then be applied each time you record a show:

• accept - Decides whether you’ll record first-run or repeats for a series request.
• close - Closes the recording defaults.
• start - Starts recording programs early or late.
• stop - Stops recording programs early or late.

• keep - Lets you decide when the show will be deleted.

RECORDED TV TIPS AND TRICKS
AccessEvo System & AccessEvo Anywhere
Currently AccessEvo allows you to schedule a recording even if you don’t subscribe to the channel.
If you ever have a recording fail on you, check to see if you subscribe to that particular channel (we have
already requested this to be fixed in a future upgrade).
If you are unsure of what channels you subscribe to email [email protected] or call
1-866-363-2225 and one of our friendly customer care representatives can easily check for you!
Another feature of AccessEvo is the ability to remove channels from displaying in your AccessEvo
Channel List. In the AccessEvo Main Menu, go to SETTINGS, press OK and scroll to CHANNEL LIST.
From here you can scroll to the desired channel and press OK to select or de-select the channel, this will
remove the channel from your Channel List and Grid Guide. This will help reduce recording channels that

Locking & Unlocking Programs
Locking By Channels Or By Rating
1. In SETTINGS, scroll to PARENTAL CONTROLS, and press OK.
2. Choose SETTINGS. You’ll be taken to the Parental Controls menu. Use the right arrow to choose
either TV RATINGS, MOVIE RATINGS or LOCK BY CHANNEL.
3. Each contains a list of the rating systems or a list of channels. Scroll to the format or channel you
want to control.
Lock the rating or channel by choosing it, and then pressing OK on the remote. When you lock a
rating, all ratings for more restrictive content are also locked. For example, if you lock the TVPG rating,
then the TV14 and TVMA ratings are also locked automatically, because these ratings are for more
mature audiences than TVPG. When unlocking, the reverse is also true.
If the V-Chip in your TV is enabled, you may see a black screen after tuning to a channel with blocked
content. No AccessEvo menu, flip bar, sound effects, or any other audio or video are shown or heard.
To correct this, change to an unblocked channel, or disable all V-Chip functions and use the parental
control features provided by the AccessEvo system to regulate viewing.
Turning Off Parental Controls

TV SETUP
If you have connected the AccessEvo unit to your TV with an HDMI™ cable, your TV Setup should
automatically select the correct resolution.
If you are using alternate cables, including an HDMI to DVI cable, you should select the highest video
resolution supported by your TV. The AccessEvo system automatically adjusts the video output to match
the broadcast format and the selections set in the TV SETUP. The video resolution options are 480i
(non-HDTV), 480p, 720p (default), 1080i, and 1080p.
If your TV is standard-definition, make sure 480i is the only box checked. All other video resolutions will
be output at 480i. You can still watch HD channels and they may look considerably better than their
standard definition counterparts.
SOUND EFFECTS
Allows you to set the volume level of the AccessEvo sound effects, including turning them off
completely.
FRONT PANEL
Allows you to set the brightness level of the front panel display on your AccessEvo Media Player.

