Rutters
bringing images to life
WE’VE GOT
IT WELL AND
TRULY COVERED
Following recent success in producing large floor graphics
for a major feature film, Rutters were chosen against strong
competition to produce the main feature graphic for the
auditorium at the centre of the Royal Albert Halls’ BBC
Proms - a 12 metre diameter Flexifloor graphic, flanked by
two impressive 6 x 20 metre images of arches printed onto
polyester for hanging either side of the main stage.
Within 10 days from receipt of artwork Rutters printed and installed the
graphics at the Royal Albert Hall. The floor graphic was printed onto a
self-adhesive film which was applied with an antislip overlaminate and
adhered to a 3mm Flexifloor lino surface. This was then secured to the
floor in 12 x 2 metre sections using NEC removable self-adhesive tape.

A RIGHT ROYAL, ROARING SUCCESS ...
As part of the ongoing upgrading of the
shops within the Royal Palaces, Rutters
printed a series of graphics to liven up the
show cabinets in the various shops.
New window blinds are part of the roll-out
to give restaurant chain Nandos a consistent
theme across its 180 restaurants.
A self-adhesive vinyl was selected, with
overlaminating film for protection, and
these durable graphics were applied to
the windows and existing cabinets at
‘The Royal Beasts’ exhibition shop at The
Tower of London.
Rutters are supplying various sized blinds,
printed on knitted polyester, to British
Blinds for installation on electrical raise
and lower systems. The current programme
is for one store per week to be upgraded.
The exhibition focuses on the Royal
association with various animals over the
centuries, many of which have been kept
at the Tower of London.
Whatever the size of the project, Rutters
have got it covered!

The whole project, just one of a series of
similar exercises that Rutters have carried
out at the Royal Palaces, was completed
within two weeks. Installation took place
before 8am to avoid the huge number of
visitors to The Tower of London.

Fit for a Princess or Three
Graphics forming the background of a series of display cabinets and a wallpapered wall have
been printed and installed by Rutters at Kensington Palace, the home of Princess Diana and
many other Royal patrons in the past. The display cabinet background and wallpaper are part
of the display at the ‘Enchanted Princesses Exhibition’ retail shop in the Palace.
A Hundred Years of Us
To coincide with the 2011 National Census, Rutters were asked by Twenty Twenty TV
to provide artwork and to print and install the complete studio set graphics for use in a
five-part daytime TV series about the last 100 years of the British nation and its changing
nature. Hosted by Michael Aspel, the series featured appearances from celebrity guests
such as Gloria Hunniford, Phil Tufnell and Pete Waterman who talked about their own
lifetime experiences.
The cabinet backgrounds measuring 3 x 2 metres, have been printed on a self-adhesive
vinyl with a matt seal protection and the 3 x 3 metre wallpaper printed on Raffa canvas.
Once again, Rutters were able to complete the job within 10 days from receipt of artwork.

From client brief, Rutters were quickly able to present the design concepts which were
then developed to a final design. The 8 x 5.5 metre floor graphic and 3 x 14 metre wall
graphics were designed, printed on matt self-adhesive vinyl and installed onto an existing
cyclorama by Rutters within four weeks. This was the first time that TTV Pictures of
Gordon House Road, London had been dressed in such an innovative way using a large
self-adhesive printed image.

AND SO TO BED
This recent project continues a long association between Rutters and Mobas Design
Group. A formidable amount of joint expertise has been accrued during our successful,
long-standing relationship which has involved working together on many varied
projects for over 25 years.
The project is part of the recent rebranding
of hotel group Accor. A one-off series of
graphics depicting the Hotel brands that sit
within the Accor portfolio were printed by
Rutters. They now adorn the walls of Accor’s
head office in Hammersmith, London and
personalise the rooms to replicate the
styles of each of the hotel brands that
Accor runs in Europe and the UK.
With a mixture of framed prints as large
as 8ft x 4ft to the A1 wall panel panels
this project has shown the versatility that
Rutters can offer including images as large
as 2.5m x 8m supplied and installed in one
piece, printed on Raffa Canvas and applied
to the walls. The project was completed
within 10 days from receipt of the artwork
and installation was carried out during
working hours in three phases without any
disturbance to the client.

Shop ‘til you drop
The flagship store at The Tower of London has had a long-term area problem solved with
a simple solution from Rutters. Visitors will now be encouraged to visit the shop by a
2.66 x 11.91 metre, first floor, decorative textile wall of colour.
The HT polyester textile wall was installed using a fastrack hanging mechanism which was
fixed under the ceiling on the first floor. Total production time for print and installation
was 10 days.

