I would first, like to inform you, that because of ill health, that has become worse, I will no longer be the director of the Eucharistic Ministers, effective
July 1, 2016. I will however be continuing in my Ministry as Deacon to the parish of St Joseph.
It has been a pleasure to have worked with such wonderful ministers here at St Joseph Parish, for the past 6 years as the director and the past 10 years
as a Deacon. I mean this sincerely, and cannot thank you enough for all the Mass cards, phone calls etc., while I have been fighting cancer, these past 3
years.
At this time it gives me great pleasure to introduce to you, our new director of Eucharistic Ministers, Mrs Alice Becker Searles. Alice has been a lector
and Eucharistic Minister for many years and is a member of the Parish Council and is very active with the Ladies of Charity, and other organizations in
the parish. I ask that you give the same respect, kindness, and cooperation to Alice as you gave to me.
Again, thanks for all your help, Deacon Bob.
I will be making up the new schedule with Alice. I ask you to please submit any dates, when you will be away on vacation, etc. and cannot be available to
perform your duty as a Eucharistic Minister. The new schedule will go into effect from the first Sunday in July, up to the Sunday before Christmas.
Please submit any dates that you know of ASAP but, no LATER than MAY 31, 2016. You may submit them in writing and leave it in my mailbox at the
rectory, or call me at home and leave a message on my phone (914) 779-7845.

WHY DO WE HAVE THE ANOINTING
OF THE SICK?
There are times when the Church, like Jesus, has
a message that cannot be put into words.
Illness and the declining strength of old age are such times.
He wanted it continued by His Disciples.
Healing was at the heart of Jesus’ ministry, and

JESUS SUMMONED THE TWELVE AND BEGAN TO SEND THEM OUT
TWO BY TWO…THEY EXPELLED MANY
DEMONS, ANOINTED THE SICK
WITH OIL, AND WORKED MANY CURES. (Mk 6:7-13)
The Church today continues this healing ministry of Jesus in the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.

“Jesus said to his disciples: ‘I have much more to tell you, but you cannot hear it now. But when he
comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth… Everything that the Father has is mine; for this
reason I told you that he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.” “….because the love of God
has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.”
Our faith today tells us two things. The first is the existence of the Trinity, as the passage of St. John
speaks of Father and Spirit referred to by Jesus himself. The second is that the mystery of the Trinity
is not something not distant from us, but it is within, and has been ‘poured out into our hearts.
Maybe I can bless myself more reverently as I proclaim my faith in the mystery of God. When I see an
athlete rapidly make the sign of the cross, may it remind me, not of faith, but of what He has poured
into my heart.
When I am looking for direction on a GPS or map, may I be reminded that it is the promised spirit of
Jesus who will guide me.
When I am in doubt, making a decision, may I ask the Spirit, the gift of the Father and Son, to assist
me. I cannot fully understand this mystery, but can acknowledge it and use it well.
