Académie
BACH
Festival 2015
Choral
singing course
August 15-22, 2015
Marine Fribourg & Nicolas Renaux, Choir Directors
Flore Merlin, accompanist
S
ince 1997, L’Académie Bach’s early music festival
in Arques-la-Bataille has drawn a loyal following
thanks to its bold, innovative, and sophisticated
programming. Many of the “greatest names” in baroque
music today were nurtured during their creation and development by the system of residencies we have had in place
since our establishment.
For the 2015 edition of our festival, to bring the public
even closer to the heart of the artistic process, we are creating a new Choral Music Internship that will not only
occur at the same time as the festival, but will truly be IN
the festival itself. As a participant, under the direction of
expert choir directors, you will have the chance to work on
pieces directly related to those performed in the festival’s
concerts. You will interact with the festival’s artists, who
will join your instructional team and share their musical
research with you during rehearsals. Finally, at every possible opportunity, interns will take part in performances
side-by-side with invited artists, concluding the internship
by performing in a final concert integrated into the festival
program on Saturday, August 22nd.
This internship is open to those at all levels: not only
seasoned choralists who wish to deepen their musical
knowledge through “informed historical practice,” but
also people seeking their start in choral music or who have
very little experience in the field.
Come attend AND participate in our 2015 festival, together with our invited artists: the Galilei Consort, Diabolus in Musica, Michel Alabau, Le Concert des Planètes,
Rémy Cardinale, L’Armée des Romantiques, Marco Beasley, Ensemble Daedalus, and Vox Luminis!
Program – Performance Repertoire
Planning
Gregorian chants; psalms of the Reformation;
the choral works of Roland de Lassus,
Jan Pieterszoon
Sweelinck, Claude Goudimel, Johann Christoph & Johann
Sebastian Bach, Robert Schumann, and Johannes Brahms
This internship is open to everyone, regardless of prior experience: interns will be divided into two groups, each with a maximum of 40 people. Sheet music will be provided before the start
of the internship.
Those pieces to be practiced over the course of the internship
have been selected to mirror the program of the festival as much
as possible. The schedule has been coordinated to allow interns
to attend as many concerts as they wish, and in certain cases,
even to take part. Accordingly, each day’s schedule is tightly
packed at the beginning of the internship, but lightens with the
start of the festival itself :
Saturday 8/15 @ 8:30 PM: Welcome and introductions
Days 1, 2 & 3: 7-1/2 hours of singing
Days 4, 5, 6 & 7: Three to five hours of singing
Final Internship Concert (open to the public): Saturday, August
22, 4:00 PM
Total of approximately 40 hours of singing
Festival Concerts
Registration
Your enrollment into this choral internship includes free
admission to the festival’s opening concert (La Messe de Rovetta
performed by the Galilei Consort) and closing concert (Moresca by Daedalus), as well as to the La Famille Bach concert to be
performed by Vox Luminis during the festival.
Admission to the festival’s morning concerts (The Psalm and its
Song) is free.
Due to the very limited number of seats available, normal
admission prices will apply for all remaining concerts (Sanctus
performed by Diabolus in Musica, Le Conte de Minuit by Marco
Beasley, and the Liszt and Brahms concerts by L’Armée des
Romantiques). You can purchase seats for these concerts directly from our website (http://www.academie-bach.fr) as soon as
festival reservations go on sale
To enroll in this internship, you must be a member of L’Académie
Bach.
