The event is an opportunity for parents to see and experience first hand the many positive ways in which students are engaging in innovative teaching and learning practices here at the high school. This includes courses, projects, and initiatives in the realms of b oth interdisciplinary learning and technology, both of which are increasingly important to a 21st Century Education and to our own school’s growth. In preparation for next year’s course selection, we encourage you to participate in this celebration and showcase of student learning and innovation at NHS. We invite you to walk through and see this exciting work through a number of exhibits, where you will b e able to interact with and learn from our talented students and teachers. There will b e a wide range of 21st century learning topics highlighted through poster and multimedia displays, student and teacher presentations, and hands-­‐on demonstrations. Needham High School’s Newsletter of Record Community Service Announcements 12/14/15. Needham Community Education is looking for volunteers to help with a town wide mailing. This w ill take place at the school administration building on Monday, December 28 through W ednesday, December 30 from 8:00am to 4:00pm and on Thursday, December 31 from 8:00am to 1:00pm. Needham Metrowest Basketball, a 4th through 8th grade basketball program is sponsoring opportunities for community service during the basketball season: Sundays, December 6 through March 6 (12 wks). Games are generally one hour between 9AM and 7:30PM. Looking for two-­‐three hour commitment each Sunday over the course of the season. A student coordinator is also needed to organize high school volunteers by scheduling and ensuring attendance at youth basketball games, to run the game clock and manage the scorebook. Games run every Sunday at Needham High School, the Rashi School, and Elliot School. The NHS Diamond Club is selling Needham Rockets Slides. For each slide sold, $5 benefits the NHS Diamond Club. The NHS Diamond Club supports the high school baseball program. Host a French student chez vous! In October 2016 Needham will welcome 24 high school students and 2 teachers from Normandy, France! Students are interested in learning about YOU, attending Needham High School for 3 days and going on local excursions organized by their group. .us NHS Booster Annual Tree Sale & More! The Needham High School Boosters Annual Christmas Tree Sale begins on Saturday 11/28 and runs through Sunday December 20th. The location is on Central Ave next to Claxton Field in Needham across from the Recycling Center. The hours of the sale are; Monday -­‐ Friday 5pm -­‐ 8pm, Saturdays 9am-­‐7pm and Sundays from 10am-­‐ 6pm. In addition to trees there will be for sale: bows, decorated wreaths, drawstring bags with HS logo, Christmas ornaments, hand knit scarves, NHS sweatshirts and long sleeve t-­‐shirts. All proceeds benefit the Needham High School Athletic Programs. Charles River ASPIRE program Open House The Charles River Center ASPIRE after-­‐school program is having an open house so parents, teachers and the community can learn more about our program! It is offered in Needham and is open to all students with developmental disabilities, including autism spectrum disorders, from area elementary, middle and high schools, regardless of their place of residence. Math The NHS Math Department is offering students extra help in our Math Help Room Mondays through Thursdays The Math Help Room is located in Room 205D and is staffed by community volunteers who have extensive backgrounds in mathematics. Following is the schedule. Please be aware that it is subject to change. Monday: 10:00 AM -­‐ 2:35 PM Tuesday: from 8:00 AM -­‐3:00 PM Wednesday: 8:00 AM -­‐12:00 PM Thursday: 7 :30 AM -­‐3:00 PM Friday: 7:45 AM -­‐12:00 PM Students wishing to obtain help before school need to see Mr. Shea for a pass. Writing Center The Writing Center is a place where students can get help from a peer tutor on any writing assignment in any subject. Tutors are available on a first come, first served basis every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday after school in Room 719. Tutors are upperclassmen who have strong writing skills and who are eager to help their peers. Homework Club Homework Club meets every Tuesday after school in Mr. Swanger’s Room 428 from 2:45-­‐
4:45 PM. If you need any help, swing on by! NEF Teacher Appreciation Cards are Here New Year’s Needham is Back! NEF Teacher Appreciation Cards make it simple to show your gratitude, while supporting innovation and excellence in Needham Public Schools. NEF will send a card to your designated honoree(s) or you can purchase cards to personalize and hand deliver. Cards are available for a minimum donation of $15 each, $30 for a Pollard/High Rock cluster pack, $ 60 for 5 cards, or $ 100 for 10 cards.
