NFPA 2013 EDITION SCOTT PRODUCTS
SCOTT AIR-PAK AND ACCESSORIES
NFPA 1981 AND 1982,
2013 EDITION
When the call comes in, there is one SCBA trusted more than any other by firefighters and emergency
responders throughout the world. The Scott Safety Air-Pak is the most trusted, durable and easy-to-use SCBA
in the fire service because only Scott Safety uses redundant safety features, has a low cost of ownership and
is firefighter-designed and -tested. Plus, the Scott Safety Air-Pak SCBA is the only SCBA to meet the stringent
requirements to be labeled “Made in the USA.” It is no surprise that for over 80 years, hundreds of thousands
of firefighters have relied on the Scott Air-Pak every day.
Building on this tradition, Scott proudly offers a new platform of products which meet the requirements
established in the 2013 Edition of NFPA 1981 and 1982 Standards.
2013 EDITION NFPA 1981/1982 STANDARDS HIGHLIGHTS
• Increased facepiece lens durability requirements through two additional tests to measure facepiece
performance against high temperature, flame and radiant heat
• New voice intelligibility requirements to eliminate the subjectivity of the testing and enhance overall
intelligibility using new test protocols:
•S
peech Transmissibility Index (STI) for improved repeatability and reproducibility in the test results
• Mechanical communication performance test protocol
• Amplified communication performance test protocol
• End-of-Service Time Indicator (EOSTI), or low air alarm, has moved from 25% to 33% of the cylinder’s
operating pressure
• All PASS devices have a universal sound regardless of the manufacturer
• NFPA committee worked with NIOSH to establish minimum performance and approval requirements
for Emergency Breathing Support Systems, which were previously not approved for use
AV-3000 HT
FACEPIECE
Driven to meet the rigorous requirements of the 2013 Edition NFPA 1981/1982 Standards,
Scott Safety designed the AV-3000 HT facepiece, a platform enhancement to the Scott Safety
Air-Pak, the highly durable, comfortable and most trusted SCBA in the industry. The facepiece
is based on the industry-leading AV-3000 facepiece with SureSeal platform, and incorporates
next-generation material technology to enhance user experience and meet the stringent NFPA
2013 Edition Standards.
BUILDING ON TRUST
The Scott Safety fire service-proven SureSeal technology is a reverse reflex sealing surface
designed for enhanced fit and comfort. The U-shape of the reverse reflex seal maintains a
continuous circumferential seal around the user’s face, allowing the AV-3000 HT to flex with
every move.
THERMAL DURABILITY
The AV-3000 HT meets the facepiece requirements set forth in the 2013 Edition of the NFPA
1981 Standard for high heat and flame and radiant heat by utilizing new lens and bezel materials.
These new materials provide enhanced thermal durability and enhanced wearer safety by
ensuring the facepiece stays under positive pressure when exposed to the heat and flame loads
measured under NFPA 2013.
MAXIMUM VOICE INTELLIGIBILITY
In response to the voice intelligibility tests—one for mechanical communication and one for
electronic, or amplified, communications—included in the 2013 Edition Standards, the AV-3000 HT:
E
xceeds the mechanical measurement requirement with the redesigned location of the
ducts, nosecup and voicemitter
U
ses two voicemitters to provide a sphere of intelligibility to those around the respirator
wearer, not just the individuals directly in front of the wearer
E
nables right- or left-side mounting for Scott Safety EPIC 3 voice amplifiers, with a
robust communications bracket attachment

