Principal’s Prattle
20th and 21st July—
Star Lab.
Welcome back for the beginning of term 3. It has been a very cold and wet start to the
term but the children have settled in well and are showing great enthusiasm towards their
learning. We are preparing for a busy term that will end with the school musical in the
last week of term. The children are already in full swing with practice.
12th August—School
Closure.
8th-11th Nov—Grade
5/6 Ballarat Camp.
Welcome
I would like to officially welcome Luke Haustorfer to South St.
Luke has been appointed as our new Assistant Principal. He comes to us highly
recommended for his initiative in seeking ways to engage children with challenging
behaviours, building positive relationships with students, staff and the community and an
ability to be flexible, reflective and proactive in a range of settings.
Please make Luke welcome and introduce yourself to him.

Melbourne
Shopping Trip.
Next Wednesday and Thursday we are going to have the Star Lab come
to visit our school. The star lab is an inflatable planetarium. The children
will spend an hour in the Star Lab. This will be a springboard for Mrs.
Commerford in Science as she is focusing on the area of Space this term.
I would like to thank Mrs. Mandy Wiggins (Canteen Co-ordinator) for
donating the funds from the canteen profits so that all children are able to attend the Star
Lab.
Crossing on Fowler Street
Just a reminder about the crossing on Fowler Street just down from South St.
Last term we had a number of children who didn’t use the
crossing and put their lives in danger.
Could parents please talk to their children about crossing
roads safely? If there is a school crossing or pedestrian
crossing close by, it is important to use it.
This is for the safety of students and parents. The children
will be reminded again at assembly.

Grade 3/4 Coonawarra Camp
On November 16th-18th the grade 3/4s will be going to Coonawarra farm resort for an
exciting, action packed couple of days. The farm is set on beautiful bushland acreage with
many team building and fun activities. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to build
relationships with other students, participate in confidence building activities and engage
in team activities.
The cost of the camp is $270. A payment of $55 was due on 24th June for those paying by instalments.
Could parents please ensure that the money is paid through the cash book in the classroom and not
directly to the office, so that the classroom teachers can keep track of payments.

BOOKCLUB REMINDER
LUNCH TIME COMPETITIVE SPORTS
This term we are holding a Lunchtime Competitive Sports
Championship for the 5/6s. The sport the students are competing
in is Netball. The four house colours play off against each other
with the House Captains organising the teams, referees and
scorers. The students referee and score all of the matches
themselves which helps further develop skills and
understanding in the sport of Netball.
Tuesday lunchtime saw the first round of our 5/6
Competitive Lunchtime Netball Championships.
This week we had Blue House taking on Green House.
In a fantastic opening match Green House took
home the win with some sharp shooting from Georgia
and fantastic attacking ball movement from Makiah.
Blue House put up a great fight through the
impressive interceptions of Darcy and a brilliant
performance from Paige in both defence and
offence.
Final Score: Green House 7 defeated Blue House 2.
Round 2 next Tuesday Lunchtime @ The Gym-Yellow House versus
Red House.
