ix years ago Brian Kooperman was on the campus of
Bridgton Academy pitching his idea of starting a camp.
I had the pleasure of meeting “Koop” during the early
stages of Bridgton Sports Camp and knew right away it would
be a success. Growing up in the small town of Winthrop, Ma, I
never experienced or knew much about what summer camps had
to offer. After learning about what BSC was all about I wanted
nothing more than to help make camp a success.
to go back and help Koop and his
camp. It’s an amazing experience.
Since leaving BSC and Bridgton
Academy, I am the Head Coach
and General Manger of a Junior
Hockey program called the Walpole
Express. My programs mission is to
help young hockey players achieve
the dream of playing college
hockey. We have players at major programs across the country
and couldn’t be more proud of our players accomplishments.
During the summer time, I train college and pro hockey players
on the ice as they prepare for the upcoming seasons. Recently,
my wife and I gave birth to our second child and now enjoy the
life of having 2 girls, our dog honey, and just purchased a house
in Sharon Ma.
Koop would eventually hire me as Hockey Director. For me it was a
homerun, it gave me the ability to help kids learn, enjoy and develop
within the game of hockey. Hockey for me is more than just a game,
it is a sport where I learned hard worked trumped talent and the team
means more than the player. Bridgton Sports Camp allowed me to have
a new set of campers enjoy the sport that got me to where I am today.
Just recently at a Junior Hockey tournament I was approached
by a parent of a former BSC camper. She introduced herself and
I instantly knew who her son was from camp. She told me that
her sons experience at BSC and majoring in hockey brought
the love of the game back in his life and it sparked something
that couldn’t be stopped. He is now is his last season of Junior
hockey and will be moving on next year to play collegiately.
Reasons like this are why I would never turn down the chance
I certainly miss the atmosphere and campers of BSC and look
forward to coming up and visiting this summer!