AIR-PAK 75,
2013 EDITION
The Air-Pak 75 has been the leading SCBA used by first responders and municipal and industrial firefighters
since its introduction in 2007. The Scott Air-Pak has been trusted by more firefighters than all other brands
combined. The key reasons for its success are:
•R
edundancy of Safety Features – giving firefighters confidence in their life-saving equipment and
allowing them to focus on the critical job at hand.
• E ase of Use – provides firefighters a simple-to-use and easy-to-understand SCBA that requires minimal
training, increases operational efficiencies and reduces training costs.
• L ow Cost of Ownership – lower costs after initial sale through its rugged design, assembly and warranty
policy enables the department to direct valuable funding to training and other PPE rather than on
maintenance costs.
In order to meet the 2013 Edition of the NFPA 1981 and 1982 Standards, the following changes have
been implemented:
1. Unit must be used with new AV-3000 HT facepiece
2.A new PASS device equipped with the universal PASS sound (required by NFPA 1982, 2013 Edition)
3.The new 33% End-of-Service Time Indicator (EoSTI) along with a gauge and Heads-Up Display (HUD)
that reflects the EoSTI changes

AIR-PAK X3
The new Air-Pak X3 SCBA platform carries forward many of the features and designs
of previous Air-Pak models, including the redundant safety features, ease of use and
durability Scott Air-Pak users have grown to trust. The Air-Pak X3 was designed with
additional emphasis on enhancements to comfort, hose and wire management, weight
distribution, fire ground communications and serviceability.

What does it mean to
be Made in the U.S.A.?
According to the Federal
Trade Commission (FTC),
Made in the U.S.A. means
that “all or virtually all”
of the product has been
made in the United States.
That is, all significant parts,
processing and labor that
go into the product must
be of U.S. origin. Products
should not contain any—or
only negligible—foreign
content. In compliance with
this official definition, Scott
Safety is proud to declare
that the Scott Air-Pak 75
and Air-Pak X3 are Made in
the U.S.A.
EPIC 3
COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
A voice amplifier that exceeds the challenging NFPA 2013 requirements for Speech Transmission Index (STI),
the EPIC 3 communication system delivers never-before-heard voice clarity to fireground communications.
Answering the market request for communication and intelligibility improvements, Scott Safety introduces
the EPIC 3—the smartest, most durable and safest voice amplification communication system in the market.
The EPIC 3 audible and visual operational indications make this system the safest in the market, earning
STI scores above .65 and providing louder, clearer and more effective communication than other voice
amplifiers in the market. The EPIC 3 best-in-class battery life, at over 50 hours, more than doubles that of
the most popular models in the market.

ACCOUNTABILITY
PAK ALERT PASS DEVICE
Scott Safety offers a suite of accountability
products that begin with the Pak Alert PASS
device. NFPA 1982, 2013-compliant, the Pak Alert
monitors and alerts for man-down situations. The
2013 Edition of NFPA 1982 requires a standardized
sound for man-down situations, so users will
notice a difference in the sounds emitted from
the latest PASS devices. All Scott Safety Pak Alert
PASS devices that are compliant with 2007 or
2013 Editions of NFPA 1982 may be upgraded to
activate the Pak Tracker locator functionality.
PAK TRACKER FIREFIGHTER
LOCATOR SYSTEMS
To complement the Pak Alert, Scott Safety
offers Pak Tracker firefighter locator systems.
With time-proven technology, the Pak Tracker
will notify remote users of a man-down situation
via the HHR (hand-held receiver). The HHR
is also a directional receiver that assists with
directing rescue teams to the down personnel.
The Pak Tracker locator utilizes 2.4 GhZ radio
transmissions to assist with indicating the best
path to the down personnel.
SEMS II
SEMS II is the latest in SCBA telemetry from Scott
Safety. The SEMS II includes all of the Pak Alert
PASS and Pak Tracker locator features but also
provides a redundant network to provide PASS
and low air notifications to command, and sends
evacuation requests to interior teams, reducing
radio traffic during emergency conditions. The
SEMS II utilizes a patented self-healing mesh
network and the SEMS II is compatible with
the entire Scott Safety accountability suite of
products. A High Rise Repeater assists with
extending the range of the mesh network as
needed in high-rise or long-distance operations.
Scott also has a Graphic User Interface (GUI) that
may be viewed by command personnel to monitor
personnel on the fire ground.
Responding to the need for
smaller, lighter SCBA, Scott
Safety created the 5.5
Air-Pak SCBA. By increasing
the pressure in the cylinder
to 5500 psig, Scott Safety
was able to maintain the
traditional form, durability
and capacity of the standard
cylinder while offering an
up-to-12% reduction in weight
and profile. The 5.5 cylinders
are available in 30-minute,
45-minute, 60-minute and
75-minute durations and
compatible with the Air-Pak
75 and Air-Pak X3 SCBA.
To facilitate integration
into the fire service, Scott
Safety worked with leading
manufacturers to ensure the
cylinders work with existing
seats and brackets already in
the market.

