March 1971: Mr. George Ely Russell's list of springboard ancestors for patriotic
lineage societies fails to mention two of equal importance. Mr. Russell needs to
be informed that the United Daughters and Sons of the Confederacy and the Jamestown Society are patriotic organizations on a par with his chosen Mayflower
Descendants and Union Soldiers in the Rebellion of 1861-65. Many Southerners
will challenge his list as being either so biased that he cannot recognize
the service of our ancestors or he is so indifferent to them that he failed to
mention them.

This is a very good little genealogical book concerning the Banton family

981 pages, 8~11, McBee hard cover binder, index. Order from
the author, Lotos Lakes, Brightwood, Virginia 22715. $30.00
The Skelton Family lived in England for many centures, especially in
Cumberland and York Counties. They came to America in 1629. The 1790
census lists at least six of these families in South Carolina. John Skelton
served in the Revolutionary War with an Independent South Carolina Company I
for which he was granted 200 acres of land on the Toogalow River. He married
Rebecca Harbour, daughter of Esaias Harbour of Virginia. Eleven children
were born to this couple near Hartwell, Georgia. The book deals primarily
with this particular family and descendants; however, it gives much information on other Skeltons •. Specific references of legal proof for patriotic
societies are cited.

-55-
Data in the form of census, birth, marriage, death, military and family
Bible records are given. An amazing amount of genealogical information is
in this well organized book.
VOLUME II, ready in 1971, deals with the Pennsylvania migration of Wilson
families into Ohio. Additional records from Indiana, Iowa and Kansas will
be given. It is priced at $5.00 or $9.00 for the set.
ROHRBACH GENEALOGY compiled by Lewis Bunker Rohrbaugh (1970), hard cover,
557 pages plus 58 page index. Order from the compiler, Sea Street,
Rockport, Maine 04856. $20.00
Descendants in America today spell their name: Rohrbach, Rohrbaugh, Rohrback,
Rorabaugh, Rorabeck, Rohbach, Roorbach, Rohrbough, Rorabacher, etc. So, if
you have a Pennsylvania-Dutch background don't p~ss up this extensive genealogy
of the Rohrbach family. It contains almost all known Rohrbach immigrants to
America, inc luding seven of the nine who came between 1709 and 1754 and the
first four generations for the other two immigrants, plus the descendants of
over 100 Rohfbachs who came to America from 1825 to 1900.
Included is research done in Germany and Switzerland for 1500-1800 by the
Austrian genealogist Dr. Karl Friendrich von Frank, F.A.S.G. and research
done in Switzerland by Mr. Julius Bil~eter.
THE FAMILY TREE OF DANIEL PERRRY, 1704-1970 by Hubert L. Perry (1970),
soft cover, 219 pages, index. Order from the author, P. O. Box
414, Caldwell, Texas 77836. $10.00.
(
This is a very fine work prepared, we presume, by a non-professional
genealogist. A hypothesis as to the origin of the name PERRY is very neatly
proposed, along with a unique description of early England. Perrys in the
Chesapeake Bay region of Virginia, Delaware and Maryland have been thoroughly
researched with the beginnings of the Perry family in America duly noted.
Perrys in what is now the state of Mississippi and their becoming subjects
of the French and Spanish Kings are recorded. A subsequent chronology of the
author's family describes their spread to states of the Southwest and other
parts of our nation.
AH INDEX TO THE VITAL RECORDS OF BOSTON (1630-1699), compiled by Sanford
Charles Gladden (1969), 188 pages. Order from the compiler,
1034 Spruce Street, Boulder, Colorado 80302. $10.00.
This is a compilation of the Ninth Report of the Record Commissioners of Boston
which listed the births, baptisms, marriages and deaths in Boston for the
period 1630-1699, indexed only by surname. The compiler has broken this report
into alphabetized categories (births, baptisms, marriages and deathB). It is
indexed by given names as well as by family names. From his research many
blank spaces have been filled. The approximate number of entries are: births 9265, baptisms - 2736, marriages (brides and grooms each) - 908 and deaths - 1584.
DAVIDSON - DAVIDSON FAMILY RESEARCH, compiled by Mildred F. Roberts (1971),
66 pages, soft cover, bibliography Order from the compiler,
3833 Lynwood Avenue, Orange, California 92669. $7.50.
The Davison-Davidson families are well presented in this "Big ll little book.
It should be of much help to those researching these people. A unique
feature of this publication is the bibliography and the giving of credit
and sources for the material used. The book has a historical aspect which
should make it more attractive for some readers.

