC (WHG) is a local franchise organization that owns and
operates more than 100 restaurants throughout the state of Wisconsin: 82 Pizza Huts and
36 Applebee’s employ more than 4,000 people. Through local campaigns and generous
customer donations, the company has raised more than $2.8 million dollars during the
last 15 years and continues its philanthropic efforts each year.
WHG was founded with a steadfast commitment to taking care of its guests, employees
and communities. The leaders had a vision for an innovative restaurant-management
company that provides quality dining experiences for its guests, while generating
opportunities for employees and managers, at all levels, to give back to the communities
within those that they live and work, and that vision continues to guide the company
today. Most recently, WHG has created WHG Cares, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation to
centralize their giving efferts and allow for tax deductible donations.
Wisconsin Hospitality Group has always maintained a dedication to giving that
has provided more than $2.8 million dollars in funding and support to various
organizations and causes.. Throughout the last 16 years, the WHG franchise
restaurants, Applebee’s and Pizza Hut, and its employees throughout
the state have donated hundreds of volunteer hours to run
campaigns in our local markets.
Based in Waukesha, WHG Cares and WHG make it a priority to keep campaign costs down
and to provide 100% of campaign net proceeds to its charitable partners. Throughout the
last 15 years, WHG has been able to raise and donate more than $300,000 each year in
combined gifts to local charities including Children’s Hospital, World Hunger Relief, Honor
Flight, ProHealth Care and One Heartland. These donations were made possible by both
the generosity of guests and the hard work of all WHG team members
™
WHG’s business and community-based values have earned it a nationwide reputation for a
commitment to philanthropy and recognition as both a state winner and national finalist
for the National Restaurant Association’s Restaurant Neighbor Award, which awards
restaurants for providing outstanding community service and involvement and has
won numerous awards for community involvement from it’s franchise partners.

In 2015, through the efforts of our team and the generosity of customer
donations, the company raised $304,963 in combined gifts. We were honored
to again support children’s causes through our partnerships with Children’s
Hospital of Wisconsin and Camp Heartland. We expanded our gifting programs
with the ProHealth Care partnership in 2014 in our support of breast cancer
research and screening. Our most recent campaign addition is our Hut Food
Drive, which allows us to raise food donations for local food pantries
state-wide near our Pizza Hut locations.

DIFFERENCE
GIFTED MORE THAN $1.4 MILLION TO CAUSES
Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin utilizes the monies WHG raises each year for
dual purposes, to support an Endowment Fund that provides ongoing support
in perpetuity and a Usage Fund in which WHG allocates support to several of the
programs throughout the health system.
HIT THE LINKS FOR KIDS has grown exponentially over the past 15 years, becoming
the cornerstone of the annual Applebee’s fundraising campaign. It is a highly
anticipated event for all WHG employees, partners, vendors, friends and
Children’s Hospital stakeholders. The company’s four-week sister campaign,
APPLES FOR KIDS, is hosted by each of WHG’s 36 Applebee’s restaurants.
Guests are encouraged to purchase a paper apple for $1 or more to show
their support of Children’s Hospital charities.

In addition to the support of the golf outing and APPLES FOR KIDS drive,
team members donate their time and resources throughout the year to this
worthy cause. They host car washes, bowling events, volleyball tournaments,
AFK walks, and much more to raise awareness and funds for Children’s Hospital
of Wisconsin. Every member of the WHG organization is passionate about
getting involved and making a difference in the lives of children. A phrase
that can often be heard throughout the campaign is, “It’s for the Kids!,”
because that is truly the motivation behind each dollar raised
and a source of pride for all.