What a magical and wizard way
to produce a marble floor
Rutters continued its ten year relationship with Warner Brothers and the
Harry Potter film series by printing the reproduction of a mosaic floor as
the main feature in the Gringotts Bank set constructed at Leavesden Film
Studios, Watford, for the last in the series of the films.
Rutters printed the floor in 1600mm wide sections. Over 610 sq metres
of matt paper was used, chosen for its quality and ease of installation. The
main image was 38m x 15m with extras pieces printed for the side rooms.
The client mounted the images onto a specially prepared MDF floor surface
and then applied coloured gloss lacquer to create the simply breathtaking
effect of a giant marble mosaic. The final result is out of this world!
This prestigious and high-profile project was completed in less than 21 days
from receipt of the artwork.

A Dedicated
Follower of
Fashion
Rutters were commissioned by top fashion
designer Osman Yousefzada to print a
specially designed carpet for the main
catwalk at the recent London Fashion Show.
Celebrity Juice
Weekly light entertainment TV celebrity quiz show Celebrity Juice needed a new studio
set for its new series with Keith Lemon, Holly Willoughby and Fearne Cotton headlining
each week with various celebrity guests.
Rutters were asked by TV set designer Dominic Tolfts, on behalf of Talkback Thames, to
produce a 6.5 x 44 metre canvas cyclorama, 17 Foamex panel prints each measuring
2 x 2.7 metres and a main title canvas for the set. The set, built by Dave Green, was
highlighted by paparazzi camera flashlights to give that extra dimension and with the use
of clever lighting, the set literally dances in front of your eyes.
The entire project was completed within 10 days and installed at the Riverside Studios,
Hammersmith, London.

School for Scandal
The main feature show for May and June 2011 at The Barbican, London was a production of
Sheridan’s restoration comedy ‘School for Scandal’.
Due to a successful and longstanding professional relationship with Factory Settings, Rutters
were commissioned to supply printed graphics for this prestigious event.
A series of very large canvas prints were
produced, some of which were hung as
cloths and some as wallpaper to the walls.
Totalling nearly 250 square metres, the flats
for the large scenic drops were printed on
Digital canvas and the wall flats printed onto
self adhesive material with anti slip surfaces.
The latter were expertly mounted onto
timber flats prepared by Factory Settings as
walls. These were then lowered on stage to
become floors.

It’s a Cover Up!
To coincide with the opening of the Turner Gallery and the rebuilding of the Dreamland
Complex on Marine Parade, Margate, Thanet Council used a large hoarding to cover the
Old Arcade, prior to the start of the new build programme for a major super store chain.
The graphics consist of decorative panels featuring anecdotes and drawings by local
people and artists depicting the history of the area and their memories of a bygone age.
The images were printed as 48 panels which measured 2.4m x 1.2m making a 57m
long hoarding. Each panel was made from an aluminium composite with an anti-graffiti
protective coat with wrapped edges for added protection and long life. This was installed
onto a timber plywood base using security screws to avoid removal. The whole job took
Rutters two weeks to complete.

Delivered ON TIME, EVERY TIME
To launch Dior’s new range of VIII timepieces to the world and to create that wow factor,
Rutters worked closely with Sculptivate and their team to create truly memorable displays.
The launch took place simultaneously in 3 major flagship stores.
Full colour Ultraflex graphics were printed carefully with masked and opaqued-out
backgrounds around the time pieces. This meant that the full colour image was shown
against a pitch black surround to emphasise the colour and detail of the watch face. It was
further enhanced by facetted white MDF panels constructed by Truestage who handled
the main construction of the displays.
Rutters printed the full colour graphics and installed the images into a selection of 15 light
boxes (from 600mm x 400 up to a whopping 3570mm x 2330mm) after 8 pm at three
venues - Sloane Street, New Bond Street and instore at Harrods for the simultaneous
launch. All within a 10 - 14 day timescale.

Garden, London, they came to Rutters.
Spelling Bee
The 15 x 2.5 metre ‘sky’ graphic was printed on Raffa canvas and applied in one massive
piece to avoid any join lines to the wall and create that seamless illusion of tranquility.
The installation was done in one phase during working hours, without any disturbance to
the client.
A 15ft x 3ft banner, a 1500mm wall decal with large letters in a High School Style of
Putnam High and a number of one square metre floor graphics were used to replicate an
American High School Gym on the set of the hugely popular Spelling Bee stage show at
the Donmar Warehouse, Covent Garden, London.
