Principal’s Report
Dear Parents
Thank You and Farewell
As we race toward the end of Term 2, I would like to thank each and every
one of you for making me feel so welcome at Our Lady’s Assumption School
during Semester 1. It has been an absolute pleasure to be a part of this
community.
I have said it on many occasions, but I must say it again: your
children are absolutely delightful.
They are compassionate,
respectful, and full of energy and enthusiasm. I will miss them all.
Rest assured that I believe that you have entrusted their care to
some of the best teachers in Western Australia. They always have
the best interests of your children at heart and, as a professional
community, are moving in exciting directions to ensure even greater
successes are achieved for each and every child.
‘ TRUTH GIVES FREEDOM ’
‘The Scholar’
Please continue to support your School Board and P&F, as they do a
tremendous amount of work supporting the school in so many ways.
You would be surprised how much they would value even an hour of
your time when large events are taking place.

Yesterday, I received some beautiful leaving gifts from the OLA
community. I am deeply touched by the generosity and kind words
from everyone. I am sure that you will all join with me now in
welcoming Mr Barras back from his very relaxing Long Service Leave.
I know that he is eager to be back next term, and has been excited
to hear all about what has been happening over the past six months.

I wish you all best for the remainder of 2016, and also for the
exciting 50th celebrations being planned for 2017. Thank you for
letting me be a part of this awesome community! Good luck and
farewell.

Year 5
Congratulations
Joshua Cala, Year 6, has been selected to represent Western
Australia in the 2016 12s Football Team. This team will be
competing at the School Sport Australia National Championships in
Rockingham in August. Representing WA is a great honour, and a
stepping stone to senior and national selection.
Ermilio Lomma in Year 6 has been offered and has accepted an Early
Offer Academic Scholarship at Chisolm College. This is a significant
scholarship that begins in 2017 and lasts for the duration of six years
of secondary schooling. Being awarded this scholarship reflects the
great work throughout Ermilio’s primary school years.
Congratulations Joshua and Ermilio!
Funny Things Kids Say
A Pre-Primary child once asked me to tie his shoe lace. I ask,
“What’s the magic word?” and he excitedly replies, “Abracadabra!”
He was right, you know.
Enjoy a safe, relaxing holiday!

Challenge Expo
Thank you to the many families, students and staff who called in and had a look at the work being done by the students in the

participated in the program during Semester One, congratulations to you for your splendid work!

Sports News
Last Friday Years 3-6 competed in the OLA Senior Cross Country at Dianella regional Open Space in near perfect condition for long
distance. There was a change to our course this year and it allowed spectators to see the start, the middle and the finish for each
race. These changes were greatly received by all. A big thank you to all our teachers who ran their children and to those parents
who volunteered to stand around the course as marshals guiding our runners. A special thanks to D’Nell Thomas who was a great
support in setting up for our event. Congratulations to the following children who will receive their medals at Assembly tomorrow

Prayer for the Week
Hooray for holidays!
Thank you God for holidays,
And all the good things they bring
After you had created the world you rested,
So you know how good holidays are.
They are such a fun time
Help us to make them a happy time for our parents, too,
And for all the people we share the holidays with
Please keep us safe
Thank you, God, for holidays!
Amen

In 6G this Semester
In Year 6G this semester we have been doing challenging work and having fun while doing it. The things we have done this
semester are camp, sport , carnival and received our ministry badges and have had a great time with Mrs Simpson. The first thing
we would like to address is receiving the Ministry badges. The Ministries are Environment, Sport, Canteen/Library and
Events/Media. So far this year we have been to the Sacred Saints Tournament. There was netball and soccer. Mr McIntyre led the
soccer kids to victory, but unfortunately the girls didn't have much success. We also did other sporting events like the swimming
carnival, the Lightening carnival etc... The 2016 Camp was a big adventure to Fairbridge in Pinjara. We stayed for two nights and
three days. We did lots of activities like archery, rock climbing, abseiling, the flying fox, pool games and orientation. As a school we
have celebrated NADIOC week this week. We are proud to have this Australian background and our historic story. We celebrated
with fun activities and a fabulous assembly.
A special thanks to Mrs Simpson for being such an amazing Principal and for giving everyone such a fun time with the Gotcha
awards presented at each assembly.
