Courageous Choices, Elegant
Aging
We’ve all heard, “Growing old is not
for sissies.” Yes! It takes courage to
age successfully, “elegantly”! As we
age, we want to add to the number
of “chapters” in our “life’s book,”
but too often we dread those later
chapters as a time of inevitable
decline and increased vulnerability.
Supplied with some tidbits of wit
and wisdom from scholars like
anthropologist Angeles Arrien,
researcher and storyteller Brené
Brown, positive aging teachers Ken
and Mary Gergen and physician
George Vaillant, reflect on your
accumulated personal wisdom,
explore and discuss topics that will
ignite your courage to challenge the
pervasive and debilitating view of
aging as synonymous with decline,
and kindle a deeper appreciation
of this very special time of life.
Potential discussion topics include
living a purpose-filled life, honoring
your “authentic self,” preventing
“psycho-sclerosis” (hardening of the
“attitudes”), healing damaged or
broken relationships, maintaining
“generativity” and creating a legacy
that will be cherished by future
generations. Participants will
connect with their deepest wisdom
gifts and clarify what they want their
“elegant elderhood” to be and what
steps they can take today to make it a
reality tomorrow. First day attendance
is important for the group dynamic; no
late registrations for this class. (12 max)

ANN ANTHONY “knew her stuff . . . I hadn’t

—Joy Through Movement student Sophia Silva
Joy Through Movement: T’ai Chi Chih®
T’ai Chi Chih® (pronounced tie chee chuh) was developed in 1974 by
American Tai Chi master Justin Stone as a gentle, easy-to-learn adaptation
of the ancient and more esoteric T’ai Chi Chuan. T’ai Chi Chih® (literally,
knowledge of reality) is a Chi Gung discipline, a moving meditation, a
system of exercises, a means of self-cultivation and an aid to greater
health and longevity, with only 19 movements and one pose completely
focused on the development of the intrinsic energy the Chinese call “chi”.
Students commonly experience immediate physical health benefits such as
increased energy, lower blood pressure, better quality sleep and increased
agility and balance. In addition, students have reported clearer thinking, a
marked reduction in stress and greater well-being in general after only a
few weeks of regular practice. Enjoy the benefits that only live instruction
by an experienced and accredited T’ai Chi Chih® teacher can give. Through
class discussion, explore the powerful connection between the mind, body
and spirit to generate emotional, physical, spiritual and mental balance and
enhanced health. (15 max)
Ann Anthony has been an accredited T’ai Chi Chih® teacher since 1976.

Creede Repertory Theatre —
Magic at 9,000 Feet!
Creede, CO (population
500) is nestled at 9,000
ft. in the spectacular
San Juan Mountains and
was once a silver mining boomtown
that attracted colorful characters
like Bob Ford, Calamity Jane and
Soapy Smith. These days, Creede
attracts another colorful bunch—
artists and audiences traveling
to experience the award-winning
Creede Repertory Theatre, now in
its 51st season! So, how does a tiny
mountain town sustain a theatre
for 51 years? The magic is in CRT’s
repertory format: a visitor to Creede
can see many different shows in just
a few days. Get a glimpse into the
magic and madness of the Creede
Repertory Theatre’s challenging and
exhilarating process of producing
seven shows in just three months.
Students will have a meal with
Creede Rep company members,

The History Room
We should always keep our
promises, right? In this dark,
fantastical comedy Steve made a
promise to kill his best friend Helen,
if she descends into dementia like
her mother. Now, 20 years later he
must choose, navigating the many
faces of Helen’s illness, her stubborn
caregiver husband, her estranged
daughter and the ghost of his own
son, who is hell-bent on Steve doing
the bloody deed. With breathtaking
moments of magical realism, The
History Room explores honor, loss,
the integrity of memory and who
should decide how it ends.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Lying, cheating, double-dealing
and utterly hilarious! Based on the
popular 1988 film, Dirty Rotten
Scoundrels is a con-man comedy
set on the French Riviera. There’s
Lawrence Jameson, a stylish swindler
portraying a foreign prince to get
his hands on ladies’ jewels, and
Freddy Benson, a scruffy fraudster,
who collects donations towards his
“grandmother’s” hip-replacement.
The tiny French town isn’t big
enough for the both of them, so the
first to swindle $50,000 from the
beautiful heiress, Christine Colgate,
can stay while the other must ship
out. This battle of cons will keep
audiences laughing on the edge of
their seats while humming David
Yazbek’s delightfully jazzy score.
Kind of Red
Creede Rep’s favorite redhead
stars in this laugh-out-loud farce.
When Rick, a professional jazz
trumpet player, has hit rock
bottom—he’s off the wagon, every
note he plays sounds wrong, and
his former fiancée is marrying
a neurosurgeon—he sends a
desperate prayer to Saint Lucia for
guidance. The universe sends him
another memorable redhead to
transform his life into a chaotic,
hilarious, 1950s sitcom. Kind of Red
explores the desire for fame, the
passion of performance and the
longing for connection.
The trip will include additional costs
for theatre tickets, transportation,
food and lodging (one night).
Registration for the class must
be made by June 30 in order to
plan trip logistics. A sheet with
trip logistics is available at the

am always happy and joyful and centered when it is done.”

Joy of Photography
field
trip
As busy people, our
appreciation of the
ordinary, everyday world
can quickly become
routine and visually boring. We drive
to work and see the “same old, same
old,” missing the beauty along the
way. We take a trip to some exotic
place to awaken our senses, and
upon returning home we see those
old familiar surroundings with fresh
eyes and with joy and delight the
thought comes: “Oh, I’d like to take a
picture.”
Having a camera can give you
permission to act like a kid again, and
photography can serve as a bridge
Moods of Spring: Sputnik by Robert
for the recognition, realization

and exploration of your curiosity,
imagination and your own creative eye. Discover new ways of perceiving
and of abandoning habitual ways of seeing and judging your own work and
what you expect of a “good photograph.” Play with light and form, texture,
color and movement and learn new ways to use the camera’s controls with
practical “how-to” hands-on experiences. Bring your camera to class.
