Pastor’s Report:
1. This Sunday is Confirmation Sunday. Eleven young people will Affirm their faith in the Rite of
Confirmation. They are: Bryce Allen Anderson, Melanie Violet Doll, Hailey Marie Ebert, Hannah
Elizabeth Ebert, Klara Grace Fansler, Emily Ann Fox, Cora Josephine Greene, Logan Daniel Johnson, Mikayla Leanne Johnson, Abbigail Lucille Stener, Timothy Robert Thompson. Please pray for
these young people as they Affirm their faith, the faith into which they were Baptized.
2. I will meet with the second year students for the last time tomorrow. My thanks to the Parents, Mentors, Small Group leaders and our Congregation for their love and support for these young people
3. I met the other evening with Matt and Katelyn Bethke. We discussed Baptism. Matt and Katelyn
have a 1 ½ year old son, Kaden. We will baptize both Kaden and Katelyn on May 1 st. It will be a festive event. Matt became a member here a few years ago with his Parents Duane and Patti Bethke.
4. I have started to meet with the couple’s whose weddings will be upcoming soon. May 28, Sydney
Larson and Dustin Schjenken. June 11, Helen Stone and Donald Osborne.
5. Since we last met, we have finished Lent, celebrated Holy Week and Easter. I have officiated at
Rebbeca and Rob’s wedding and three funerals, Vernon Teske, Ruth Bottolfson, and Katie Fox.
6. I still need a couple of delegates for the Synod Assembly in Eau Claire on May 21. All day, one day.
7. A week from tonight I shave!!! Please help if you can. It is for a great cause! Right Janet? (She
agrees.)
8. Baccalaureate is May 18, 7:30pm at Peace Lutheran in Dresser.
Director of Ministries Report: None
Committee Reports:
Education: The education committee met on Sunday. The education committee has invited church council
members to visit the Sunday school rooms so they can see firsthand how the classrooms operate. This is great
opportunity to for the students to also learn more about how our church runs as well. We asked council members to come to the classrooms (and opening/closing) for 5-10 minutes & introduce themselves to the class and
explain what the church council is & what it does. Hopefully the council members are able to get a better understanding of the challenges that our teachers might face on a weekly basis. If you have any questions about
this, please let me know.
VBS: Report from Brenda Schell. As far as I know, we are doing just the old version of Vacation Bible School.
It will take place August 7th-August 11th. Our theme is Crocodile Dock. (Bayou - swamp theme)
We will begin on Sunday right after second service - serve lunch and do Bible School afterward.
Then Monday-Thursday nights: Dinner starting at 5:30. VBS running from 6:30-8:00.
We will invite the kids going into kindergarten- current 4th grade invited as participants.
Kids completing 5th-8th grade be in asked to take charge of a group - travel with the kids from one station to
the next. I will meet with them ahead of time to give tips and suggestions on group management. (positive
feedback, etc. ) Older kids will also be assigned to each station as a helper / gopher.
For the most part, I intend to have adults lead the stations since they do require some planning and preparation gathering of materials, etc.
I would love help finding groups of families to provide the meals each night. I am more than happy to help by
bringing part of the dinner - just can't be the one to help serve it. (That would be another great place to use our
older kid volunteers.) I will create a list of dinner ideas that go with the theme.
We did not charge a fee when I was running it in the past and I think that we could get back to that idea. I simply put a letter out explaining what it typically costs per child to run our VBS program and asked for families to
make a donation. We usually had positive cash flow.
I also plan to have kids bring in items for the food shelf as a donation as well. They could be part of a noisy
offering that following Sunday to raise money for whatever group we would like to focus on for the week.
I would like to get a decorating committee and a clean up committee. It would be great to decorate on July 30th
so that the kids would see it and get excited about coming the next week.
I will continue doing some searching for ideas, etc. - and then work on getting adult volunteers for the various
stations.
Stations include: arts & crafts / music / movie theater / games So, I will be in search of:
At least 4 adult helpers to lead stations
4 responsible older youth - to be station helpers / gophers
4 responsible older youth to manage groups and transport them from station to station
Volunteers to decorate on July 29 or 30
Volunteers to clean up on Thursday night - August 11th.
Evangelism: Wanda Heffron will chair Evangelism.
Finance: None
Property: The roof on servant hall is complete.
Work on the basement continues. Looking for two new doors on the south side of church.
City wide insulation will be removing only the bad insulation and leaving what is good. Then blowing in
new insulation to get the R40 value.
The roofer gave us a quote of $1160 to remove both chimney's and fix the holes in the roof. Property
committee agreed to let them do the work. Started to discuss ideas for plants and landscape for in front of
the Church. Erik said the time capsule is being welded.
We looked at samples of the steel roofing.
Michael Doll made a motion to put a steel roof on the main Church structure. Seconded by Judy Weiss.
Motion passed. Insulation project and chimney project will be completed as the new roof is installed.

We recently received the following note:
Hello, I am enclosing a check for $100.00. This is in memorium of Russell Jensen
by his wife E. Mae Jensen.
My mother, Mae Norlander, grew up in Star Prairie. She was baptized, confirmed,
and married at West Immanuel.
My parents were married on June 28, 1942 by Rev. Carlyle Holte. It was his first
wedding at West Immanuel.
Years later my sister Caryl Mae Jensen and I, Constance Russ Jensen, were also
baptized there.
My mom stated her grandparents helped build West Immanuel as well as my great
grandparents and other immigrants.
Over the years many relatives have been married and buried there. Including my
grandparents Morris and Leona Norlander.
Thank you, Connie Dreger
(The memorial service for Russell Jensen was included with this letter. It has some color
photos as well as Russell’s obituary. He was raised in Cushing WI and at the age of 14,
he ventured to California with a friend “hoboing” by railroad, working odd jobs on the way.
In 1940 he returned to Wisconsin and met the love of his life at Kyle’s Koffee Kup in Osceola. They were married for 73 years. The service is posted on the bulletin board at Servant
Hall)
