PASTOR’S LETTER
Dear Friends,
This is my first letter to you in 2 weeks. The 1st week, I was on my
Annual Priest Retreat in Menlo Park. It was one of the best retreat’s I’ve
ever been on. The Retreat Master, a priest from Maine, wrote a book entitled: “From Saint Francis to Pope Francis.” This was the theme of the retreat. Is there anyone who doesn’t love Pope Francis? The 2nd week, I was
in Tax Court in San Francisco. I was thinking after my testimony, I would
rather have a root canal than to go to Tax Court again.
A lot has happened since I last wrote you. The school year has come to an end, our children are on vacation until mid-August, and summer is now officially here. We had 225 kids in
our school this past year and we hope to gain another 10 to 20 during the summer. The parish
was able to provide 3 $4,000 Scholarships to 3 different kids who otherwise couldn’t afford to
go to our school. If you or if you know someone who wants to go to our school, and can’t afford the $8,000 price tag, please see me or call me. I’m confident that something can be
worked out.
Two parishioners shared their concerns with me over my 16 Commandments in living a
good life. They pointed out that in my 8th Commandment; I used the words “a loving, caring,
and committed relationship” rather than using the word “marriage.” The word “marriage” has
been redefined in our society to include a lot of meanings that the Church never intended. In
fact, the Supreme Court will be coming down with a big ruling on “same sex marriage” by the
end of the month. I respect and believe in the Church’s definition of marriage, (if I didn’t, I
would have to turn in my Priest Card!) but sometimes it is important to spell out the word and
give the definition rather than using the word itself because the word is confusing for some
people, especially our young people. I don’t know about you, but it works for me. That, in a
nutshell, is why I didn’t use the word “marriage.”
Two long time Staff Members will be moving on as of July 1st. I want to thank Sister
Jeanette for 40 years of service and Mary Ann for 30 years of service to OLL. Combined, they
have over 70 years of service at OLL! Both Sister and Mary Ann will be helping out here at
OLL when needed, but I do want to give them a “big thank you” from me and from the parish.
I think of the scripture passage from Matthew 16: “Well done good and faithful servants.” You
have touched many lives and have made OLL a much better parish.
Happy belated Father’s day to all you Dad’s out there. You are an important part of our
parish!
May I say for one last time, at least for this season: Way to go, Warriors!
Have a great summer week!
Father Brian

Mateo 16: "siervos buenos y fieles Bien hecho."
Padre Brian
