When placing students for the next school year, the school considers many factors
including the student’s academic, social, and behavioural needs. We look at the needs
of the individual student and the student body as a whole. While we do strive to take
parents’ requests for their child into consideration, determining which class your child
should be in is a complex task and the school will make the final decision about
student placement for next year.

February’s theme
for Character Education:
Trustworthiness
In grade 7 and 8 the students follow a rotary
timetable whereby all students in the grade
will have different teachers for each subject,
including Mathematics and English. Since
every grade 7 and 8 student will have the
same teachers, there is no need to make a
request for class placement.
New for September 2015
We are pleased to offer some new programs
for September 2015. TCMPS is an applicant
for the International Baccalaureate World
School Middle Years Program for students in
grade 7 to 9. Mr. Parker has extensive
experience with IB. Parents who are looking
for more information are encouraged to
speak to Mr. Parker in the High School
Office.
Also, we will be partnering with Kid’s Kitchen to provide an optional hot lunch
program for the students at the Main Campus. Kids’ Kitchen delivers hot, nourishing
meals with options for food allergies and dietary restrictions. Parents can visit the
Kid’s Kitchen Web site www.kidskitchen.ca for sample menus and program highlights.
If you would like more information about these new programs or if you have any
questions about registration, please speak to a Vice-Principal who will be happy to
answer your questions.

Family Day
Monday, February 16 is Family Day, a statutory holiday. All campuses of Town Centre Montessori Private Schools will
be closed. Classes will resume at their regularly scheduled hours on Tuesday, February 17. Happy Family Day to all
our TCMPS families!
Reminder About March Break
This year, March Break will be from March 16 through to March 20. School will be closed for Pre-school, Elementary
and High School Divisions. School will resume on Monday, March 23. Parents are asked to inform the Main Office in
writing if their child will be absent from school due to an extended family vacation. We would like to wish everyone a
happy March Break!
Income Tax Receipts for 2014
At the end of February, all parents will automatically receive a receipt for tuition fees paid for 2014. As well, some
parents may also receive a receipt for the Children’s Fitness Tax Credit, the Children’s Arts Tax Credit, and the
Ontario Children’s Activity Tax Credit, if their child participated in an eligible program during 2014. All tax receipts
will be distributed to the students to take home; parents do not have to apply for the receipts. Receipts will not be
available prior to the end of February.
After School Courses: Term 3
Participating in our After School Courses is a wonderful way for students to have fun and
further enjoy their school experience. Parents are reminded that the last day of regularly
scheduled After School Courses for Term 2 will be on Friday, March 6. The packages for
Term 3 of the After School Courses will be distributed on Tuesday, February 17. Parents

Valentine’s Day Activities
On Friday, February 13, the grade 2 to 8 classes will have Valentine’s Day parties starting at
12:00 p.m. The elementary students are asked to wear party clothes or red, white, or pink
clothing instead of their school uniform. Students are welcome to bring snacks to share for
this special occasion. Sign up sheets will be posted outside of each classroom. Please
provide an ingredient list with your contribution so we can check for allergies.
The High School has been busy rehearsing for their annual Talent Show which will take
place in the Main Gymnasium on the afternoon of Friday, February 13. As a special treat,
the grade 7 and 8 students have been invited to watch the performances.
Soccer Dome Intramurals
Each year in February, elementary students look forward to our Soccer Dome Intramurals.
Students will travel to the Mount Joy Soccer Dome to participate in soccer matches and
skills challenges. Students should dress in athletic clothing in the same colour as their
TCMPS House League team colour and wear running shoes.
Soccer Dome Intramurals will take place on February 25, 26, and 27. Parents will receive a
detailed trip memo shortly regarding the soccer dome and the dates for each grade. What a
great way to beat the February blahs with fun and lots of activity! Go Teams Go!
Team Photos, Grade 8 Grad Photos and Photo Retakes
On Wednesday, February 4, photographers will take photos of our elementary and high
school SSAF sports teams and high school clubs. Please ensure that all participating
students have their team uniform, gym uniform, and full school uniform at school this day.
Please note that we will not be able to take photo retakes for absent students.
On Tuesday, February 24, grade 8 students will have their graduation photographs taken.
Students will be provided with a set of proofs within a few weeks. Please note that students
are required to wear their full school uniform. Composite photographs will be available
closer to the grade 8 graduation date.
Also on Tuesday, February 24, we will be taking individual photos for any new students,
individuals who missed the previous photo day, or those students who would like to have
their photos retaken. Please confirm with your child’s teacher if your child will have a
photo retake.
Intramural Sports Day
On Tuesday, January 27, grade 6 to 8 students had an active Intramural Sports Day in our
Main Gymnasium, playing team sports while earning points for their House League teams.
Thank you to the Phys-Ed staff for a fun day, and thanks also goes to the students for their
fantastic display of sportsmanship!

Winterfest
The grade 1 to 5 students had a fun Winterfest
Carnival on Friday, January 24. With the help of
the grade 6 students who did a great job of
running the games stations, every one had a truly
memorable day! Even Bonhomme the Snowman
was there to help cheer on the students as they
played exciting games.
Winterfest was a wonderful week of activities. The
students drank delicious hot chocolate, built
snowy marshmallow sculptures, created a winter
mural, had an awesome buddy day, participated in
a super scavenger hunt, and wore civvies clothes
the entire week! Thank you to all the teachers
who helped put together a wonderful Winterfest!

TOWN CENTRE PRIVATE HIGH SCHOOL NEWS
January is exam month in the high school. Beginning with “Tutorial Day” on January
14, regular classes were not in session, though teachers and students met frequently
for extra study sessions. All sports, clubs and other extra curricular activities were
put on hold so students could focus their energy entirely on the most important
matter at hand: achieving to their highest potential on the finals.

Although this time of year can be a little stressful for students our experience has
been that this time of serious academic focus generally leads to students having a
positive experience with their examinations, and helps develop excellent study habits
which will later benefit our students when faced with the challenges of university.
On January 26, students started fresh with 4 new courses as they began Semester
Two. Of course, the extra curricular activities started up again; some of these
included our basketball and volleyball teams continuing their very successful seasons,
while our table tennis and curling teams prepared for upcoming tournaments. STRIVE
continued its fundraising and community service initiatives, and the members of
DECA prepared for their next business design challenge.
Finally, re-registration and course selection process for 2015-16 began in January and
is continuing. Any parents with questions about high school or who are interested in
registering for next year should feel free to contact Mr. Douglas Parker or Ms. Sarah
McDonald in the High School Office.
