Halloween
Halloween is celebrated
every year on 31st
October. This day is „All
Hallows Eve“ in the
Catholic calendar and
„Halloween“ is a derivation of this name. The origins of
Halloween go back to the 5th century BC in Celtic
Ireland, when summer officially ended on 31st October.
On that day, spirits of the dead were believed to come
back to earth, looking for living bodies to possess for the
following year. People were afraid of these spirits, so
they dressed up in scary
costumes to frighten
them away. Over time,
people stopped believing
in evil spirits but kept up
the Halloween rituals.
Halloween was brought
to America by Irish
immigrants. Today, Halloween is more extensively
celebrated in the USA than in Britain. Before Halloween
people buy pumpkins. They cut faces, put candles inside
and so the pumpkin becomes a ghost.

Halloween party at school
We celebrated Halloween at HANNAH School on 1st
November. Most of the students came in costumes.
There was a competition for the best mask.
Competitors
We met at 9 o’clock at school where a spooky
atmosphere was – lit up candles and spooky music were
everywhere. There were pumpkins with lit up faces.
Teachers looked like witches because they had big noses
and big hats.

Three witches
The students of all three classes met in the school hall
and the teachers started the Halloween competition. In
empty classes there were sheets of paper with numbers
and students had to go to the sheets. On the sheets
there were some tasks, for example: every team had to
write a sentence and other teams had to write other
sentences and a story originated in the end or we had to
complete missing words or crosswords.
When we finished the tasks, we had a break. And
after the break the teachers said the results of the
Halloween competition. And who won it? The
competition was won by the team „Skeletons“. They

won a bag with sweets. Congratulations ! And we look
forward to a Christmas party.

Interview with Katka Černá
1) How did the idea to start a magazine originate?
I wanted the students to do something more creative
than just the usual school stuff.
2) How long have you been teaching at this school?
This is my fourth school year here.
3) How did you get this job?
I had a regular job interview with the school director.
4) What do you like and dislike about this work?
I find my work interesting because every day is little bit
different. I enjoy working with people, I love English and
my job is the perfect combination of these two things.
But like anybody else I have my days when I would just
like to be on my own and not communicate at all :)
5) Do you have any advice for students how to improve
their English besides learning it at school?
Definitely. A school should just give students the
confidence to use the language in the real life. I would
suggest making use of any opportunity, no matter if it is
chatting with native speakers in the pub, watching a film
in English, listening to music or reading an English book,
just anything that you enjoy doing in your free time. And
if you have a chance to travel, go for it!

The world of movies
Eat Pray Love - Liz Gilbert (Roberts) had
everything a modern woman is
supposed to dream of having - a
husband, a house, a successful
career - yet like so many others,
she found herself lost, confused,
and searching for what she really
wanted in life. Newly divorced
and at a crossroads, Gilbert steps
out of her comfort zone, risking
everything to change her life,
embarking on a journey around the world that becomes
a quest for self-discovery. In her travels, she discovers
the true pleasure of nourishment by eating in Italy; the
power of prayer in India, and, finally and unexpectedly,
the inner peace and balance of true love in Bali.
Inception- Dom Cobb is a skilled
thief, the absolute best in the
dangerous art of extraction,
stealing valuable secrets from
deep within the subconscious
during the dream state, when the
mind is at its most vulnerable.
Cobb's rare ability has made him a
coveted player in this treacherous new world of
corporate espionage, but it has also made him an
international fugitive and cost him everything he has
ever loved. Now Cobb is being offered a chance at
- 12 -

redemption. One last job could
give him his life back but only if
he
can
accomplish
the
impossible-inception. Instead of
the perfect heist, Cobb and his
team of specialists have to pull
off the reverse: their task is not
to steal an idea but to plant
one. If they succeed, it could be
the perfect crime.
Toy Story 3 - Woody, Buzz and the whole gang are
back. As their owner Andy
prepares to depart for college,
his loyal toys find themselves in
day-care where untamed tots
with their sticky little fingers do
not play nice. So, it's all for one
and one for all as they join
Barbie's counterpart Ken, a
thespian hedgehog named Mr.
Pricklepants and a pink,
strawberry-scented teddy bear
called Lots-o'-Huggin' Bear to plan their great escape.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers sue young star
Diana Vickers
The American band Red Hot Chilli Peppers plans to
sue singer Diana Vickers. The reason is a fact that part of
the chorus of her new song My Wicked Heart sounds too
similar to RHCP's chorus from the hit song Under The
Bridge from 1991. Diana, who became famous in a
competition X-Factor, admitted that she had been
listening to RHCP intensively and after recording her
song she realized that My
Wicked Heart is similar to
Under The Bridge, but she
didn't
want
to
change
anything. Daily news The Sun
says that RHCP will sue with
Vickers, because she didn't
have and doesn't have any
permission to sample their
song.

November horoscope 2010
(Dec. 22- Jan. 20)
Your words will be taken out of the
context if you avoid your colleagues or
employers. You will be mixed in a kind
of triangle. You should consider
healthy food.
(Jan. 21 -Feb. 19)
Your instincts for finances improve this
month, and you might enjoy a pay or
income increase. Your social life is very
busy throughout November. Teamwork
is emphasized, although there can be some strife with
friends. Romantic opportunities might present
themselves through your friends or group associations.
(Feb. 20-Mar. 20)
Supervise your tendency to live for the
day. Be careful about making projects,
which will bring you to exotic
destinations and look for ways how to
improve your dietary habits and daily life. Be honest in
your communication.
- 16 -
Hamster
(Mar. 21- Apr. 20)
Do not be too fast to give your opinion.
Listen to the others carefully. The
possibilities of voyages will be favourable
in
terms
of
connections
and
moneymaking. Do not let the others limit you to say how
you feel on the family questions.
(Apr. 21- May 21)
Perhaps it is time to look for the ways how
to improve your health. Professional
secrecy can only lead to circumstances
devastators. Speak with your partner
about holidays and about your relationship.
(May 22-June 21)
You will be emotional on the questions of
money. You should take part in activities
which can be done by both young and old.
You can receive recognition for the work
which you made.
- 17 -
Hamster
(June 21 – July 22)
Your love life will be intense and
passionate this month, and you may
become obsessed with someone
whether you're single or in a
relationship. At this point, the
relationship will be mainly sexual in nature, but it may
become more serious later.
(July 23 – Aug. 22)
Problems will arise in your family and
with your parents in particular, due to
buried secrets and emotions. You hate
it when others are evasive or
withdrawn, and this time may be
difficult for you. A New Moon in Scorpio will help you
develop better coping skills and more sensitivity, though.
(Aug. 23- Sep. 22)
Learning new skills, mastering
subjects, and expressing your
thoughts will be important this
month. You may have to write them
down to explore them fully. This is a
good time to do in-depth research due to an emphasis
on Scorpio during the first half of the month.
- 18 -
Hamster
(Sep. 23 – Oct. 22)
Do some in-depth work on your
finances this month and get to the
bottom of issues. This may take some
effort and research, but it will pay off in
the end and you will feel better about
your situation.
(Oct. 23 – Nov. 21)
Expect to be even more withdrawn and
sensitive this month. At the same time,
you will feel
powerful
and
confident
because of the Sun, Mercury, and
Venus moving through your sign.
(Nov. 22 – Dec. 21)
Your inner life will be more important
this month as you go within to look for
answers and understanding. You will
examine issues from the past in depth,
and you may seek counselling so you
can move forward.
