Stabiliser straps allow optimal
positioning of the backpack.
These are easily repositioned on the shoulder
straps using a “Triglide“ buckle. Aircontact
models above 50+10 SL sizes also have two
different fixing points, depending on the back
length setting, in order to optimize the load
adjustor-strap angle.
Breathable padding
with special ventilating hollow chamber foam:
With every movement, a pump effect circulates air through the breathable Aircontact
cushions of this direct body contact system.
Extra air channel ventilation between the
back cushions is very effective. (on ACT Lite)

The anatomically shaped hip fins
are made from multiple layers.
The inner side has a layer of soft foam with
3D AirMesh lining for heightened comfort.
The firm foam on the outside is modelled to
the anatomic shape and transfers the load
to the hips. Side compression straps on the
fins regulate the load and increase stability.
On the compact ACT Lite fins this bilaminate
construction is perfectly balanced between
weight reduction and load transfer ratio.
Aircontact models designed to carry heavier
loads, maximise stability and load transfer thanks to the additional synthetic reinforcement in between foam layers.
Head molding
provides freedom of head
movement. Effective on models
Aircontact 50+10SL and up.
Contoured shoulder straps
with 3D Air mesh lining.
Vari-Quick system
for easy adjustment
to any back length.
The anatomic profiled X-frame
offers a balance of torsional rigidity and flexibility
to follow your body movements, and transfers weight
through it's perfect back fit.

All Aircontact models are fitted with
Deuter’s Vari Flex System,
leaving the generous hip fins fully mobile. The
Vari Flex hip fins follow even the most complex
movements allowing tricky sections to be negotiated without losing your balance – especially important when carrying a hefty load.

These athletic, sleek packs remain true to
their lightweight credentials:
with their minimal weight and purist, technical look, the ACT Lite models
are good-looking, light, yet reliable companions on any tour. Twin lid buckles and a stretch front compartment provide more options to store all your
kit. Front gear loops also mean you can easily attach a sleeping mat to the
outside. The slimline body of the pack and the compact hip belt allow plenty
of freedom of movement when trekking or mountaineering. The SL models offer sportswomen best in class carry comfort, thanks to the narrower SL shoulder straps with their double ‘Soft-Edge’ trim and conically shaped hip fins.

The heavyweight haulage specialist–
licensed to carry heavy loads!
Apart from the many clever details of the Aircontact Pro
series, which make for easy handling, the Vari Flex system
gives this pack the edge when it comes to carrying heavy
loads. Its mobile hip fins diligently follow every movement
you make, making even the toughest terrain passable without losing balance. The fins distribute the load evenly to
the hips, thus reducing fatigue, and providing freedom of
movement. The aluminium stays combine with the Deuter
Vari Flex to create a carry system that brings together the
critical performance qualities of stability, efficient load transfer, perfect load control and incredible flexibility.

S. I. Kang, Production Director at Duke for 13 years, discusses
important production details with his team.
Once the first prototypes have been thoroughly tested, product designers then decide on the exact measurements.
The tester template is then laid out in the scanning room,
digitalised and prepared for cutting.
“We have our manufacturing done at Duke. Not
because it is in Vietnam but because I have known
Mr. Oh for 16 years.”
BERND KULLMANN, DEUTER CEO
It all started with 35 sewing machines and a meeting at the Munich sports trade
fair, the ISPO. That is where Deuter’s Bernd Kullman and Mr. Oh from the Vietnamese manufacturers Duke met in 1994 and decided to work together. Now, in
2010, Duke is a 2,800 employee, highly specialised rucksack manufacturing
company that produces all of Deuter’s rucksacks and accessories exclusively.
Over the past 16 years, the relationship has developed way beyond the normal
supplier’s relationship; it has grown into a friendship with shared values of mutual
support and growth.
In this way, a system of quality control has also evolved, which has made a decisive contribution to the quality of Deuter’s products. With TÜV certified items such
as child back carriers and protector rucksacks for example, TÜV Germany regularly
inspects the materials and production processes in situ.
Medical insurance, employee representation, fixed holiday days, above average
pay, free lunch and performance bonuses for every worker – these are just some
of the elements that lead to successful staff retention and motivation. A certificate guarantees that no children work in the production line. The system creates
the very best conditions in which healthy rucksacks first see the light of day!
Mister Oh and his 2,800 employees manufacture
rucksacks of the very highest quality for Deuter.
During the cutting process, staff make sure there is little or no waste.
The next step in the process involves cutting the runs of
material to fit. Either by hand...
In spite of the most modern technology available, the majority of rucksack production is still done by hand. On 32 production lines, the 2,800 employees assemble as many as 221 components that can go into making a Deuter product.
... or with a computer guided cutter.
In two initial quality controls, all items are carefully inspected. These intermediate
controls guarantee durability and customer satisfaction.
A Deuter rucksack has up to 2
metres of zips, 3.2 square metres
of nylon fabric and 14 metres of
webbing – and as many as 221
individual components in total.
Before being packaged and dispatched, each and every one of the millions of rucksacks that
are made each year is inspected one more time.
The finished Deuter rucksacks are then packed and
sent out to 45 countries worldwide.
A bit of pleasure in between all that work: at midday, there
is a choice of three hot meals – free of charge!

Extra Long
Tall people can enjoy a perfect fit with our Extra Long
EL-models! Sports people
who are between 1.85 m
and 2.00 m tall often have
difficulty finding backpacks
that fit their longer backs.
Our favourite Deuter backpack models are
available to suit taller people with extended
back lengths by 6-9 cm. Overall, backpacks
in the Extra Long (EL) series have also grown
in terms of volume. Back systems, features
and details remain the same in the EL models
as they are in the standard models, however.
