A Greener New Year!
Pollution is Not the Solution

Let’s help our earth! We had our first GarbageFree Day on January 16th to help our planet.
We are going to be doing this once a month
until the month of June.
Our student council decided to do this event to
prevent having so many garbage bags at our
school. Every day, Ray picks up between 6-7
bags of garbage. It is a lot of garbage and John
Adam is trying to reduce that amount.
On our Garbage-Free Day, everyone had to
bring all of their snacks and lunch in a reusable
container. At recess, very few people put

Orange, red, green and blue! We need bottle
caps in all of these colours and more to create
a mural in our school. The more different
colours of caps that we get, the more
colourful the mural is going to be.

garbage in the trash, and at lunch, only people
with hot lunches were allowed to throw their
garbage in the trash can.

By the end of the day, Ray only had half a bag
of garbage to throw out. We were surprised by
the small amount picked up on that day. We
hope that we will be surprised again in
February!
Every year, the Grade 6 students do a project
with Mrs. Kim to leave their mark in the school.
This year, we are making a mural. We are
collecting colourful, plastic bottle caps. When
we have collected enough bottle caps, we will
decide on the picture for the mural.
There are 3 boxes near
the daycare office that
people can put bottle
caps in. Don’t forget to
bring your plastic caps
to school every day!
We need caps of all sizes and
colours!

Basketball
Dribble...Pass...Shoot!

On January 30th, the Grade 6 girls went to a
basketball tournament held at Heritage
Regional High School. There were 10 girls who
made the basketball team. This year, the girls
were not in the AA league, but they were in the
A league.
This month, 10 lucky Grade 6 boys went to the
basketball tournament that was held
at
Heritage Regional High School on January 31st.
The John Adam boys ruled at the tournament!
The girls were so cooperative as a team that
they won a game 42-4!!! There were parent
volunteers cheering and the little team mascot
named Skittles who brought them luck.
Happily, they won their first 4 games, which
brought them to the finals.

In the finals, they competed against the girls
from Greenfield Park International. The John
Adam girls won 34-18. With another victory,
the girls won first place and brought another
banner back to our school!!
The girls worked well together and celebrated
as a team!
The boys showed their team spirit in the huddle.
In the first game, the boys were losing after the
first half, but during the second half, they
dominated and won 20-15 against Courtland
Park International. Then, the boys played their
second game and won 40-18 against St. Jude. In
their third game, the boys won once again, this
time against Harold Napper. The boys were
pumped and excited because they knew they
would play in the finals.
During the final game, the boys on the sidelines
were chanting the John Adam cheer to help
motivate the team. The boys played against
Mount-Bruno. The John Adam boys won 32-12,
and the best part is they won the banner!!!

What’s Happening in ... Grade 3
Mrs. Bravi’s Class
La Classe de Mme Francine

Hey, everyone! Do you want to know what’s
happening in Mrs. Bravi’s Grade 3 class?
La classe de Mme Francine a décoré leur
classe avec plein de cartes du monde. Leurs
thèmes sont les Iroquoiens, les Algonquiens et
les jeux Olympiques de Sotchi. Ils se
pratiquent pour la dictée P.G.L.
In Mrs. Bravi’s class, there are 18 students,
eleven girls and seven boys. They have a
pretty simple routine in the morning. They
empty their school bags, scrub their desks and
make sure they have their indoor shoes on.
Then, they are all set for the morning.
In Math, Mrs. Bravi’s class is learning about 4
digit addition and subtraction and they are
starting to learn about multiplication. Their
favourite subjects are Music, Math, Gym and
reading. They also like recess.
Mrs. Bravi’s class went to the Iroquois Village.
In February, they’re going to go to the
Museum of Fine Arts in Montreal and they are
also going skating.
La Classe de Mme Catherine
Ariane et Alison
Dans la classe de Mme Catherine, il y a 12
élèves en troisième année et 6 élèves en
quatrième année. La couleur de leur classe est
vert pâle et sur les murs, il y a des affiches de
verbes, des mots et des sons.
Avant que la classe commence, ils
leurs crayons pour la journée. Après
ils choisissent un livre et ils le
silence. Les élèves préfèrent les
chapitres et les bandes-dessinées.
Ce mois ci, les élèves ont choisi comme livres
préférés: les Dragouilles, les romans Zak et Zoe
et les livres d’informations sur les animaux. Les
élèves de la classe de Mme Francine aiment
beaucoup les arts, l’éducation physique, aller
chercher leurs nouveaux livres à la
bibliothèque et les mathématiques.
Ils sont allés visiter un village iroquoien au site
archéologique
Droulers.
Le
jeudi
7
février, leur classe va visiter le Musée des
Beaux-Arts. Ils sont très excités!!!
Les élèves apprennent régulièrement les
multiplications et les formes en 3D. Les élèves
aiment aller sur les ordinateurs et au gymnase.
Bientôt, la classe de Mme Catherine va aller au
Musée des Beaux-Arts à Montréal. Les
élèves de quatrième année vont souvent
travailler dans la classe à Mme Amélie.
