Basmi Kemiskinan (YBK)/Poverty Eradication Foundation
established on 26 March 1990 under the Trustees Incorporation Act 1952, in line
with the aspiration of the then Selangor CM through its blue ocean strategy in
ensuring that fast actions are taken without having to go through the many
bureaucracies and red tapes of the state government in the efforts to eradicate
poverty.
• YBK aims to ensure that poverty alleviation is executed through:
• implementing sustainable projects and inclusivity in today’s society
• introducing social entrepreneurship

The objectives of DESA KASIH CEMERLANG program:
 to solidify family institutions and improve quality of life,
 to cultivate an excellent attitude towards life,
 to create traders and entrepreneurs,
 to turn participants into a skillful and knowledgeable society and
 to increase academic achievements of the students.

HUMAN MIND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
• Human Mind Development program of Desa Kasih Merbau Berdarah is an attitude correctional program for
the people from housing project of the hardcore poor (PPRT) that had been divided into three groups - head of
household (KIR), members of the household (housewives) and children of the participants.
• The execution of this program had managed to enhance the attitude by increasing knowledge and new
experiences of the participants towards a proper lifestyle in competing with the wave of development
• Facilities made available:
STUDENTS EXCELLENCE CENTRE
•
Each settlement is provided with students excellence center that is equipped with book racks, utilities, chairs
and tables, billboard, computer, reference books, exercise books and magazines. Tuition classes programs
such as UPSR, PMR and SPM are also conducted.
ICT PROGRAMME
• Each settlement is equipped with ICT facilities in community hall or students excellence center.
The ICT
center offers the computer related training opportunities to students, teenagers and household members
where training facilities by the appointed teaching source.
COMMUNITY ECONOMIC PROGRAMS
This socio-economic program was allotted to YBK by the Ministry Of Rural Development to on 6
July1999 to carry out honey guava plantation program, vegetable plantation, oil palm collection
and sewing programs.
• Honey guava
The program was executed in Desa
Kaih Merbau Berdarah of which 6
honey guava saplings were provided
for each family to be planted around
their houses.
• The proceeds from selling the honey
guava has helped increase the
income of the participants.
Vegetable plantation
• Other than generating extra
income, this program has enabled
the participants in Desa Kasih to
get nutritious food source planted
around their houses.
• Some participants had also reared
chickens and ducks as an extra
source of income.
Oil palm collection
• A JV project with Koridor Padu Sdn Bhd
began in mid 2000 with the initial work
stages involving in providing weighing
stations as recommended by the company.
• The execution of the program had been
completed in 2003 and was handed over
to Desa Kasih Merbau Berdarah
Cooperation Berhad.
Cooperative
• The establishment of the cooperation on
6 September 2001 was meant to help
the participants to get involved in
various business fields such as the
purchasing and selling of farm produce.
• Among the activities of the participants
at that point of time were fresh fruit
bunch program, sewing workshop and
the selling of rice to the participants.
Sewing program
• 22 housewives and single mothers underwent
this project as interns for six months, each
participant received an allowance of
RM10.00 per day for the entire duration of
the training.
• 16 trainees of the tailoring workshop are now
working full time as workers at the tailoring
workshop with an estimated income received
ranging between RM400 to RM500 a month.
• The training workshop has eventually assigned
to Desa Kasih Merbau Berdarah Cooperation
as their economic activity.
D’KASIH CAFE
• D‘Kasih Cafe is a socio-economic program
funded by the Ministry of Rural
Development in 2001, where YBK set up
business premises and provided
appropriate business tools to enable the
target groups to carry out businesses.
• The party that gains the benefit will pay
back the investment capital done by YBK
without any interest to enable more people
to reap benefits from this programs.

