The 19th Student Council of Hotung Secondary
School for the current school year was formally
inaugurated at the school assembly on Friday 12th
November, 2010.
In a speech delivered to the senior form
schoolmates and teachers, Chan Yuk-ying from 6AC,
President of the 19th Student Council ‘Minerva’,
pledged that in the coming months, she and the other
council members would make every effort to enable all Hotung girls and
boys to realize their talents, to nurture a warmer, closer relationship
between students and teachers, to arrange a wide range of highly
enjoyable activities for all to enjoy, and to better the welfare of their
fellow schoolmates.
The newly-elected President also explained the
meaning of the name chosen for their team and what
they think it signifies. Minerva was the Roman goddess of
poetry, medicine, wisdom, commerce, weaving, crafts
and magic, as well as the inventor of music. To the new
SU officials, the word stands for several
desirable qualities that they are
determined to foster among themselves and
translate into action – M for Magnanimous, I
for Idealistic, N for Nimble, E for Enthusiastic,
R for Respectful, V for Veritable and A for
Agile.
Principal Ms Wong Yin-ling presents each
official with an official lapel pin.
The new SU officials pledge to do their
very best to further the interests of
their fellow schoolmates.
Ms Wong expresses her
full confidence in the
‘Minerva’ team.
