UKRAINIAN FESTIVAL - Hearthstone By The Bay
Ukrainian Festival
N
ow in its 13th year, the Toronto Ukrainian Festival continues
to be one of the most anticipated events of the season, and this
year's weekend festival showed why. Bloor St. West was closed off
to traffic between Runnymede Ave. and Jane St. on September 18th, 19th
and 20th to make room for the annual celebration. More than 250,000
people visited the festival this year, allowing them the opportunity
to discover Ukrainian culture and share the Ukrainian spirit at North
America's largest Ukrainian street festival. There was fun for everyone
that included vendor kiosks with delicious authentic Ukrainian food and
beverages, beautiful souvenirs, activities for kids such as face painting
and carnival rides, and much more. Always the highlight of the weekend
festivities, the colourful parade marched along on Saturday morning.
This year's Festival Parade Marshall was businessman and philanthropist
James Temerty. Also in attendance was former prime minister the Right
Honourable John Turner. As always, there was non-stop entertainment
with local, regional, national and international performers that included
dancers, vocalists, musicians, martial artists and even some belly dancers. Many thanks to all the volunteers and sponsors for their support of
this wonderful festivity.