standard-definition TVs, choose Standard (4:3) only. You’ll then be asked to choose how you want HD
content to display on your TV, either by letterboxing (putting black pillars on the top and bottom of the
content) or cropping the content to fit.
For Widescreen TVs, determine how standard content displays on your TV by first choosing Widescreen
(16:9) and then selecting maintain (displays standard content as-is), or stretch (stretches the standard
content to fill the TV screen).
RECORDING DEFAULTS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
GENERAL:
How many TVs can I hook up to the AccessEvo system within my home?
The AccessEvo systems supports 6 connected TVs. Other TVs can be supported through an analog
connection and stand-alone boxes.
Why is the AccessEvo system always turned on (lights on front screen)?
The AccessEvo system never turns off.
We would much rather see the channel number instead of the time on our front panel display.
Can this be changed?
Unfortunately it’s not something that can be done right now. You can use the AccessEvo system’s quick
ability to not only get the channel number, but current program and upcoming programs with the quick
menu bar (press OK or any of the arrow keys while watching a channel).
REMOTE:
Our remote has quit working properly. Any suggestions?
1. Always first check to see if your batteries need replacing.
2. Check if the remote is cleaned and nothing is blocking any of the buttons.
3. Check the area in front the AccessEvo system to ensure nothing is obstructing the remote’s path.
When direct-tuning to a channel using the number buttons, why is the tuning delayed?
If you are tuning to a channel there is an automatic 3 second delay while it waits for additional numbers.
If you would like to speed it up once you enter the desired numbers press OK.
RECORDING:
Will recording continue if the AC power fails?
No, the battery only powers the basic phone service during outages/power failures as phone is a lifeline
service.
I set a series to record with the following recording options: unlimited episode limit, till space
needed, and first run only. However, a first-run episode did not record. Why?
The system determines if an episode is first-run by checking its original air date on a specific channel. If
the episode’s original air date is within the last seven days, then it is treated as a first-run episode. If it’s
original air date is eight or more days ago, then it is considered a repeat. The system will not record the
episode because you set the option to record first-run only.
When I press record on my AccessEvo system, why don’t I see a red record light on the front
panel?
With the AccessEvo system the recording action is actually happening through the Gateway and does
not display AccessEvo system front panel. Recordings are displayed on the on screen guide.
Can I recover a deleted recording?
Currently, the AccessEvo system does not have this functionality available. You will look for an upcoming
episode to re-record.
How much can record on the AccessEvo System?
30
There is a 500 GB hard drive which is the approximate equivalent to 60 HD Hours or 250 SD hours. If you
are looking for more space you can add on an ESATA external hard drive.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Will the AccessEvo System automatically record a repeat of a show if the first airing fails to
record?
If you are recording a single episode (that is, you selected “record once”) and it fails to record, the episode
will not be rescheduled for recording. You must manually set it to record again.
If you are recording a series and the recording of a particular episode failed, the AccessEvo Gateway will
record a repeat of that episode but only if you tell it to do so. You can set the AccessEvo Gateway to
record a repeat of a show (shows that are flagged as a repeat) automatically if you select “repeats” for the
Accept: field in Recording Options. By default, “first-run only” is selected, which means the AccessEvo
Gateway will record the episode only on its first air date.
Sometimes, a station will re-air the same episode on the same day as its first air date, but at a different
time. To record this second airing, select “all” for the Timeslots: field in Recording Options. Because the
first air dates of the episodes are the same, the second airing is not considered a repeat.
Note: Many syndicated programs that are not truly first-run are not marked as repeats; they are treated like
first-run episodes.
CONFLICT MESSAGES
Conflict Message: New request overlaps previously scheduled shows. Cancel one set
Cause:
The subscriber tries to record a single show and all six tuners are programmed to record content during
the same time slot.
Action:
• Cancel new: Selecting this option closes the conflict note and continues with the previously scheduled
recording.
• Cancel a previously scheduled show or series: Selecting one of these options schedules the new show
and displays a schedule confirmation message.
Conflict Message: Watching (ch #) will stop one of these shows. Which one do you want to stop?
Cause:
All six tuners are already in use (either programmed to record content or watching a live TV show) at
the same time the subscriber tries to watch a seventh show.
Action:
• Stop one of the scheduled recordings: Selecting one of the stop options tunes to the requested channel
and either:
• Stops the recording if the selected show is currently recording and places the recorded portion in
Recorded TV.
OR
• Changes the channel on the TV if the show is live allowing the subscriber to view the redirected tuner
and displays the channel changed note on that TV.
• Don’t change: Selecting this option closes the note and goes full screen. The previous activity of
watching live TV or recording content resumes. If no prior activity detected, the screensaver is displayed.
31
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Conflict Message: New request overlaps previously scheduled shows
Cause:
The subscriber tries to record a new series and all six tuners are programmed to record content
during the same time slot.
Action:
• Recording existing: Selecting this option schedules all episodes of the new request that do not
conflict with existing requests. The new request is placed at a lower priority than any existing
requests that conflict.
• Record new: Selecting this option schedules all episodes of the new request and places it at a higher
priority than existing requests that conflict.
• Cancel New: Selecting this option simply closes the note.
Conflict Message: We need to change the channel to begin recording
Cause:
A recording is about to start and all six tuners are in use with one of the tuners occupied by
streaming live TV. The above message is displayed on the TV streaming the live TV show. If more