NAME INDEX, including place index, to Old Days in Nashville, by Jane Thomas
(1897) and NAME INDEX of Early History of Nashville by Lizzie P.
Elliott (1911), compiled by Mike Marlar (1970), 20 pages, soft cover.
Order from John D. Pearson, 2698 Fessey Court, Nashville, Tennessee
37204. $3.00.
Indexes of these books fill a much needed requirement by owners and libraries.
Researchers who have heretofore passed up these books will appreciate this aid of
over 2200 entries.
SHORT, AN EARLY VIRGINIA FAMILY, compiled by Josephine Short Lynch; edited by
Katherine B. and Herbert A. Elliott (1970), 432 pages, index, hard
cover. Order from Mrs. John F. Lynch, 3711 San Felipe, Houston,
Texas 77027. $10.00.
This is a well prepared genealogy of the Short Family of Virginia. It is the
story of a typical American family, starting with the early colonists in Virginia.
This family sent pioneers into Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Illinois, Missouri,
Texas and other western states. Many related families are well documented.
HATHCOCK FAMILY HISTORY, Volume VII, by Douglas W. Hathcock (1970), 44 pages,
soft cover, index. Order from the author, 11002 Vivian Drive, N. W.,
Huntsville, Alabama. 35810. $10.00.
The Hathcock family is almost extinct in England, its place of or~g1n and exists
only in small numbers in America. This history concentrates on the family during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Historical evidence reveals that
Hathcock families are descended from Thomas Hathcock who arrived in America in
1635. Varients of the name are: Haithcock, Hathcoat, Hathecok, Hathcox,
Heathcock, Hethcote, etc.
JAMES DIAMOND (1781-1849) And His Descendants, edited and compiled by Laura P.
Marbut (Mrs. Robert S.) (1970), 48 pages, soft cover. Order from the
author, 245 Oglethorpe Avenue, Athens, Georgia 30601. $5.00.
The story of a brave pioneer family with its roots in Georgia and Texas is
typical of many southern families. The history covers the period from the
Revolutionary War to the Civil War and through the Reconstruction. The hardships, sorrows, and love of family as well as the brave spirits of these people
of the South is an ever fascinating story.
LAFCADIO HEARN'S AMERICAN DAYS, by Edward Larocque Tinker (1924), 382 pages,
illustrations, index, hard cover. Republished by Gale Research
Company, Book Tower, Detroit, Michigan 48226. $15.00.
Patricio Lafcadio Tessima Carlos Hearn (1850-1904) was born on the Isle of Santa
Maura, off the coast of Greece, and died a citizen of Japan. ~n outstanding
author, journalist, critic and teacher, he lead an unconventional life and developed
an ornate style and an impressionistic method for treating strange and exotic
themes. Using quotations from manuscripts, books, letters and newspaper articles,
the biographer has put together an interesting story of Hearns in the United States.
THE FEDERAL CENSUS OF 1850 FOR MONROE COUNTY, ORIO, edited, arranged and indexed
by Wilma S. Davis (1965), soft cover, 603 pages. Price $7.50.
THE FEDERAL CENSUS OF 1860 FOR MONROE COUNTY, OHIO, transcribed, arranged and
indexed by Wilma S. Davis (1967), soft cover, 594 pages. Price $12.50.
Both of these books are exceedingly well organized and arranged. Order from
Wilma S. Davis, 6311 Joyce Drive, Camp Springs, Maryland 20031.

I
Sarah Ellen Kitchen in the twentieth year of her age on the 15th September, 1881.
Died on the 13th of June 1878, Robert Kitchen, in the eighty-sixth year of his age.
Died on the 28th day of November, 1893, Rosannah Kitchen, aged 92 yrs, 3 mO. & 28 days.
Uied on the 12th day of May, 1890, Ann Gaston Kitchen, aged 70 yrs, 1 mo. & 26 days.
Died 22nd ~1arch, 1887, Samuel Green Craft, aged 79 yrs, 6 mo. and 12 days.
Died 19th April, 1889, Henry Rothrock Craft, aged 37 years, 1 month & 14 days.
Died 6th August, 1902, George G. Craft, aged 55 years, 6 months and 24 days.
The above is the complete reco,"d contained in the old Bible. However, I here
add two death dates taken from a clipping and newspaper: The clipping was not
dated hut it stated that J. B. Kitchen, aged 81 years had passed on, so being
born June 22, 1825, that makes his death date after that date in 1906 or before
that date in 1907. The obituary of I1a Blanch Kitchen states she died Monday,
Nov. 13, 1n6.
