Forces are at work all around us. Discover what a force
is, and different kinds of forces that work on contact
and at a distance. We use simple language and vocabulary to make this invisible world easy for students to
“see” and understand. Examine how forces “add up”
to create the total force of an object, and reinforce
concepts and extend learning with sample problems.
Students will learn about balanced and unbalanced
forces, weight and gravity, magnetic and electrostatic
forces, and much more. Written for remedial students
in grades 5 to 8. Reading passages, activities for before
and after reading, and overhead transparencies make
both teaching and learning a breeze. Crossword, Word

rovide your students an
insight into the science of
the atmosphere and the effects of
humanities actions on the Earth
system. Global warming is an
important topic for students to
understand scientifically. It has become
a frequent topic in the news and civic discussions.
Students need to acquire a scientific understanding of the role
of human activities with regards to changes in the atmosphere
in order to make informed decisions about products and
lifestyle choices that affect the Earth system. A scientific
perspective on climate change will also help students separate
fact from fiction in popular accounts of global warming.

e have read that things gain
potential energy when they are
raised above the ground. The force
of gravity creates this kind of potential
energy. Other forces can give us potential
energy, too, by “pulling” on things. The force
pulling a stretched spring or rubber band
back together creates potential energy. This
is called elastic potential energy.

photosynthesis
Food molecules store chemical energy. Our bodies can change this chemical energy into

food by the process called photosynthesis.
Fuels also store chemical energy. Some common fuels are firewood, coal,

oil, and gas are called fossil fuels. These fuels come from plants that lived

Learn how you can improve the planet by identifying your carbon footprint. If students only knew the
causes and looming effects of global climate change,
they may think of it as something for them to worry
about. In these resources, students learn about how
they can help slow the rate at which our planet is
changing by becoming a part of the worldwide effort
to reduce the planet’s carbon footprint. Students will
learn about their own, their school’s, and finally their
community’s carbon footprint, by determining the
causes of climate change through carbon dioxide that
is released by human activities. Students will then be
able to calculate the extent to which changes in their
lifestyles can reduce their footprint. They can then
extend this base of understanding to similar changes in
their school and their community.

Streamlined Shakespeare
Peggy L. Anderson / Judith D. Anderson
INTEREST LEVEL 6 - 12
READING LEVEL 4
Now editors Peggy and Judith
Anderson have made it possible
for struggling readers to enjoy
the works of one of the greatest authors of all time. Their
Streamlined Shakespeare has
been designed for schools that
seek to adapt the traditional
curriculum to meet the needs
of all students. It can be used remedially in the special
education classroom and adaptively for regular education settings. This has been accomplished with a unique
format which sets this work apart from all other adaptations: Each play is presented in two parts—a narrative
(the story) followed by the play.
Often students have a difficult time understanding
content presented in a play format. A paucity of description deprives the reader of the story’s context so critical
to comprehension. Streamlined Shakespeare’s narrative
format presents the reader with an opportunity to understand the vagaries and complexities of the plot early
on. No longer can Shakespeare be considered beyond
instructional reach! For ages 12 and above.
Each play has its own reproducible workbook designed
to reinforce vocabulary and to enrich the student’s
comprehension of Shakespeare’s heralded works.
Answer key included.

three leveled books, each including more than 200
activities. The program offers a variety of activities in order to help students fully master each skill.
Worksheets have been designed to address the major
learning modalities (visual, auditory, and tactile/kinesthetic). Each of the three books is leveled, beginning
with the most basic grammar skills in Book 1 and
gradually increasing the difficulty level in Books 2 and
3. The reading level also increases from 1.0 to 3.0.
OVERVIEW—All three books are organized in the
same manner, making the program easy to use. Each
book contains a correlations chart featuring skill objectives so that teachers can easily reference specific skills
pertinent to their students’ needs. Each book contains
8-13 units. The beginning of each unit includes a
teacher page complete with instructions for motivating

