423 REARING CALVES (Not for export)
Auctioneers: Jonny Dymond 07703 676227 and Jonty Cliffe 07595 453306
A SLOW start but thankfully the trailers came and
queued up to give us a fine entry of 423. Thank you to
all the vendors for their support, from loads of 1 to 27
we thank everyone for making the journey
The trade would not be as fast as last week’s flyer with
some buyers wanting calves but lacking space as turn
out still seems a long way away! The Calf trade for the
best is still tremendous however buyers are becoming
more particular and are giving the best prices for shape
not size as finished grades are becoming evermore
important.

84 Continentals Bulls
Top slot was reserved for a special calf from Martin Coar who showed 16 today to a top of £418 for a
Blue, closely followed by the pick of 10 from C S Fitton at £400, then a pick of 9 from John Cooke at
£390. Great Blues chaps thank you. Some strong lims today looked a good buy topped at £395 by Brian
Griffiths Simmentals topped by JS Oakes at £355. Shapely younger bulls today traded from £300-£330
all day long, small and plain bulls started from £100. Putting the milk in the calves rather than the
tanker is surely a good investment.
58 Continental Heifers
A really pleasing show, topped by cow making Blues from Martin Coar at £328, James Oulton £320,
Mike Cliffe £320, Charlie Fitton £320, John Cook £318. Limousins to £290 this week for Messrs Done
and Hampson. Simmentals topped by a super calf from JS Oakes at £288. Young fresh types traded
from £210-£260 for all breeds but the slightest lack of shape saw heifers drop to £100-£150.
56 Native Bulls
WHERE ELSE IN THE COUNTRY CAN YOU HAVE YOU CHOICE OF OVER 100 HEREFORDS & ANGUS
EVERY WEEK!
Best native bulls a very fast trade at £240-£280. Topped by the Angus to £285 for Garnett Farms and
£280 for B&D Hassall. Herefords to £262 for EA Johnson & Sons and £238 for HF Langley and Partners.
Second quality bouncy sorts were in high demand and met a good trade at £180-£220. Anything not
looking its full potential or plainer x bred sorts £80-£140.
54 Native Heifers
What a super trade!! Plenty of quality on offer and the trade to match. Best sorts £170+, with Angus
from Garnett Farms topping at £232 and £225 and Herefords to £188 for S Carden and £175 for D
Latham. A lot of second quality calves around the £130-£150 mark looked very well sold on any trade.
Sweet young heifers sold from £90-£120.
158 Dairy Bulls
Short on best quality today but dairy bulls met a consistent trade throughout. Top call today for JE & J
Oakes and ME & RA Sadler at £112. Best bulls trading £90+ were few and far between, plenty of
Mediums at £50-£80 which with another week of milk would of hit £100+. A lot more processors about
this week and they were between £20-£40.
OUR AVERAGES INCLUDE EVERYTHING FROM TOP TO BOTTOM, INCLUDING CHANNEL ISLAND CROSSES
YOU WOULD BE WRONG TO JUDGE YOUR CALVES AGAINST OUR AVERAGES, WE ARE MORE THAN
HAPPY TO COME AND SEE YOU, DO NOT HESITATE TO CALL.
86 Store Cattle
Auctioneer Jonathan Farrall
A few less about, and whilst trade cannot be described as ‘flying’, it remained respectable and
crucially, in-line with the beef. Some warmer weather and a flush of spring grass will undoubtedly alter
things slightly, and a hike in the beef price would be welcomed on all fronts.
A pair of cracking Blue steers from Andrew Williamson topped the sale at £1145 and there were a
decent number of steers over £900 including Angus x from Messrs Boughey. Anything with shape, time
and potential sold readily however, anything slightly out of spec proved harder work.
Forward heifers from Mr Gregory, Ash, peaked at £890 and £855 with a very smart pen of Limx from
Barbara Heyes Land Improvement also at £855. Promising youngsters from Adrian Piggott sold to £820
at 14mo and there were plenty of cattle around £600 that looked a sensible investment.