than one TV is watching the same show, both are presented with the message and the first one to
act on it determines the outcome. The other TV would get notified that the show is being
preempted due to a programmed recording. If more than one TV is streaming different programs,
all TVs get this message and the first one to act determines the outcome.
Action:
• Record: Selecting this option changes the channel and begins the new recording.
• Don’t record: Selecting this option cancels the recording request for the upcoming show and the
channel is not changed so that the subscriber can continue watching the show.
Conflict Message: No space currently available for new request message
Cause:
This message is displayed when a subscriber requests a new recording and all attempts by the
AccessEvo Gateway scheduler to make more room are unsuccessful.
Action:
• Cancel new (timeout, default): Selecting this option maintains the existing recording schedule. The
new request will not be recorded.
• Schedule anyway: The new request is added to the recording schedule. If space becomes available in
the future, the show will be recorded. This option can be used so that the subscriber can schedule
the new recording and then take action to free up space.
Tip: The subscriber may have too many recorded and/or scheduled shows set to “keep until I
delete”. Changing some may free up more space.
32
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Conflict Message: We need to make room for your request
Cause:
The subscriber attempts to schedule a new recording (single or series) or change the recording
settings and there is not enough space on the disk to accommodate that request. The system will
need to make certain changes to the recording schedule in order to make room for a new request.
Action:
• Cancel request: Selecting this option cancels the request to record a new show and maintains the
existing recording schedule.
• Make room or accept: Selecting this option does the following:
• For previously recorded shows, this schedules new request(s) and alters the expiration date(s) for
the listed shows to either delete the shows immediately or to delete them sooner than planned
(as described in the message) to make room for the new request.
• Shows that are marked “keep until I delete” may also be included in the list for deleting sooner
than planned.
• Recorded shows that have expired are automatically deleted once the new show begins recording.
If the attempt to schedule fails, the “Cannot Schedule” note is displayed.
Tip: Have the subscriber free up more room by deleting some shows or changing the recording
options.
• For upcoming shows, this cancels the listed shows to make room for the new request. Note: Shows
that are marked “keep until space is needed” are not reported.
Conflict Message: Recording about to start. We need to change the channel to begin
recording
Cause:
A recording is about to start and all six tuners are in use. The tuner with the lowest priority is presented
with the above message. The priority is determined as follows
1. Recording TV (Highest priority)
2. PPV
3. VOD
4. Live TV (Lowest priority)
If there are two or more tuners occupied with two items of the same priority, the message is
presented arbitrarily to the TV watching one of those items.
Action:
• Stop one of the shows: Selecting one of the stop options changes the channel to that needed by
the scheduled recording.
• Don’t change: Selecting this option cancels the scheduled recording and closes the note.
AccessEvo SYSTEM:
Why is audio set to Dolby Digital by default when using HDMI?
It is expected that most TVs that support HDMI will also support Dolby. If Dolby is selected and the TV
does not support Dolby via HDMI, then the HDMI output will down-mix to PCM stereo.
33
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I use 720p as the default AccessEvo system resolution instead of 480i?
The AccessEvo systems use 480i as the default resolution and this can changed within your settings
menu.
Is the TV screensaver timeout adjustable?
Currently this feature is not available for adjustments.
The two timers that control the streaming timeout are the time between the last viewer activity (that is,
from the time the last button function was received by the AccessEvo system) and the length of time
the idle notice is displayed before being automatically dismissed.
• Idle Notice timer: This is the length of time between the last viewer action and when the note
appears on the screen. This is set to a value requested by your company. The default timer is 2
hours, 45 minutes.
• Idle Notice timeout: This timer controls how long the idle note should remain on screen before it
dismisses itself and stops the video streaming. The default timer is 15 minutes.
Why is there a TV screensaver timeout?
There are several reasons to take a break, such as:
•
Power saving: There is power savings when the system is not streaming, decoding and displaying
video.
• Tuner contention: Stopping the video stream frees the tuner. If a household has four AccessEvo
systems that stream continuously, that leaves two tuners for recordings. If three shows are recorded
in the same timeslot, a tuner will be “stolen” from one of the other AccessEvo systems causing
the streaming to stop and the screensaver to be displayed. If only one person is really watching TV,
a conflict message is displayed asking which show to cancel or which AccessEvo system to stop.
If the TV has timed out and stopped, how can I get back to Live TV?
Several buttons on the remote, for example the Live TV button, will activate live TV on the last-used
tuner. If the Power button on the remote has been set up to power on/off the TV, it will also be
detected by the AccessEvo system and Live TV streaming will be initiated (only if the IR sensor on the
AccessEvo system and the TV are in alignment). The Menu button will dismiss the screen saver and
activate the main menu. Otherwise, if the IR sensor on the AccessEvo system and the TV are not in
alignment, the TV will turn on Screen Saver.
EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE QUESTIONS:
How often is an external hard drive checked for errors?
When an external hard drive is connected to the AccessEvo Gateway to increase the storage capacity,
it is periodically checked for errors.
Whenever the external drive is plugged in or upon the start-up of the AccessEvo Gateway, the file
system is checked that it was shut down properly. If not, a disk check is performed. It is also performed
on every tenth start-up. The disk check normally just takes a few seconds on the file system unless
the journal is corrupted, in which case it can take minutes. The time depends on the extent of the
corruption and the size of the hard drive.
If my AccessEvo Gateway fails, what happens to my recording?
If the AccessEvo Gateway needs to be replaced, recordings cannot be recovered.
