Message from the Founders
“For the poor shall never cease out of
the land: therefore I command thee,
saying, Thou shalt open thine hand
wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and
to thy needy, in thy land”.
Deuteronomy 15:11
It is for us a special privilege to
extend our hands to you with
more gratitude than words could
express. We are amazed for all the
miracles that our Lord blesses ANF
with, through the support of each
one of you that make yourselves
present with your contributions to
dignify the lives of the most needy
in Nicaragua.
This year we have seen how your
contributions have changed lives,
have brought new opportunities
and hope.
With your collaboration, we have
brought food to thousands of
students, elderly people and
malnourished children.
Thanks to you, we have improved
medical services in remote areas
by providing medications and
medical equipment.
We trust that will carry on our
joint effort, bringing resources to
continue changing the lives of so
many people.
Through your donations, over
17,000 families have been able
to get dignified and safe homes,
with access to drinking water and
latrines.
You are the ones that make the
difference in the lives of thousands
of Nicaraguans through the work
of ANF. This is your organization,
you are ANF.
During 2014 smallholder farmers
were granted the opportunity to
improve their families income with
ANF´s sustainable development
programs in agriculture, poultry,
beekeeping and honey production
among others.
With our deepest gratitude,
Once again, we wish to express
our eternal gratitude not just for
your generous financial
contributions, but also for the time
that you dedicate to empower ANF
to be able to continue with the
beautiful mission that our Lord has
asked us to help the most needy.
We honor the great love God
has for us when we see
the opportunities and the
empowerment that each of ANF’s
programs bring to the communities
we serve.

ANF SUPPORTS EDUCATION AND HUMAN DEVELOPMENT
“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.”
Benjamin Franklin
In order to study, Bryan leaves his
home, walks on a 3 meters wide
and 20 meters long path, and then
through “El Mayoreo”
market, crossing muddy alleys,
street dogs, and trash.
The young Bryan Baltodano lives
in a world surrounded by garbage,
muddy alleys, and street vendors.
Bryan and his little brother Angel,
play around piles of paper, coal,
empty bottles and firewood;
products their parents sell in
“El Mayoreo” market.
While preparing the stove to make
tortillas, Margarita Hernández, the
boys’ mother tells us: “We chose
to stay here at the market so that
our children can study and we can
work in the market stall.”
Bryan is one of the thousands of
children that benefit from ANF’s
projects. At 6 years of age, he will
move onto second grade at
Casa del Sol pre-school.
The pre-school Casa del Sol, a
center sponsored by ANF, was
founded as a response to the large
number of families that are living in
the market without enough income
to send their children to study in
other centers.
ANF’s mission in the education
sector is to eliminate this barrier
by providing school materials,
textbooks, and academic furniture
to the centers. In addition, ANF
contributes food so that children
can receive at least one nutritious
meal per day.
Margarita is grateful with donors
and benefactors because her
children now have the chance to
succeed. Her dream is that her
children succeed because she
could not finish third grade.
Thanks to the support of our
partners and donors, ANF
contributes to the elimination of
indirect education costs that
prevent many parents from
sending their children to school.
Indicators
- Contributed to keeping school retention and attendance rates higher than 90%.
- Distributed 36 containers of school supplies valued at $4.1 million.
- Provided school supplies to more than 75,000 students in 583 schools.
- Distributed more than 8,000 pieces of school furniture to 12,000 students in 131 schools.
- Developed school campaign “I take Care of My Green Planet”, in 25 schools involving 7,258 students.
This campaign included topics on environmental education, keeping centers clean, promoting values and
action.
- In coordination with the Sustainable Development Program, built 13 classrooms.
“My dream is that my children
succeed because I could not
finish third grade.”

ANF CONTRIBUTES TO NUTRITION AND NOURISHMENT
“The right to nutrition can be guaranteed only if we care about the actual subject, that is,
the person who suffers the effects of hunger and malnutrition: the true subject!”
Pope Francis
Alejandro lives with his grandmother,
his mom, and a little sister, whom is
three years old. His mom, Yolanda,
works in the nearby areas ironing
clothes and patting tortillas.
The young Alejandro, with five
years of age, enrolled in school
for the first time this year.
Alejandro lives in a shanty town
called Laureles Sur which is
located to the east of
Managua city.
The inhabitants of Laureles Sur
earn a living through diverse
activities in the informal
economic sector, working as
bricklayers, drivers, street
vendors, free trade zone laborers,
etc. Their incomes are too low to
cover the food, education, health,
and clothing expenses of all family
members.
Doña Santos Angélica, Alejandro’s
grandmother comments: “ We are
alone in this house, we live only
with the children, we have limited
resources and my daughter works
until late at night from Monday
to Saturday, she can only spend
Sundays with us, she earns 150
córdobas a day, sometimes it’s
enough to buy food, sometimes
it’s not.”
Alejandro got enrolled in the
Caritas Alegres Education Center,
a center supported by ANF and its
donors, through the provision of
food, furniture, school materials,
clothes and shoes for the students.
Alejandro’s teacher commented
that Alejandro arrived “with
hunger, low weight and little
interest in school”.
At Caritas Alegres Center,
Alejandro has received warm
and nutritious food every day.
This nourishment has helped
Alejandro recover from his
malnourished state and his
professors have noted significant
advances in his studies; “In just
few months Alejandro has
changed, now he pays attention in
class, takes notes, and completes
the assignments” expressed his
enthusiastic teacher.
Alejandro is happy because ever
since he began pre-school, he is
assured at least one nutritious
meal a day.
This young boy, as well as his
family, are thankful for the help
brought to him by ANF donors.
Thanks to the support of our
donors and partners, Alejandro
plays, runs, and smiles!
Indicators
- Distributed 136 containers of food, valued at $6.5 million, to feed 96,500 people daily in schools,
nutritional recovery centers, children and elderly homes and rehabilitation centers.
- Supported the improvement and nutritional status of 500 children with weight deficit, implementing a
record-keeping system to follow-up their weight and height in 4 nutritional centers (Matagalpa, Leon,
Managua, Chinandega).
- Provided 25,000 milk portions and supplements and 13,000 portions of cereal to nutritional centers.