A Step-by-Step Program
Teach students the writing process using the simple,
sequential steps in this complete program. The activities progress in difficulty from the first book to the
third. The series begins with writing letters and words,
moves to writing one and then two paragraphs, and
finally leads to writing several paragraphs in a specific
format. The books feature various writing prompts to
motivate beginning and struggling writers. Students
learn to organize their thoughts and understand the
writing process while building writing confidence.
OVERVIEW—In six units, each book teaches students
to write using the “Think, Organize, Write” method,
which incorporates the use of graphic organizers. This
method helps students organize and visualize their
writing, encouraging successful writing habits. The
editing process is taught as an integral part of the program and emphasized through lessons and checklists.
BOOK 1—“Think, Organize, Write” is introduced.
By the time the students complete the last unit,
they will be able to “think” of a topic and main idea,
“organize” their ideas, and put their ideas together to
“write” a paragraph. Covers letters of the alphabet, everyday vocabulary words, sentence writing, and simple
paragraph writing.
BOOK 2—Units begin with an idea inventory so
students can reference words or phrases to help with
brainstorming. The units continue with a review of
one-paragraph writing and then progress to writing
two paragraphs about general topics. In final practice
activities, students learn to put their own ideas together and use descriptive words to make their writing
more interesting.
BOOK 3—Units begin with an idea inventory before
moving to the three-paragraph process. The main
focus of this book is to teach students three types of
writing: descriptive, narrative, and how-to.
ASSESSMENTS—Progress charts, scoring rubrics,
and student writing checklists are provided to help the
teacher assess students’ progress and determine which
skills need to be reviewed.

Solving Word Problems with Pictures
INTEREST LEVEL 3–12 • READING LEVEL 3–4.5
Provides a Step-by-Step Process
Give students a foolproof strategy for solving word
problems with this complete math program. The
addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
problems are presented in 155 high-interest, “real-life”
stories. While solving the basic problems in this 160page, reproducible book, students learn and practice
a simple, six-step process that can be used to attack
any word problem. Stories are written at a low reading
level to accommodate beginning and struggling readers
and are appropriate for students of all ages.
FEATURES FOUR LEVELS—As students progress
through each level, new challenges appear. Level 1
begins with the most basic problems, which contain no
extraneous information to distract students. In Level
2, students identify the distractor in each problem
and choose the correct operation from two choices. In
Level 3, students choose the correct operation to solve
each problem from four choices. In Level 4, students
solve problems in a standardized test format.
STUDENTS VISUALIZE THE MATH—Students
visualize and draw a picture to represent each problem.
Creating a visual representation of the word problem
helps students clearly understand what the problem
is about. When students understand what a word
problem is about, they can plan an appropriate way
to solve it.

Word Problems in the Real World
• 160 Activity Sheets
• Teaching Instructions
• Answer Key
Help students master problem-solving skills through
real-world applications with this series of reproducible
activities. Students are exposed to examples of how
math is encountered in everyday life, whether it is
figuring out how much to tip in a restaurant or what
amount they can save on an item during a department
store sale. At the same time, students practice solving
word problems correctly using addition, subtraction,
multiplication, division, decimals, percents, and sales
tax. Each activity page includes an image of a sign, web
page, menu, receipt, newspaper clipping, or other item
that can be seen in real life. Students will solve math
word problems based on the real-life image.
ONE- and TWO-STEP PROBLEMS—Many math
word problems must be solved using two or more
steps. In this program, students ease into solving twostep problems. Two-step problems are broken into two
separate questions on one worksheet. Students must
use the answer to the first question to solve the second
problem. This method guides students who struggle
with math and makes the two-step problems easy to
understand and solve.
FOUR LEVELS—In Levels 1 and 2, students must
solve one-step problems and choose the correct
answer from a list of provided answers. In Level
3, students must solve two-step problems and
choose the correct answer from a list of provided
answers. In Level 4, students must figure out if
the problems are one-step or two-step problems,
and then solve the problems and write the answers.
