BCWARN - the BC Wireless Amateur Radio Network
Grew out of discussions amongst the Coquitlam, Burnaby and
New Westminster Amateur Radio Clubs…
How to provide a resilient and dependable, non-profit and amateur radio
driven communications capability in the event of a major disaster?
BCWARN initially conceived as high speed IP backbone to provide EOC’s
and fix/portable users with telnet access to Winlink
As more sites came online service grew to include all the typical things one
does with a LAN:
File sharing, VOIP, video, APRS i-gates, D-STAR, and of course internet access…
Future Uses: Radio-over-IP (maybe used first in Island Trunk System)
VOIP????
The first BCWARN test link was 75km. Proving out the path to Victoria (PEP)
Temporary equipment setup on Salt Spring Island
It worked!

(in prep for freshet flooding)
(in support of high speed access
for Sun Run command)
BCWARN is a collection of non-profit amateur radio groups that are working together to build and
operate communications links which can help enhance public safety when used at the municipal
and regional level by our served agencies . Shown above, the TELUS Telephone Pioneers
Amateur Radio club is one of our most valuable team members, with access to
hardened mountaintop sites that help span the distance between communities.