ANF PROVIDES ESSENTIAL SUPPORT TO HEALTH
“He who has health, has hope; and he who has hope, has everything.”
Thomas Carlyle
Teenage pregnancy is a health
issue that contributes to
perpetuate poverty, exclusion and
the lack of opportunities. Related
to this, the children of teenage
moms, have major risks like:
dying during their first year of life;
being born underweight,
malnutrition and delay in their
development.
Silvia Valeria and Francisco,
are the clear example of this
situation. They were 17 and 16
respectively when she got
pregnant. They dropped out of
school and decided to live in the
house of Francisco´s mom in the
community of Chacraseca,
municipality of León. She doesn´t
work and he does it by seasons
during the farming harvests.
He receives essential attention
and his mother is being taught
about the proper nourishment of
her baby. Silvia conveys, “We feel
blessed by being part of the
program. Over here, we get the
milk for free and each Saturday
they prepare activities for us.
When their baby was born, Enrique
Francisco, weighted 4 ½ pounds
and before the three months he
got sick with pneumonia. Under
this condition, he was taken to the
children´s clinic San Vicente de
Paul. A center which is supported
integrally by ANF with medicine,
medical supplies, foods, milks,
cereals and vitamins for the caring
of the children with malnutrition.
They give us toys and food.
Enrique Francisco is already
starting to show changes and
he looks better.”
At the center, the child was
admitted in the Nutrition
Program where his weight and size
are being monitored weekly.
Sister Jessenia Margarita Pérez,
the Administrative Director of
the center says: “We have been
partnering with ANF since 18 years
ago. The donations that we receive
have allowed us to help the
vulnerable population of León,
and assist them in their
economical and health issues.”
Indicators
- ANF distributed the contents of 78 ocean containers with medicines, periodic replacement material, and other medical
equipment valued at US$57.7 million dollars.
- 130 health centers benefited by ANF, including 87 primary care centers, 11 infirmaries in nursing and children homes,
27 hospitals, 3 specialized centers and 13 delegations of MINSA (Ministry of Health). These centers provided 259,750
consultations in 2014.
- Provided 66,500 doses of deworming pills for boys and girls at 759 elementary schools
- ANF helped improve the mobility and quality of life of more than 1,000 people with disabilities through the donation of
608 wheelchairs and 562 auxiliary mobility equipment.
- Provided training to the personnel at dispensaries supported by ANF, to properly handle and store medicines.
Included manual, training, and follow up.
- Supported the improvement and nutritional status of 500 children with weight deficit, implementing a record-keeping
system to follow-up their weight and height in 4 nutritional centers (Matagalpa, Leon, Managua, Chinandega).
- Provided 25,000 milk portions and supplements and 13,000 portions of cereal to nutritional centers.

ANF DRIVES SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
“Small opportunities are often the beginning of great enterprises.”
Demosthenes
nutrition of honeybees, the
breeding of queen bees. She also
gained access to infrastructure
and an exposition area in Las
Lomas Center, where she sells
her product.
Massiel Carolina Ramos García
from La Playa community, a
municipality of San Lucas in the
department of Madriz, had
difficulty finding a stable job. She
worked temporarily on a feeding
center where she earned C$1,000
(less than US$40) per month.
“We have improved the techniques
in our bee hives, emphasizing the
hygiene processes we follow to
ensure quality honey. This has
given us a great reputation in the
markets. Now we have the
opportunity to access different
markets, thus allowing us to obtain
higher profits,” outlines Massiel.
Massiel is one of the beneficiaries
of an apiculture project supported
by ANF and its donors.
With the technical training that
Massiel and her peers have
received, they have been
capable of raising their incomes.
By increasing their honey
production, they have been
able to commercialize derivative
products, such as polen, propolen
and wax. These products have
high nutritional and medicinal value
and local consumers accept them
easily.
Massiel received training in the
management and production of
beehives, the sanitation and
Massiel and her peers also raise
queen bees, which they later sell to
other producers in the region.
Facing this difficult situation,
Massiel considered moving to
another country in order to find
more opportunities for a better life.
“I have been able to sustain my
home by selling honey and my
community sees me as an
example. Now, the youth is a lot
more interested in apiculture. I am
very satisfied with the project, I
feel very well trained and capable
of managing my bee hives and
with solid experience to share my
knowledge with others” expressed
Massiel.
Massiels plans to continue
adding beehives and learning
about apiculture, and possibly
gaining access to
international markets. She hopes
that our benefactors continue
supporting her work so that we
can “reach the goal of exporting
our honey.”
“Once again, we are truly thankful
for this opportunity” – reiterates
Massiel.
Indicators
In 2014, 4,644 families benefited directly through programs and projects of Economic Development, including:
-
130 families received fruit and ornamental plants
106 families received chicken coops with hens and rooster
30 families built pens and received pelibueys for small animal husbandry
30 beekeepers received training, equipment and infrastructure for honey production
Within the program of Economic Development, ANF, in 2014, supported the planting of:
- 527 hectares of beans under the program of certified bean seed, registered seed and grain for consumption
- 6 additional hectares of papaya and guava
“My community sees me as
an example. Now, the youth
is a lot more interested in
apiculture.”