CYLINDERS
FOR USE WITH SCOTT SAFETY SELF-CONTAINED BREATHING APPARATUS
SCOTT SAFETY CYLINDERS
Over the years, breathing air cylinders have been providing SCBA users with a supply of fresh air. The original cylinders
were made of steel and quite heavy. But today, advances in technology have enabled cylinders to become much lighter
and less burdensome to the SCBA wearer. Scott offers a complete assortment of cylinders to meet the needs and
demands of all SCBA users – aluminum cylinders for infrequently used SCBA to carbon-wrapped cylinders for daily
use. In addition, Scott Safety offers cylinders in 30', 45', 60' and 75' durations (a Scott Safety exclusive).
5.5 CYLINDERS: INTRODUCING THE LIGHTEST AND
SMALLEST CYLINDERS USED ON SELF-CONTAINED
BREATHING APPARATUS
The best way to understand the needs of Air-Pak SCBA users
is to simply listen. Scott Safety did just that by visiting SCBA
users from across North America. The participants included
fire chiefs, SCBA technicians, safety officers and firefighters.
It was not exclusive to the fire service as representatives from
the military, general industry and law enforcement were also
included. The overwhelming attribute that users requested was
a reduction in weight followed closely by a reduction in profile.
The engineers of Scott Safety determined the best manner to
accomplish this was to increase the pressure of the cylinders
to 5500 psig, which created the new 5.5 cylinders. The result
is a cylinder that has more than a 10% reduction in weight and
profile in a traditional form familiar to SCBA users. Another
benefit to the 5.5 cylinder offering is the ease of integration
into your department without the need of costly infrastructure
changes. Scott Safety has worked with leading Truck Seat and
SCBA Bracket manufacturers to ensure these products work
with the existing products in the market. The construction
continues to be an aluminum liner wrapped with layers of
carbon fibers and fiberglass all sealed with a protective epoxy
resin coating which makes the cylinder easier to clean. The 5.5
cylinders are available in 30' 45', 60' and new 75' durations.
The overall result is a lighter Air-Pak SCBA that reduces fatigue
of the wearer, increases productivity and decreases injuries.

EPIC 3
COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
LOUDER, CLEARER COMMUNICATIONS
Answering the market request for communication
and intelligibility improvements, Scott Safety
introduces the EPIC 3—the smartest, most durable
and safest voice amplification communication
system in the market. The EPIC 3 audible and
visual operational indications make this system the
safest in the market, earning STI scores above .65
and providing louder, clearer and more effective
communication than other voice amplifiers in the
market. The EPIC 3 best-in-class battery life, at
over 50 hours, more than doubles that of the most
popular models in the market.
Submitted for NFPA 1981 2013 approvals, the EPIC
3 passed the heat and flame test, high heat and
flame test, radiant heat test and the 30-minute
tumble test, and holds IP 66 and 67 ratings. The
EPIC 3 is backwards compatible to work with NFPA
1981, 2002 and 2007 SCBA.