SUPPORTING CHILDREN IN NEED
MAKING A

IMPORTANT CAMP DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS
WHG’s Pizza Hut restaurants are proud to support One Heartland in its mission to
provide national camp programs to children facing significant health or socially
isolating conditions. Pizza Hut has helped One Heartland fund its foundational
program, Camp Heartland, for the past sixteen years.
Since 1993, Camp Heartland has hosted one-week camps for children from
across the country affected by HIV/AIDS. The camps have provided a safe haven
for these children to experience social acceptance, psychological support and a
whole lot of fun at minimal or no cost to the families.
Camp Heartland serves children and youth ages 7-15 either infected or directly
affected by HIV/AIDS. This is a national program, serving participants from 20
states. These one-week camps provide a place where complete acceptance and
freedom from social isolation is the norm. Participants can enjoy many outdoor
activities such as canoeing, fishing, archery, climbing wall and swimming. Other
activities offered include arts and crafts, drama, evening programs and an all
camp dance.
The cost to participate is determined by family income. Generous support is
provided by donors to allow children with financial constraints the ability to
attend camp.
Wisconsin Hospitality Group and its Pizza Hut restaurants, in combination
with the company’s new foundation, WHG Cares, raised $68,325 during
their 2015 Share Your Heart campaign, which ran April 26th through May
31st.

The proceeds raised will support Camp Heartland, which provides children
affected by HIV/AIDS the ability to enjoy an exciting and progressive
summer camp program. In 2015, the restaurants raised more than $68,000
which supported the funding of a new handicap-accessible dock so that
children of all ages and abilities would be able to fish and enjoy the water
at camp. Since 2000 campaign funds have totaled more than $950,000.
“WE COULDN’T DO WHAT WE DO WITHOUT PIZZA HUT’S GENEROSITY, WHICH

RAISING MONEY TO FIGHT WORLD HUNGER
Throughout the duration of the campaign, funds are raised through
customer donations at all 82 WHG Pizza Hut locations, both online and in
restaurants. Customers have the opportunity to donate in $1, $3, $5 and $10
increments, which can all help to feed an entire classroom of children for a
day, in a needy area of the world.
According to the United Nations, there are 795 million people around
the world who are hungry. As a franchise of one of the world’s largest
restaurant companies, we believe it is our privilege and responsibility to
make a difference in the lives of others less fortunate who are hungry
around the globe. In 2007 as Yum! approached a 10th anniversary, they
decided to align their franchise system around a global crisis that we
were well positioned to address – hunger relief. Yum! and the Brands had
a longstanding commitment to hunger in the U.S. through our Harvest
program.

those in need and save the lives of millions of people in remote corners of
the world.

GIVING TO EMPLOYEES THAT ARE IN NEED OF SUPPORT
All current full-time or part-time employees of Wisconsin Hospitality Group
are eligible to apply for grant funds. Employees do not have to contribute to
the fund in order to be eligible for grant awards. Grants are solely awarded
based on availability, need and fit.
IN MEMORY OF A SPECIAL PERSON, MEAGHAN RATH
In 2015, the first year of the fund, the company raised more than $16,000
and donated $3,000 to employees in need. The funds collected are held
in an account so that the company may respond quickly in time of need.
Wisconsin Hospitality Group has always maintained a dedication to giving.
Throughout the years, the company has developed several gifting / donation
programs that have provided more than $2.8 million in funding and support
to various organizations and causes.
The company is now proud to introduce our newest employee only gifting
program called the Meaghan Fund. This program is unique to our other
charitable programs because it is developed to provide assistance to our
own WHG employees who are in need of financial assistance due to a
catastrophic event. The Meaghan Fund employee grant program raises
100% of funds through employee payroll deduction contributions or
one-time donations.
The Meaghan Fund was inspired by Meaghan Rath, a special young lady
who battled cancer for many years and always showed courage and strength.
WHG supported Meaghan’s parents, Ken and Kate Rath, both Pizza Hut GMs,
during the very difficult time and provided financial assistance and flexible
work schedules so that they could support their daughter and tend to
Meaghan’s health issues. The support and assistance provided to the
Rath family is the first of many employee grants provided to
WHG employees in need.
