A Message from our Principal

Hello Cougar Families
I have to say that my first few weeks at KHS have been incredible. I have met lots of students and
parents and can truly say Kempner is a great place to be. You should be fully engaged with all things KHS
now that we are back to school, from the homework, tests and all the activities and events at KHS. I hope
that you had the opportunity to attend our Open House. I appreciate your efforts to remain connected and
involved with your student’s life at school. It is so important for us to work together in partnership with the
parents and community to provide the best for all our students to ensure their success after High School.
From my perspective, the school year is off to a great start. There are many wonderful things happening
here at Kempner. Fall sports are off and running, the fall play has been cast, and we are looking forward
to the upcoming fine arts events later on this semester. Make sure to follow us on twitter, check the website
or check your email for updates for upcoming events here at KHS.
We gave all the students the yearly expectation talks on the third day of school. I will post the PowerPoint
on the website for you to see. A few of the key items we spoke to the students about were; highlights from the student code of conduct,
digital citizenship, and most important of all how to be a successful Cougar. One item I wanted to tell you about as parents is to make
sure that your student gets plugged in here at school. We have numerous clubs and organizations your student can join. This is a great
way for them to get involved with the full High School experience and meet new people. If they are making connections here at school
then they are more likely to be successful in High School.
Please accept my thanks to all parents and students for a very smooth opening of the school year. Opening the school year is
truly a community effort. I appreciate all you do for us, and I know we are going to have a great year.

Project Graduation is an all-night party,
sponsored by parents and students who want
to provide a fun and safe place for all KHS
seniors to spend the night of their graduation.
Fundraising is done by the Pro Grad group
during the school year. Various fun projects
(Flamingo Flocking, class T shirt and planner
sales, fashion show, Rockfest, car washes to
name just a few) are done to raise money,
all in the name of a safe graduation night for
Cougars in the class of 2015.

This summer we sent one of our amazing students, Mimi, to leadership camp. She was
totally surprised to not only hear the name of her high school announced not only once but
twice. At the opening ceremony they announced Kempner as one of the top 4 Pacesetter schools
in the Houston area because of the amount of money that was raised for the Friendship Walk.
Kempner also received recognition at the conference as one of the International Outstanding
Chapters of the year!
I want to personally
thank everyone that has
supported the buddies in
the past two years. This
was a huge honor for them
as well as Kempner to be
recognized internationally
and I am so lucky to
work with such amazing
professionals that are
helping foster inclusion and
acceptance of all students.
Many Thanks!
