Chairman, Board of Governors:
Dear JCC Members and Friends,
As you turn the pages of this magazine, we hope you will be impressed by our
exciting and diverse array of programs and services, each designed with the JCC
mission in mind. The mission of the JCC includes creating an environment
that “provides opportunities for meaningful cultural enrichment, physical well
being and social, educational and recreational experiences for individuals and
families.” To enhance our ability to do this, we are very pleased to tell you that
we have expanded our relationship with Jewish Family Service of Rochester.
Our two organizations came together last year to discuss how we may better
serve our community through further collaboration. We agreed that coordinated
programs and services could enhance the lives of those in our community, from
birth through the senior years. The result of these conversations is the opening
of The Resource Place at the JCC, made possible by a generous grant from the
Max and Marian Farash Charitable Foundation.
Through The Resource Place, we will dedicate resources to provide information,
consultation, and opportunities for intergenerational experiences, and a wide
range of individualized and integrated support services. We intend to create new
pathways to wellness, resilience, family success, and self-determination.
The Resource Place will be located in the soon-to-be refurbished Senior Adult
Lounge. Please take a moment to read the full description of The Resource
Place on page 5.
The JCC strives to build a healthy community in a variety of ways — with
dedicated members, generous partners, unbelievable volunteers, passionate
community leaders, and a talented and dedicated staff. Thanks to all of you for
joining us on this journey.

BOB BONN (September)
Bob is known as the “coffee guy.” When Geulah closed for the month
of August, Bob quickly arranged to provide services that exceeded
those normally offered by the Coffee Shop. He extended hours on
Fridays, offered a larger variety of food choices, and added new and
exciting snack options for kids and adults alike. This award recognizes
Bob’s attentiveness and exceptional customer service
SHARA CHISHOLM (October)
Shara developed a new system at the Front Desk to make scheduling the Fit
Plan and massage appointments easier and much more effective.
Now, using a scheduling website, trainers, therapists, and Front Desk staff can
see instantly when an appointment has been made. Thanks, Shara, for taking
the time to find a great website and showing everyone how to
use it!

AT CAMP SENECA LAKE

There are so many reasons that
families send their children to CSL —
great sports, a beautiful waterfront,
the high ropes course, a wonderful
Jewish camping experience … the
list goes on and on. One reason
that seldom gets mentioned,
however, is a very important “fringe
benefit” for many of our camp families —
camping with cousins!
It is very difficult to find a camper who does not have
at least one relative attending CSL while they are
at camp. Distance between family members often
makes it a significant challenge for cousins to get
together for more than a weekend over the course
of the year, but come July and August, CSL is
Cousin Heaven!
Many parents choose to use camp to bring
cousins together. Last summer, three new eightyear-old campers came from various geographic
areas, giving each of them a chance to spend
weeks with their Reitkopp cousins, even living
together in the same cabin. The Weinstein
family and their cousins would more than fill a
cabin if grouping was done by relatives rather
than gender and age! Take a look at some of
the extended family groups from 2012 pictured
on this page.
Of course, look even closer
and you will find that most of
the parents of these “cousin
clusters” also attended CSL. It
is through our alumni that the
greatest advantage is taken
to bring their families closer
together. We’re looking forward

It is a testament to the passion and creativity of our
Members and those of our community that ensures our
programs and facilities are here for future generations.
Bunny and Mort Skirboll’s commitment to the JCC
runs deep. They demonstrate through their annual and
major giving to the JCC their belief that it is an asset of
tremendous value to the community. They have been
and continue to be personally committed to ensuring
that the JCC continues to thrive as the central gathering
place of our local Jewish community.
For many of our donors, establishing an endowment is
the perfect way to express support and commitment to
the JCC. Bunny and Mort Skirboll feel so strongly that all
children should have access to Camp Seneca Lake (CSL)
that they’ve recently established the Skirboll Family
Scholarship Fund for CSL in order to ensure that ALL
children can be nourished and enriched by a meaningful
CSL experience. Furthermore, the scholarship fund
allows Bunny and Mort to involve their grandchildren in
their philanthropic decision making.
“We specifically chose Camp Seneca Lake because
it is a place that
is so important to
our family,” Bunny
says. “Our children
attended, met, and
formed their lifelong
friendships at CSL.
Our grandchildren
continue to strengthen
their Jewish identity
there, and they
were the ones who
suggested that older
campers who have
financial need should
be able to attend the Mort and Bunny Skirboll with two
Senior Camper year of out of their three granddaughters,

make this possible.”
The JCC’s Center Funds are the reserve funds for
the JCC. The Funds’ purpose is to provide income in
perpetuity for the programs, services, and facilities that
are so important to so many. The seeds for the JCC’s
Center Funds were planted a generation ago; now, by
contributing to and creating new Funds, you give a gift
to the community over and over again.

establishing a living legacy, please call Mary Ann