ASRAMA KASIH YBK SERENDAH (ASKA)
• Located in Mukim Serendah, Hulu Selangor, it was
developed in 1993 and underwent renovation in
the year 2000 with land cost of RM95,625.00 and
development cost of RM3,319,386.66.
• Selected students from poor families and orphans
who attained at least 2A in the lower primary
assessment examination (UPSR).
• ASKA provides free food and accommodation with
infrastructure facilities - sports equipment, praying
room, learning facilities (library, computer rooms),
fardhu ain classes, school fees, exam fees, daily
pocket money, and bus transportation.
• YBK is confident in producing quality and highly
disciplined students with good life values.
ASRAMA KASIH YBK GESIR (JAMBOR SAKTI)
• Located in Kampung Gesir Tengah, Hulu Bernam, the
hostel lodged selected students from poor families and
orphans of the rural areas age 9-12 years old who
possess the potential to excel in their academics.
• The accommodation, food, academic-related expenses,
transportation and religious lessons for the students
are fully funded by YBK.
WEEKEND TUITION GROUP (KUNTUM)
• KUNTUM is carried out with the support of school principals and the involvement of teachers in the
selected schools in the rural areas.
• Students attending KUNTUM are those from poor families and are taught Malay Language, English
Language, Modern Maths, Additional Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Science Stream),
Commerce And Accounting.
• Free tuition classes for SPM candidates are provided, held in the evening (after normal schooling
hours) or on the weekends (Saturday & Sunday) with 20 students in each class.

Situated on 5.46 acres land in Kuala Selangor, the center came into
operation on 18th august 1992 as a result of educational collaboration
between YBK and UMW Corporation Bhd, with the development costs of
RM1,900,000.
Equipped with complete infrastructure such as tutorial rooms, training
workshop, hostel, dining hall, prayer rooms and sports field. The
infrastructure facilities is able to cater to 100 students at one time.

YBK SKILLS ACADEMY
• YBK Skills Academy was established on Lot 2871 in
Mukim Hulu Bernam, with the costs of RM640,188.00
inclusive of learning courses, skill workshops and
lodging place that could accommodate up to 50 trainers
at one time.
• Electrical wiring certificate, certified by the Energy
Commission (2 years).
• The study fees were either sponsored by YBK through
career skill training allotment under Ministry of Rural
and Regional Development or Selangor Zakat Centre.
FASTRACK PROGRAM
• The program was executed in 1995 to give a second chance to the students who did not perform well in their
SPM offering courses such as Secretarial, Accounting, Computer Science, Business Management, Hotel
Management And Tourism, Computer And Office Management And Information Technology. The Technical
Courses Available Are Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Automobile
Engineering, Architectural Draftsman and Mechanical Draftsman for the period of 18 months .

YBK spent an amount of RM579,234.00 to provide aid to 401 trainees out of
730 trainees. All the study fees of 730 trainees are sponsored and paid directly
by the government of Selangor to private institutions such as INPENS college,
WIT, FIT, ITTAR, EDI, Stamford and Selangor Human Resources Development
Centre (SHRDC).
YBK has helped 681 students to gain skills and certificates through the
program conducted 1995-98
1995/96: 583 students with Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (Malaysia Skills
Certificate).
1997/98: 22 students with Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia and 218 students with
diplomas.
1998: 125 students with Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia.
BANTING MUTIARA ACADEMY- COMMUNITY

Banting Mutiara Academy was set up in 1997 with a
capital of RM 400,000.
Offered opportunities for poor SPM leavers with low
grades to further their studies to diploma level in Computer
Science & Information Technology, Business Study and
Accounting with fees RM169 per month.
Up until 2005, more than 1,200 students had further their
studies in this college.
2005, the board members of YBK trust holders has decided
to cease operation of this private higher learning institute
(IPTS) college program due to tight financial flow.
To date, this college only offers short term courses and
Malaysia skills certificate which is a computer networking
ULU BERNAM MUTIARA INSTITUTE –
COMMUNITY COLLEGE
• Developed with a cost of RM 2.1 million on YBK’s land of
8.64 acres in Kg Tersusun Gesir Tengah, Hulu Selangor in
2000, offering diploma in Information Technology,
Computer Science and Accounting.
• However in 2006 discontinued its operation due to the
difficulty in getting adequate number of students to cover
operational cost of this college as a private higher learning
institution.
• About 330 students had furthered their studies here during
its operational years. The premises of this college has now
become the training camp for national service.

• A private trust body established on 17 September 1987
• AIM is the establishment of a string of successes Initiative Project which is an action
research project conducted by the Centre for Policy Research, Universiti Sains
Malaysia from 1986 to 1987 in Northwest Selangor.
• This action research led by Professor David S. Gibbons and Professor Sukor Kasim is
to test this approach offers micro-credit financing scheme to the poor to undertake
any economic activity based on the skills acquired as an effort to increase family
income.
• Currently the total of Sahabat AIM are 272,923 people and 106 branches all over
Malaysia

• The objective of AIM is:
• Reduce poverty among poor households and lower income in Malaysia by
providing micro-credit financing to fund activities that can improve the income.