ANF PROMOTES COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
“The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have
much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.”
Franklin Roosevelt
ten family members that used to
live in a more isolated zone and
under worst living conditions.
These relatives preferred to
abandon their houses and
requested Douglas to allow them
to live with them. Therefore, the
inhabitants of the house increased
from two to twelve.
Tuma – La Dalia, is a cold and
rainy region in the Northern side
of Nicaragua. The community
Siempre Viva, is located in here
and is where Douglas Mendoza
and his wife Vilma obtained a
piece of land through the city hall.
Collecting old boards, branches
and sheets of zinc they were able
to build their humble house 3x5
meters. Inside the house there
wasn´t any separation between
the two areas: the kitchen and the
housing.
The roof was built with black
plastic; but, it wasn´t enough to
handle the winter. The house used
to be flooded and the floor being
of dirt would become into a mud.
This critical situation was not as
deplorable as the situation of the
Douglas tell us that they all used to

hammocks one on top of the
other; others used to sleep on
boards and some others would
share the dirt floor with the
chickens.
a furnished home of 48 square
meters: with three living areas and
a front porch.
Also, ANF supports them with the
access to drinking water and an
ecological latrine. With the purpose
so that the family can become
self- sufficient, ANF supports them
with the planting of fruit trees, the
elaboration of chicken coops with
its chickens and the training on
handling poultry.
The family is happy with this
opportunity that ANF provides
for them with the support of its
collaborators and donors.
The food is scarce and they only
eat twice a day, basically tortilla,
banana and yucca root.
The water and hygiene are also
issues Vilma mentions, “in order
to bring water we have to walk to
a nearby river and hike through a
mountain to return home.”
Things complicated even more
when one of the girls named
Araceli whom is ten years old
began to have problems with
her legs.
This family is being supported by
ANF. They are beneficiaries with

The voluntary personnel and the

warehouses and retrieve
necessary medications.
ANF – AN NGO OF ALL AND FOR ALL
ANF utilizes only 2% of all
proceeds received on
administrative costs and
marketing. The remaining 98% of
donations go directly to aid those
in need.
This is made possible by the joined
effort of donors, executors, and
beneficiaries—all united under
the common platform that is ANF.
This is also made possible by the
collaboration of government
officials, foundations, private
parties, religious and
non-religious organizations,
hospitals and dispensaries,
universities and schools, small
farmers, and a diverse group of
professionals who share ANF’s
mission.
The parents who cook meals
and Manna Pack donated by our
partners.
The private sector that promotes
education, health, and nutrition
campaigns. The principals,
teachers, and students who make
it possible for these programs to
have an impact.
The government ministries and
institutions and non-profit
organizations that strengthen,
with the help of ANF, the education
provided at schools in their
communities.
They are a fundamental part of our
mission:
The young woman, mother of four,
who has the opportunity to obtain
a home for the first time and gets
involved in the effort of building her
own house; preparing the land and
carrying material.
The employees who donate part
of their salaries through their
employer’s Social Responsibility
programs; money that builds
laboratories and classrooms, that
repairs bathrooms, and that brings
clean water to various centers.
The mothers who travel 5
kilometers with their daughters to
fetch water. Those same mothers
who will later take a pick to
dig a water trench for their
community - thanks to an
anonymous donation.
Rural teachers and leaders from
distant municipalities who support
the school lunch programs.
The bean farmer that plants
certified organic bean seed who
multiplied his income, and who
24
The medical personnel of rural
dispensaries, the doctors and
hospital administrators.
The personnel from nutritional
centers, homes for the elderly,
orphanages, and homes for those
with various disabilities.
The donors of wheelchairs and
aid for the impaired.
They are all our partners in our
mission.
Our global donors, who support
with great and small quantities.
ANF colleagues and directors who
place God before all and work
ardently with solidarity, generosity,
honesty, trustworthiness,
responsibility, and respect.
We are all ANF, and we all make
our mission into a reality with the
2% of donated funds.
