for attending this year’s YMCA Dinner
and Auction event! This year’s theme,
“Together We Can! Let’s Make It Happen!” brings in the importance of working
together as a community to make Ottumwa a better place and not just talking
but taking action to get the job done! We all share a community that is rich in
resources, talents and opportunities and it is our exciting task to make the most of
them each and every day!
We believe that the YMCA brings a positive quality of life to all those who
become involved in it. We want the Y to be accessible to all persons in our service
area. Our goal is that no one is denied access to programs or membership due to
the inability to pay for them. Each year, this campaign event brings the community
together and raises money to ensure that this important goal is met!

Because of the 2012 Strong Kids
Campaign we were able to:
• In 2012, we provided over $125,000 in financial assistance
and subsidies for over 900 youth, teens, adults and seniors.
• Our Summer Food Service Program provided over 9,800 hot nutritious meals to children of our community, free of charge, over
the coarse of the summer to ensure that no child went hungry.
• Healthy Kids Day served over 250 individuals in our community.
Over 25 community organizations collaborated with the YMCA
to help educate our families in living an active, healthy lifestyle.
• 47 children participated in the Lifetime Wellness Program losing
an average of 2-4% body fat, 3-5 inches and learned valuable
lessons to build healthy habits for a brighter future.
• Provided new handicap accessible fitness equipment, along
with new treadmills, ellipticals, & pilate reformers machines to
offer the best in healthy living options to all members of our
community.
• Our new PROWD program has served 75 special needs adults
from our community with participants losing, on average, over
8 lbs. and 8 inches and building friendships for healthier more
social lives.

Let’s Make it Happen!
The 2013 Strong Kids Campaign kicked of with face-toface calling. We had over 50 volunteers making phone calls to
try and reach our goal of $88,000! The YMCA has had some
awesome events this year to help with the campaign also. We
had a Noon Tea event, Golf Tournament, Girls Night Out, Pancake Breakfast, 5K St. Patty’s Run and several Pizza Ranch Tip
Nights. All proceeds from those events went directly to the
Strong Kids Campaign. Our annual Dinner and Auction is our
wrap up of the campaign each year and we are pleased that
you are here to help us celebrate and push us closer to our
goal!
All of the money raised for the campaign goes towards
helping kids, teens and their families in our communities who
would like to participate in YMCA programs but cannot afford
to do so. This includes scholarships for membership and youth
programming. We count on the support of people like you to
help continue these vital programs because Together WE CAN…
