First and foremost, let me start by saying that LACCEA did not endorse this flyer. Even though some of our Board of Directors are running for union positions, LACCEA does not get involved in any union’s politics. We Lorenzo Sandoval have no interest in “Taking The reason I am even President, LACCEA dwelling on this, is because Back” anything from this recently a flyer was circu- union. It is sad that certain members of the union resorted to putting out this deceptive racial campaign propaganda. But I can assure you it was not LACCEA. Let me say this again for the record, we believe in the principles of what a union stands for, something others have forgotten. I hope these lost souls find their way as they appear lost in what is truly right. Every day we grow stronger and wiser and any interest in a faltering union would only hold us back. Si se puede! Marcelino Sandoval Detention Services Officer Probation Department Marcelino Sandoval has been a proud member of the Los Angeles County Chicano Employees Association (LACCEA) for 16 years. Marcelino was first elected to LACCEA's Board of Directors in 2002 and has now served 9 years on our Board of Directors. The picture above shows two of our Board of Directors, Norman Tisdale (left) and Marcelino Sandoval (right) who helped raise over 400 toys to give to Children in need during the holiday season. Marcelino joined the organization so he could be a part of LACCEA’s efforts to become a true leader in Latino affirmative action advocacy in Los Angeles County, fighting for equal employment opportunities, with all being treated fairly, with respect and having an opportunity to have representation for its members in areas involving county Career: In 1994, his brother Lorenzo encouraged him to apply with the Los Angeles County Probation Department. Marcelino started his career with the County at Camp Challenger and went on to Barry J Nordoff Juvenile Hall in Sylmar and is now at Central in Los Angeles. Along with being involved with LACCEA, he has also taken an active role in the union. During his 17 years with the County Mr. Marcelino Sandoval has been actively involved with Local 685 as Vice President for 6 years and was a special representative for the union. His ability to work well with others and the willingness to fight for their rights gave him the opportunity to represent numerous fellow employees. Community outreach: Marcelino also gives his time to volunteer in the communities we serve. Some of his efforts have been to assist in food and toy drives for underprivileged families as well as take clothing and food to an orphanage in Mexico. His involvement with LACCEA has been recognized by assemblyman Rudy Bermudez and Fabian Nunez Speaker of the California Assembly just to name a few of his commendations. Early Life and Education: Marcelino Sandoval was born in Artesia, California where he lived with his parents and 3 brothers. His family moved to Norwalk where he attended Nottingham Elementary School and graduated from Servite High School. During his high school years he participated in football and baseball. He is currently enrolled at the University of Phoenix where he is majoring in Criminal Justice. Hobbies: Marcelino being a true entrepreneur has developed a business breeding and selling birds to vendors and pet stores. His efforts to build his business has to be commended since to achieve his goal he needs to take a newly hatched bird and hand feed it until it is able to feed itself. We should call him the real “Bird Man”. When he finds spare time he enjoys watching football and baseball and is a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys, LA Dodgers and UCLA. But he stated that the best times are spent with his family. He loves spending time with his son Christopher and he is proud to announce his new addition to his family, his beautiful daughter Violet who was born this year. The Los Angeles County Chicano Employees Association is kicking off its Annual Holiday Toy and Gift Drive for children in need. We want YOU to help us put a smile on the faces of children with our LACCEA Holiday Toy Drive. Now underway, the effort continues a long tradition of reaching above and beyond our own families and friends and into the lives of children who are in need and deserving of a happy holiday season. This year we have chosen Foundation for Greater Opportunities in Learning, Breakfast with Santa to be the recipient of our Holiday Toy Drive. This private event provides gifts to between 175-200 children who are in foster and group homes. These children are not with their own families during this holiday season. Some of the children are victims of abuse and neglect, yet some are simply displaced from their families because of poverty, economic deprivation and lack of education. There are over 25,000 children in foster care in Los Angeles County alone. The latest data shows that 53% of these children are of Latino Heritage. LACCEA is an organization that advocates on behalf of the Latino Community. We are advocating on behalf of all children now. We believe that every child should have a joyous holiday season full of promise. We need your help in making the holidays brighter for these deserving children. Thank you, Debrina D.
