JaguarRSR confirms full participation in the
2011 America LeMans Series Season
JaguarRSR announces its plans for the 2011
American Le Mans Series to run two JaguarRSR
XKR GT cars. One of
the entries will see
open-wheel
drivers
Bruno Junqueira and
Cristiano Da Matta
kick off their GT
racing careers on the
JaguarRSR full season
roster. P.J. Jones has been resigned to pilot the
second XKR. The first race of the ALMS will
be televised on ABC March 20 at 12:30 PM.
E-Type – 50 Years of a Design Icon
Jaguar has commissioned a beautiful
„Collectors‟ Edition‟ coffee-table book to mark
the 50th anniversary of the car that stopped the
automotive world in its tracks – the „E-Type – 50
Years of a Design Icon‟ charts the remarkable
story of this revolutionary car and is available for
online purchase. Launched at the Geneva Motor
Show in 1961, the E-Type was the fastest
production car in the world, capable of an
incredible 150mph. Costing half the price of its
rivals, the E-Type was the car to be seen in (as
were Brigitte Bardot and Steve McQueen). The
144-page hardback book contains material from
the
Jaguar
Heritage
archives,
newly
commissioned photography, and features
interviews from the likes of motorsport drivers
Jackie Stewart and Stirling Moss and
comedian/car guy Jay Leno.
Speed Channel
“Speedmakers”.
has
a
new
series,
Alan Talbott recommends viewing a TV
program that showcases Jaguar‟s manufacturing
facility in Birmingham, England. This show,
“Speedmakers”, airs at several times on the
Speed Channel, but suggestions are March 11th at
3PM and March 19 at 11 PM. I took a look and
it is worth a view!
Thanks go to Don Hart for arranging a very
topical speaker for the
February 28 AJS monthly
meeting.
Todd Gotia
(accompanied by the
lovely Cindy…his wife)
from Sun Trust Bank
presented some successful
investment strategies and
portfolio benchmarks with
those in attendance.

basis. My preference is to communicate via a
phone conversation.

By June Mindrup, Health & Hospitality Director
The stormy weather and tornadoes interfered
with
attendance
at
our
last
get
together...however, the speaker commanded rapt
attention with his insights in the financial
investment field. Am sure this will be covered in
other parts of this issue...but as far as the writer
is concerned, it was a great presentation.
Maryanne Blackford
underwent
a
thyroidectomy and would you believe, six days
later she was in prime shape at the February 28th
meeting. In fact, she and husband Joel are
planning a trip with their Granddaughter to go to
Florida for a week during Spring Break. Just
goes to show you, it's impossible to keep a good
gal down.
Bob Hicks underwent hernia surgery on
February 28th and we're happy to report
everything went well. He's glued and stitched
together, according to wife Beverly's report.
Bob, with his great sense of humor quipped
"They even gave me a Brain Scan and found my
I.Q. jumped from l70 to 250!!! An inquiry as to
how caregiver Beverly was doing got the news
she just found out she is diabetic. Hopefully this
condition can be controlled orally.
Marlene and Don Hart returned February
22nd from a 22 day stay in their Florida condo.
A good time with friends Makki and Jean Paul
made the trip extra special.
Judy Scarborough will be going to California
for 2 weeks in the near future. Please stay away
from the mud slides, fires, earth quakes and other
catastrophes that state is known for...
Gayle Hale spent 4 days car pooling, cooking
and playing with 3 grandchildren. She had such
a great time and didn't even need recovery time.
Gail, you don't look old enough to have 3
Grandchildren!
Dick and Alice Thyer are sporting a new (to
them) 2008 Jaguar XJ Super V8, silver with
black interior. If you see it on the road, I expect
all you will see are the tail lights!!
Bob McNair is doing OK in the Golden
Living Home located at 3888 La Vista Road
(behind North Lake Mall) in Tucker Georgia
30075. Remember him in your prayers...and
remember, he likes to have visitors.
Wil Sommer caught a 32 l/2" - 22 pound
striped Bass. This was enough to win the
tournament. Congratulations!
Norma Reichert spent an 8 day trip in
Florida. The highlight of the trip was the
February 13th High School Class Reunion at The
Villages. This was the 55th (?) reunion which
happened to be over Valentine's Day. Norma,
did you recognize all your former classmates?
Quiz: Does anyone know the AJS'er
who purchased their first car from winnings
playing Ping Pong?
Another clue...car
purchased was a 1942 Buick. Answer will
appear in the next issue!
Activities
Kim Daly, Activities Director
In February, we attended a showing of
Toulouse Lautrec art work at the High Museum
of Art, mostly in the form of lithographs. It was
an interesting exhibit, which also included
explanations and samples of the lithographic
method incorporated by the artist. We planned
this activity for February thinking the weather
would not be very good for a car event…well,
we couldn‟t have been more wrong. It was an
absolutely perfect day for a drive.
We were not able to get into the Saint
Patrick‟s Day parade this year. Hopefully, we
will have more interest next year, and we can
register early.
The Amelia Island Concours d‟Elegance is
scheduled for March 11-13th. Our very own
“Mr. Maserati”, Ivan Ruiz, has been invited to
show his 1970 Ghibli Spyder. I am sure you will
join me in wishing Ivan good luck while
competing in his class. The Amelia Island
Concours always has a dazzling array of
fabulous cars to ogle.
If you have the
opportunity, please join us on Sunday the 13th on
the lawns of the Ritz Carlton for this
extraordinary display of fine cars.
This month, our activity comes in the form of
a tech session at the home of Ivan and Myrna
Ruiz on March 26th at 10:30 AM. You will find
all the details about this event in Myrna‟s article
in this newsletter.
Be sure to RSVP to
[email protected] by March 23rd, so we will
be sure to have plenty of doughnuts and coffee
on hand.

Are you ready for spring to arrive? Are you
ready to go for a drive? If that is the case, you
can drive your car to beautiful Dawsonville for
the first tech session of the year! The March
tech session, including doughnuts and coffee,
is scheduled for Saturday, March 26, at 10:30
AM.
The speaker will be Mr. Todd Puryear, a
master at paint-less dent removal and he will
demonstrate his skills.
The tech session will be held at our home
just off GA 400 near the North Georgia Premium
Outlet Mall. This is an excellent opportunity to
learn how small dents are fixed without requiring
fillers or paint. Also, you will get to see Ivan‟s
new garage and the ladies will have a good time
visiting before we all head out to lunch. The
tech session will be held in conjunction with the
North Georgia Jaguar Club.