180 CULL COWS 10.00am
Auctioneer: Simon Lamb 07815 188125
Topping at 133.0p or £977
GREAT TRADE THROUGHOUT….. WITH BLACK AND WHITES AVERAGING 89.55PPK!!!
What a trade! A packed ring full of prospective buyers ensured a blistering trade throughout. Of the 180
forward on the day, over 170 were dairy bred with a big improvement on steakers and the bottom end,
with the meat a tad firmer as well! A new face or two and plenty of bidding makes a big difference from
that of two weeks ago! (Although I did burn my nose skiing) Best black and whites sold to 131ppk for
younger Holsteins from Liverpool University with 5yo Holsteins to 125ppk for Mosford Farms Ltd,
topping the gross was PA & JE Vaughan with a cow at £939, with plenty of others in excess of the £900
mark. Plainer cattle a penny or two dearer on the week, that said the quality would be better too! Just
one bull in today a Monty from CH & ES Lunt selling for 110ppk or £841. More required next week,
number easily absorbed and trade to boot. Please inform myself of future entries.
Guaranteed payment on the day if you collect!! BACS payment available! We’re here to help whenever
we can, call Simon on 07815 188125.
Today’s market average (mostly black and white), coming in at 90.69ppk or £572.68 per head.
(Everything in, including the lean, mean, lame and loopy!)
Dairy bred cows averaging 89.55 pence or £567.50 per life. Black and white cows traded throughout the
day at 100p to 120p for meated cows, 80p to 100p for steakers, 75p to 85p for stronger plain cows and
44p to 70p there after! Dairy bred to 131p or £977 and Bulls to 110p or £841.
PAYMENT ON THE DAY FOR ALL LIVESTOCK SOLD AT OUR WEEKLY SALES!
MORE CATTLE NEEDED EACH WEEK, DON’T MISS THE TRADE.

PRODUCE REPORT
40 LOADS OF FARM PRODUCE
MONDAY 11th April 2016
Auctioneer: Alan Lane
Two season records broken at Chelford today – big bale hay up to £106 per tonne and haylage to £78
per tonne. Apart from these two exceptional prices, trade for both hay and haylage was similar to
recent weeks. Two loads of small bale hay made £125 - £155 per tonne, twelve loads of big bale hay
£40 to £106 per tonne and fifteen loads of haylage £34 to £78 per tonne. The majority of big bale hay
was, if anything, slightly less money than previous weeks and the majority of haylage two or three bids
more than recent weeks.
Straw is still in short supply and with no signs yet of turnout time, prices are increasing. Big bale barley
today made £68 to £80 per tonne and big bale wheat straw £50 to £68 per tonne. A single load of
small bale barley made £106 and a single load of small bale oat straw £82 per tonne.

BEESTON CASTLE AUCTION
314 HOLSTEINS
Being the entire COWSIDE herd, the property of JA & VE Robinson and removed to Beeston Castle
Auction from Harmby Moor Farm, Harmby Moor, Leyburn, North Yorkshire and comprising 163 Cows
and Heifers In-milk; 26 In-calf Heifers; 17 Served Heifers, 105 Maiden Heifers and Heifer Calves and 3
Holstein Stock Bulls bred at Annandale, Feizor and Stardale. This is a great herd of cows farmed on
exposed ground high up in the Yorkshire Dales and the cattle can only do one thing and that is improve
on their already very good performance. The cows are in great condition and of really good
conformation. They have great udders, legs and feet and display lots of width without being too tall. 6
EX, 19 VG and 43 GP animals included. All year round calving pattern and no particular bias and a very
appealing age profile with almost 120 milking with 3rd or younger lactations including 55 heifers and 40
second calvers. Breeding in recent years has been mainly through natural service of purchased superbly
bred stock bulls and has proven very successful. In the milkers the main sire is Studdah Roscoe (Ross x
94-4E Jordan) who has made a big impact with 75 dtrs in the sale. The eldest of three stock bulls selling
is Feizor Daylight (Lauthority x 95-6E Shottle) who has almost 50 lovely maidens and calves selling. The
other two bulls are sons of Stanleycup and Alexander. Management is really good considering it is a
really old fashioned set up in which the cows live. Cubicles. Grass silage and 18% protein concs at
milking. Vaccinated for IBR, BVD, Lepto, Rotavirus. Eprinex Annually. Screened for Johnes and never
had a clinical case. 4yr TB and Pre-movement Tested.