convenient service history tracking mechanism.
Extended Product Support
Service parts are typically available well beyond the warranty period and we
continue to provide technical support for legacy products.
Opportunity for Upgrades
Scott Safety offers a path to extend the life of many products, when feasible,
that includes upgrading our Air-Pak SCBA to current NFPA standards and the
backwards compatibility of facepieces to previous NFPA standards.
THE SCOTT SAFETY SERVICE MODEL
At Scott, we recognize that each customer may have different service needs.
Some prefer working with our local authorized service centers while others
would rather have a dedicated technician onsite. Whatever your needs, we
have a service solution to accommodate your requirements.
Our service model consists of three tiered levels.
Factory Service
Scott has expansive service support resources to deliver direct service,
technical call center support, field level technical support, technical training,
warranty parts replenishment program, and service documents. Our factory
service team supports our extended service network on a daily basis and is
closely involved in every facet of our service programs.
Direct Service Technical Support
The Scott Safety Direct Service program provides departments with a
dedicated in-house Scott technician to support their entire SCBA fleet.
Some of our Direct Service customers include the Fire Department of the
City of New York (FDNY), the St. Louis Fire Department and the Denver
Area Fire Departments.
Field Level Technical Support
This program offers access to dedicated field service specialists that support
and train within a geographical area. This option provides onsite support on
an as-needed basis.
AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTERS
Scott Safety has Authorized Service Centers available in the Americas and
abroad. Each facility provides a wide range of services, including warranty
support, part replacement, annual functional tests, facepiece fit testing,

SMART FILL
AUTO CASCADE SYSTEM
MAXIMIZES STORAGE
AIR UTILIZATION WHILE
MAXIMIZING TIME AND SAFETY.
Fully automatic, the Smart Fill Auto
Cascade System is an easier and more
efficient way to cascade. It is simple to
use and maintain, so it requires minimal
training and frees the operator to perform
other tasks while guaranteeing maximum
air is pulled from the storage cylinders.
Easily added to any unit, the system works
with or without a compressor and on both
stationary and truck-mounted units. This
flexibility makes it an ideal fit for those
who are ready to switch to auto cascading
or anyone planning to add a new
compressor or breathing air system. It can
also be combined with Scott’s RevolveAir
fill station to fill SCBAs even faster.
PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS
• Automation saves time and maximizes air
• Small footprint and only weighs 26 lb.
One output line to
cylinder fill station
• Pneumatic driven (no electric power)
• Modular—easily added to any unit
Four inputs from
storage banks
A SIMPLER, FULLY AUTOMATIC
WAY TO CASCADE.
S MA R T F I L L A UTO C ASC ADE SYSTEM
GUARANTEES MAXIMUM AIR
The system automatically gets the maximum amount of air
out of a storage system with no chance of operator error.
This is done by automatically pulling from the storage
cylinder with the lowest pressure until the SCBA cylinder
has reached the target fill pressure.
PNEUMATIC SYSTEM
BUILD THE SYSTEM THAT MEETS YOUR NEEDS.
Create a new, complete breathing air system
or add the Smart Fill to any of the following
air sources:
• Stationary compressor • Storage cylinders
• Truck-mounted or
• Cascade air truck
mobile compressor
Smart Fill does not require any electric power. If there is
a loss of power, the system will remain fully operational.
EASY TO LEARN, USE AND MAINTAIN
Very minimal training is required. Operators only need to
know how to fill a cylinder in normal fill station operation.
Easy-to-access components also make it simple to service
and repair.
Add the Smart Fill Auto Cascade
System. Fully automatic, it makes
cascading easier and more efficient.
FLEXIBLE MOUNTING
Cased in a simple black box, the system is small enough to
be mounted on both stationary and truck-mounted units.
It also works with or without a compressor and can be
easily added to units already in the field or in production.
ADDRESSING YOUR NEEDS
Combine with the Scott RevolveAir fill station and
you can fill your cylinders even faster.
Working with firefighters, industrial safety professionals
and other breathing air system users, it became clear that
it was important to find an easier and more efficient way to
cascade. The Smart Fill Auto Cascade System was designed
specifically to fill that need.
DIMENSIONS
• 14.5" L x 13.75" W x 7.25" H
(36.83 cm x 34.925 cm x 18.415 cm)

SAVES TIME AND COSTS
Since it works with your existing unit, the system and
maintenance is affordable. It also saves man-hours by freeing
the operator to take on other tasks rather than continually
monitoring the valves.
